Also emailing Elfie pictures to my nephew. He's 11. I cropped the lower part of this picture out before I sent it. Didn't want my SIL to get mad at me. I sewed Elf a mask so he wouldn't have to stay in the bubble all December. http://instagram.com/p/CIJTe63gcBG

Guys, I’m freaking out a bit. Tomorrow is December 1. I have zip, zilch, zero ready for DD. Not even the title page. I’m not a foundation page person but typically I will have the title, reason why and a family pic ready to go. I watch lots of walk throughs, jot down notes on ideas. Haven’t gone anything. Eyeball deep in home projects and November got away from me. I’m doing a 3x8 album though. It will be fine, totally fine. Right? You will be fine!! I haven't prepped anything, my desk has all the stuff on it and I just got some photos. I put some in pp and then stared at them. Yep... moving right along, too. Am I the only one who doesn't like Lacey Chabert? I know I'm a picky grinch when it comes to things, but she just annoys me. Last night was "Christmas Made to Order" and while we checked a ton of boxes, no Bingo! Tonight could be the night though... joblackford That snowflake is amazing!

Here we go, ladies! After posting "casual" daily prompts in 2018 and 2019, I'm switching things up for 2020 and focusing instead on transforming literary devices and elements of storytelling into practical documenting tips (every other day). I hope this renewed approach to December-documenting will leave you feeling both reinvigorated and confident in your knowledge on how to guide yourself and your life anecdotes through the holiday season. As we navigate the hardships of a pandemic December, my wish for you all is to walk away from this thread at the end of the year feeling as though this "smaller" Christmas season has given you the opportunity to slow down and learn more about the essence of storytelling: it is about the quality of how you portray the events, not the quantity or grandiose nature of the events you attended. Life is at its most beautiful and most touching within the cracks. DECEMBER 1ST - 2ND
Symbolism: Frame the beginning | Abstract concepts require tangible objects and representation to manifest themselves in a story. This is symbolism. Today, many of you will begin documenting your Christmastide and embark on a new adventure as you lay the first (symbolic!) bricks of the story of your December. What comes to mind for beginnings to you? A door opening? Light(s) being turned on? Perhaps the promise of a blank page? How would this translate to the world around you? Photo + story ideas: 1. Talk about the start of the holiday season and focus on the positive feelings that accompany beginnings in general: hope, looking forward, curiosity. If you feel like nothing much has happened on this day, don't hesitate to turn outwards for documenting purposes. 2020 is a very different year but after 9 months of uncertainty and fear, we have recently been given some light at the end of the tunnel with very reassuring news on the vaccine front. That is historical news worthy of being recorded, too. 2. Photograph something that symbolises the start of your December: your decorated front door, your brand new and still empty-ish December album laid out on your desk, the fresh layer of untouched snow in your garden, the pile of new Christmas jammies you bought for your family this year, your lit tree/garlands, nature, etc. What you're looking for is something that translates the concept of new chapters, a fresh beginning. December 1st is your open door to a month-long celebration and anticipation of Christmas and NYE. Video of the day:

I have never seen In Bruges, I really need to rectify that. Oh yes, definitely a rectification that needs to happen! If you like your humour dark, In Bruges is definitely one for the watch list. The biblical symbolism is off the charts, too. I highly recommend this analytical video after watching the movie. Such an underrated and still surprisingly unknown gem. Here's something for you - a version of poet Liz Berry's Christmas Eve, its beautiful Beautiful indeed! Thanks so much for sharing. A lovely and meaningful way to break the silence your contemplative and wise 9-year old brought up. DH and I will be alone for Christmas this year as neither of our sons can come home (nor should they). DH was struggling so I convinced him we could do journal your Christmas as a way to find joy. So this will be joint project What a wonderful project to tackle together, wallyagain! I wish you both many happy hours of reminiscing and discussing the Christmas memories of a (two) lifetime(s) together. Thank you for this!!! I prompty made myself a little house cut file and will try adding something like that to my DD this year!!! 'Tis the year for bringing extra focus on what makes your house your home during the holidays! Make ALL the cute house cut files... It is snowing here today for the first time and I put on my snazzy new “joy” sweatshirt I bought for myself so hopefully I can at least fake it ‘til I make it this season. Congratulations on getting your first snow as November ends! Couldn't have found a prettier or more appropriate "white carpet" to walk on as you head into December. Very poetic. But I started making pages already. I did Day 1 of the outside lights and Day 2 of getting the tree. Day 3 will be about the Christmas tree my mom made in the 1970s and gave to me a couple of years ago. Yay on getting a bit of a head start, blemon! Pretty pages for pretty memories, you've got this. I love your DD album sleepingbooty although it has me a little jealous that you have completed pages already. As usual, I am teetering on the edge of stressing out. I don't prepare my DD, other than make a title page and organize my supplies, but then when Dec 1st comes around, I stress that I am already behind. Aww, thank you. If it's any consolation, I started my Yuletide album before December so really, there's no need to feel any jealousy. Not doing a December Daily this year. Don't panic, don't fret, you are definitely not behind. It's only December 1st. You're right on time! Record your December days through photography and quick notes. You have all the time in the world to complete the actual album. Zen, @northrigg, zen. This is supposed to be fun and relaxing. You are exactly where you're supposed to be with your album, no worries. Right? We are not freaking out on December 1st, repeat after me, we are not freaking out on December 1st. This is a contemplative walk through the month, not a race to see who finishes first or who gets the most done. This is a happy project, a creative outlet, not a competition. Enjoy your crafty time, don't stress over your timeline. Soak up December! *hands a mug of steaming hot cocoa* It will not only be fine, it'll be great. I’ve literally made a small title page and barely prepped one page. I’ve been working 7 days a week since September. My free time has been limited. I still really want to do this project as it give me some sort of creative outlet. Kudos to you for working so hard these past few months. 7 days a week is rough. Really rough. I hope you can get a day off here and there soon so you can rest, recharge and have some fun. I'm so glad you're giving yourself a place to be creative and enjoy yourself despite your hectic schedule.

For day one I have advent calendars - my niece sent me pictures of her kids opening their first day. Then DD & I opened our first tea day of our advent calendar and we talked about how different things lije that were when your an adult as opposed to when your a kid.
My great niece wanted to open all of her doors today. She’s 2 and she’s learning. When your a child you want it all now and you don’t really get the waiting for 24/25 days. However my DD is looking forward to a little treat each morning. And to savor our tea journey together. When your an adult it’s that little surprise each day to look forward to that’s nice, especially for her this year being jobless, and being adrift and dealing with covid. With the sameness of everyday that one treat each morning that will be different is what she’s looking forward to. Advent calendar the slightly anti Groundhog Day experience.
( Gosh, if this years misfit holiday season ends up a Dec Daily I will lol )

@northrigg I'm so sorry about Stormy. I hope you can rally as a family and bring comfort to Stormy in his/her final hours. The short lifespan of pets is truly heartbreaking. They are everyday companions and family members. Much love to you all.

Hugs Thanks for the hugs. She's my favorite. We have 5 - she is the only grey & white one and is just a really smart, sweet, pig. A couple of years ago when another pig was dying, she would check in and nuzzle the dying one, whilst the rest stayed well clear. My boys are going to be really upset when they come home (it's their hybrid day in school).

I have been taking photos and making notes in my day one app, but nothing physical started yet. That's sort of how it works out for me, I can't do foundation pages. And this kinda quiet, cool, but busy December 1 has me feeling like any other day. I am still in the midst of decorating and there's just things to do. I am reminding myself that this is all good and just to document and enjoy it for what it is. I have some festive plans (as planned as you can get in 2020) ahead, which is mostly entertainment at home. @northrigg Sorry to hear about Stormy and about your window hutchfan Sorry for your loss, 53 is way too young. Not sure if any of you are followers of Susannah Conway on Instagram, but she always does December Reflections each year in which she gives a prompt a day. I've participated for last 4 years and actually had mini books printed out. It was a nice way to document December and reflecting back over the year in a brief way. There's so much good inspiration and ideas, I have trouble focusing on what I want to actually do...

Got Hulu with the Black Friday deal and just finished Happiest Season. I thought it was very good. It doesn't get as dark as Love Actually and has a few more slapstick moments (I think for the cameo appeal) but I think it might be something I watch almost every year.

I was just reading the day one prompts and people’s supply plans for Shimelle’s JYC and SYC and I read one comment that sparked an idea for me. I didn’t end up doing an album last year, but someone mentioned that they were just going to add pages to their 2019 album to compare what’s the same and what’s different. I might make mine a 2 year album/journal - not documenting every detail, but choosing with each prompt whether I want to talk about this year or last year or comparing them. That actually might help fill in the gaps in both years and also smooth out some of the big bummer elements (we had a family member die around Thanksgiving last year). I’m starting my documenting in my DayOne journal for now.

Last year I started a 3 year once a week photo + journalling album in a Heidi Swapp book (no idea what it's actually called, I picked the book up on clearance). It's working out really well with a year of normal, then 2020, then whatever the heck next year brings and I think in years to come it will be really interesting to look at how different life has been.

It was so nice to get up today and watch Shimelle's JYC video for Dec 1st. I'm hoping that translates into some motivation to at least do some journaling. Did anyone watch the first lesson in Share Your Christmas? I haven't singed up yet but I'm seriously considering it. hutchfan I'm sorry about your bestie. That's awful. 53 is way too young. @northrigg glad to hear the boys got to spend time with Stormy. Pets really should live longer.
