I have had such a hard time finding a good bra. It seems that every time I buy one, it fits fine at first but by the end of the day it is horrible. Either I look like I have four breasts because the cups are digging into me, the wires are poking, or the cups are bulging out and not laying flat.
What is the trick to finding a bra that fits well at home and not just in the dressing room? What are your favorite brands?

Get a good fitting by someone in a reputable store. I've found the fitters at Nordstrom to be very knowledgeable. I always put a sweater or top on over the bra when I'm trying it on to see what it's going to look like with clothes on. It's supposed to be snug around the band, but you shouldn't be busting out of the top. It sounds like you're getting bras that don't fit properly.
Most of my bras are Chantelle. I can tell you that I was seriously shocked by my real size after my first Nordstrom fitting. I was wearing a B cup and I was really a DD. I can also say that I look a thousand times better in the right size bra.

The main thing to do is get yourself professionally fitted. I swear, it makes all the difference in the world. We've all gone around wearing ill-fitting, uncomfortable bras instead of getting fitted with the proper size. Once you know what size you really should be wearing, you can try different brands, styles, etc. to see which ones feel best. I got fitted at Nordstrom several years ago and have since worn bras from Wacoal, Lane Bryant, QVC, and Bali. All with underwire and all comfortable. Just shop around til you find what you like... but do get fitted first.

I have a hard time finding bra's with NO wires. I hate underwired bra's. I have a rib bone that sticks out a little too much under one of my boobies so it makes it uncomfortable to wear those underwired bra's. Plus I don't want all that extra padding that they add in, I like being a B cup and yes I have been professionally fitted.

I have not found any comfortable bra since my S-ICD implant. Every bra band seems to go right across the Defibrilator and presses into my ribs and the pressure hurts.

I wish I could find the article I used to get a better fit. I thought I was a DD but ended up in a G! Much better fit.

Definitely get a professional fitting. Nordstrom is usually great for that.

I have used the video in the past that Krispin posted, and now I order my bras from herroom.com now that I know my size. I have been fitted before at a specialty lingerie store, so I wasn't too far off doing it myself based on the video posted.

I used to wear Wacoal bras because they fit the best. Now they don't fit well. Nothing fits well. Then the ones I wind up liking stretch out and are no good.
If you are done having kids what good are boobs for?
Finding a good bra is a sore spot for me and I have been fitted lots of times...and without much luck.

Bras used to drive me crazy until I discovered Wacoal-they fit perfectly. I didn't do the professional fitting- I knew as soon as I put it on. I wear the underwire that closes in the front-It holds up my 38C's!

I know he likes them. They are just a pain in the neck. A BIG pain in the neck. But you are right he likes them.
Just to clarify, I do NOT have a DH he is a DSO for the time being. The blog b!tch wanted me to clarify that I do not in fact have a husband. So true. I do not. He is a significant other at this point in time.
I hope I clarified this for you.

I can also say that I look a thousand times better in the right size bra. I totally agree - I was wearing a 38 C. I hated bras. I got fitted - I am a 32 DD. BIG difference and changed my life - my clothes fit well, the girls are actually hanging out where they should. And don't say "There is no way I could be a DD" - people have a preconceived notion of size based on look, not measurement. So many people say to me "There is no way you are a DD. I have to show them the tag to prove it And the larger you are, make sure it has at least three hooks in the bag - the two hook bras just don't give me enough support...

When I was young and developed I needed a bra with wire but refused to wear one. Now I love wire.
I had a boyfriend when I was about 30? and he used to call me after work every single day to make sure I had taken my bra off as soon as I walked in the door. His mother had died of breast cancer and he was obsessed with me not wearing a bra with wire a moment longer than necessary.

Bra fittings are so worth the awkwardness. But, if you can't, I remember reading some Bra fitting tips on Reddit. One of them was to take multiple measurements: your band (where the bra sits flat against your ribcage), the largest part around your breasts, then lean over 90 degrees and measure again. Take the average of those last two measurements. ie. Mine were: 33 band; 36 standing straight, 41 leaning over (I know, right??) for an average of 38 or 39. Subtract boob size from brand. 1" difference increases cup size. I went from a 38B to a 34DD. I am MUCH better fitted and MUCH better looking in the chest area now! Be forewarned if you go to Reddit: there are naked boobies being measured. www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits

A proper fit is KEY. I can only echo what has already been posted. I find that Soma bras are very good bras for a good price. I also like the Wacoal and Chantelle bras but not great if you are wearing the wrong size.
I'd be willing to be that you are wearing the wrong size!

The best thing I ever did was walk into Soma and have a bra fitting. The only bras I wear now are from Soma. I love them! The right bra will change your life lol!

I'll chime in on getting a fitting. I too went to Nordstrom's. Oh my gosh it has made a difference. Make the time and go. They will find your correct size and bras that work.

It doesn't help that every brand is different. So even after the fitting with the nice lady at Norstoms it can be a PITA to find 'the bra' that fits right.
Also, the style matters, if you want to wear push up bras or Demi cup bras you will get a much different look than other cups.
Putting a shirt on over while trying it on is a good tip after all most of the models in the bra ads and displays are wearing bras that they are 'popping out' of ( just) and that's probably it the most comfortable way to wear a bra ( sorry guys ) but it's what we are bombarded with in advertising.

Best thing I ever did for me was a breast reduction...now finding good bras that fit is so easy. I do agree though that you need a good fitting.

I'll second/third/whatever the suggestion to get a professional fitting. I went to my first bra fitting after winning it in a silent auction at my kids' elementary school. One of the parents worked in that department at Macy's and she offered a coupon for a fitting and two bras for the auction. I think I bid like $10.00 or something ridiculous like that. Best deal ever! lol

i think the first step getting over the cup size when you are fitted properly you'll probably be in a smaller band and a larger cup size...and cup sizes over a D freak women out get over the label
cup size is dependent on the band with
a DD at at a 34 is much , much smaller than a DD at 38
victoria secret is the WORST at sizing
find yourself and old lady at a major department store
i like bali bras myself
if i could find a racer back bra that fit well i'd be over the moon!

I remember hearing wired bras caused breast cancer! I think the idea was the wire applied pressure, and subsequently tumors or inflammation. It must have been 1970s.
Long since disproved, but knowing how many other medical "theories* get traction it's understandable women were concerned.
