Do you think once we start entertaining in home that those single use decorative paper guest towels that our parents and grandparents used to have out will become a thing again?

They're a thing now. I was looking at something else and saw that Party City has a wide variety of them and they're on sale.

They’re always a thing here. We used to have neighborhood Euchre and Bunco and I hated going to people’s houses where the hand towel was wet after two people used the bathroom. So I’ve had them out here ever since.
And my secret, if other people don’t have them - use the back of the hanging towel. People always use the front flap and the back flap is usually dry!

When we had my family over for the 4th (which as I said in another post, I wish we hadn't and probably won't again), I put paper towels. The half sheets, in a pile. Right next to the Lysol spray, soap, Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer.

My family never had disposable hand towels. A massage therapist I used to go to had facecloths in the bathroom to use as hand towels. That could work in your house if didn't want to use a disposable option. Except you'd need a sign or to take out the bath towels because no one would realize the stack of facecloths was meant for your hands!

I always made sure to use linen napkins and real hand towels. I wouldn't use paper dishes either, but with Covid and an immuno-compromised husband, I've been making sure that we have paper towel in the bathrooms and kitchen.

Any family gathering I've been to in the last several years has a box of disposable paper towels sitting out. I think they're made by Kleenex. In fact, the last time SO had a head cold, I bought him a box of those because he prefers paper towels over tissues and I was tired of him stealing the kitchen roll.

I hate community towels ever since I've seen way too many people in kitchens do nothing more than stick their fingers under the stream of water, rub them together, then use the community towel to finish cleaning them.

I already used them for any gathering other than close family. If I had one or two friends over, no, but a half-dozen, yes.
Probably going forward I will put them out in the bathroom even for family and a friend or two.

I've always used them for company. Wet towels gross me out - hand towels, dish towels etc. I probably wash 8-10 dish towels a week!

I bought a big pack of shop towels at BJ’s Wholesale and keep them out in the bathroom with a basket to toss them into to be washed after use. They’re not cute (they look like big white cheapo washcloths) but a bit more environmentally friendly than paper ones.

Interesting replies, thanks! I had no idea that they were used so often already. I wonder if it's regional, although I know epeanymous is in my neck of the woods.
Glad to know if I do decide to use them that I probably won't get the side eye!

We used to buy them as little kid birthday gifts for my grandmother back in the ’60s, because she entertained a lot. I don’t know if she actually used them. I bought two dozen white washcloths at Costco, and keep those out in a basket in the bathroom. Because I don’t like the paper towels and I don’t like sharing wet hand towels with a snot-nosed kid, either. (He makes sure to leave a smear of blue toothpaste or the red powder residue from his favorite Flamin’ Hot Cheetos on every clean towel whenever possible.)

Kleenex used to sell extra large heavier tissues. They were very handy to have around. I do like the select-a-size if I have to use paper towels for hands. ETA: MichyM did you ever decide what to able the die you liked. and a machine, borrowed or bought?

I have small baskets on the wall in the bathrooms, They’re labeled clean guest towels. They’re filled with folded cloth napkins for individual use. Then on the floor below them are baskets labeled used guest towels. It just grosses me out to go to someone’s house and have to use a wet hand towel to dry my hands. I’ll wipe them on my jeans first.

I use decorative paper napkins for my guest bath when we are having a group, especially my extended family at Christmas. Using the same actual towel during cold and flu season is gross.

We don’t have people over often but for when we do (outside) my DH took off the towel rack and threaded 2 paper towel rolls through it. Haven’t had to replace it yet. I actually prefer it because before we had big towels and my son would wipe his face after he used acne meds and get bleached spots On them. Now we have paper towels. When we don’t have company I have small hand towels on a separate ring. I just take them out when somebody is coming over.

Add me to the list of those who have been using them for years when guests are over. In the past I would put out a stack of my vintage hand towels and a basket for the used ones, but that's a lot of work to wash and iron them properly. Now I just put out the decorative paper hand towels. My favorites are the ones made by Caspari and I'm always looking for them on clearance sales.

it's a thing now. i always keep a box of the Kleenex disposable hand towels in the bathrooms for when guests come over. they hang conveniently off the towel bars. i hate using guest cloth towels that are already wet from previous use.

I used to have a basket of washcloths and a spot for used ones. For some reason those didn’t get used as often as the paper ones. Maybe I need clearer signage because it seemed people didn’t want to use them.

Where are you all finding the Kleenex disposable towels? I have used them for years (I am a germaphobe and I have been preparing for a pandemic for years!), but can't find them anywhere. I change the guest towel daily and I don't have guests. But one or two uses from me and I'm done.

I buy a huge box of the white paper towels that go in the commercial holders from Costco. I prefer the flat fold ones, but sometimes the C-fold are the only ones available and they work fine too. I have a little tray I stack them on in the powder room. I also put a small stack on the counter in the guest room bath for people to use to wipe shoes, luggage, the counters, etc. Almost everyone who visits uses them for something. I do hang regular hand towels in the bathrooms as well, but the paper ones are always available too. One box lasts years!

TJ Maxx and Homegoods always have good selections of the throwaway napkins. Yikes, it never entered my mind on the hand towels - must stop using them.
