I have never had them. We didn't eat salmon when I was growing up and I have only ever eaten or prepared it smoked or baked/grilled fillets. My DD hates salmon. However for health reasons she really needs to eat healthier and salmon is great for people with rheumatoid arthritis. I know there are other options (and she is taking supplements) but I'd like to find a salmon recipe she would eat. I thought maybe salmon patties with all the other ingredients mixed in wouldn't tasty so fishy. Is this true or are they still pretty fishy tasting?
I've tried marinades/glazes and she still hated it. Granted it's been years since she has tried it but now she is convinced it's terrible (FYI she is 20).

I just remember eating them as a child, and dipping them in ketchup. I don't remember a fishy taste at all! Of course, I look back fondly on fish sticks....

I make mine with breadcrumbs in the mix and lots of seasoning (Old Bay, pepper, garlic and sometimes lemon juice) and they are never fishy at all. We all love them and we make tartar sauce to go with. If you use canned or packaged salmon I think that has even less flavor than a fillet, too. She may not even realize it's salmon if she hates it.

Honestly I love salmon and I am not really a fan of salmon patties, I think if she already hates salmon it is going to be difficult to get her to like it in party form. What about boneless skinless chicken? Or mahi mahi? I find that has a less fishy taste.

I love salmon and think salmon patties are yucky. My parents used to can salmon so my mum made salmon patties occasionally and I still remember gagging on them when I was a kid.
What about salmon oil capsules?

Honestly, if she really dislikes salmon, why try to get her to eat it? She's an adult and can make decisions like that.
That said, I love salmon and salmon patties. Our fish store has them made up and they are delicious on the grill. I like them on top of a salad.

We salmon patties as a burger with Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Herb or Lemon Dill Aoili.
Another way to cook it is to place thin lemon slices and herbs on a piece of foil or parchment paper and then the salmon and wrap up. Can be cooked in the oven or bbq ( foil wrapped only)

If you are making Salmon patties from canned salmon, make sure you take the back of a fork and break up any small bones that might be in there. Says the woman who did not realize I needed to do that. DH was surprised to bite down on a bone, he would not eat them for years!!! No one told me the fork trick!!!

One of my favorite meals growing up were salmon patties fried in the skillet and served with green peas + mac n' cheese.
My mom's recipe:
- Salmon (can use canned or fresh; if using fresh it needs to be ground up) - Egg - Bread crumbs - Finely diced onion - Garlic (optional) - Salt - Pepper
Form into patties. Fry. Eat.

I make salmon patties all the time the key is fresh salmon (I use the sockeye frozen from trader joes.. variety of salmon can make a difference). I would never ever use canned.. to about 3 plus cups of broken up cooked salmon (I cook it frozen.. put in a foil packet with a drizzle of olive oil.. bake 45 min at 400 degrees).. shred in bowl.. add 1 cup of shredded parmesan 1 cup panko crumbs juice of one lime, 3-4 tablespoons mayo a dash or two of worchester sauce 3-4 sliced gr onions 4 eggs mixed up.
add the eggs at the end, just moisten the mixture fry in olive oil at medium high heat 3-4 min a side
simple, easy and not fishy. I have leftovers the next day. we serve with a dollop of plain yogurt.

Ds - nearly 20 - also hated salmon. HATED it. Last fall at college, a friend of his made it for dinner. He was too embarrassed to say he didn't like it, so he just ate it, and turns out he loves it now. Asks for it at least once a week. We always told him his taste buds would change. Glad we were right. 😁 As a result picky nicky will now try all sorts of things he claimed he hated and has added many to his repertoire.

I'm not a huge fan of fish of any kind (especially if its smells really fishy) but I do love canned salmon and tuna. I have RA as well and am making more of an effort to eat more fish generally because of the Omega 3. I wouldn't eat a lot of fresh salmon by choice but do like canned salmon on toast and also make salmon patties with it.

I think salmon patties taste MUCH more fishy than baked/grilled salmon. I love salmon but don’t like salmon patties at all because of that fishy taste.
Let her skip the salmon.

Grew up eating them with sides of mashed potatoes and peas. They were pan fried made with fresh salmon, breadcrumbs and I do not know what else but not overly seasoned and not fishy at all.

I am not a fan of salmon patties but eat tuna patties instead. I like my salmon as a fillet.
Tuna patties are made the same but I find them less 'fishy'.

I've eaten salmon my whole life and never heard of salmon patties. They don't sound awesome. I'm going to suggest that if we don't like the taste of them we just leave them alive, rather than kill them and then hide the taste with other stuff.

I think salmon is like cilantro. If you like it, you like it and if you don't, there is no way to hide the flavor.

But then again, I love anchovies and sardines, so anything else is definitely un-fishy to me. I'm keen to try that recipe slicksister, but we don't have Old Bay seasoning here. Any ideas what is in it, so I can find a substitute?

I love salmon but I get that if she doesn't like it, it's going to be difficult to disguise the taste. Is it the taste or the texture that she doesn't like? Patties would help with texture but not taste.
She can get her Omega 3 from other oily fish like sardines, mackerel, trout and kippers, as well as flax seed (grind it just before use, or buy ground flax seed and keep in the freezer - whole seeds don't give up their oil as well), walnuts and seaweed.

My late MIL used to make salmon pie (maybe a local thing here) mixing canned salmon with mashed potatoes and a little seasoning in a pie crust. Would that be an option for her to try? MIL put peas in hers but the local places we can buy it from don’t.

I will eat salmon if served but not a fave. I do however really like smoked salmon...not sure of it’s nutritional value for your daughter’s need.

I love salmon patties so much and I don't think I've had one for 20 years. My mom used to make them when I was growing up. I always liked the bones- they made a nice little pop when you crunched down on them. Okay, I'm weird.
I think salmon patties taste like fish, though. I don't think they are any less fishy than a nice salmon steak. A salmon steak sounds wonderful right now. I need to get salmon next week. Maybe I can talk my dad into grilling it.

Salmon patties? Like a patty or burger of chopped salmon? Our grocery store has these in like 8 spiced versions. They taste just like salmon? Yuck. I don’t like them. I’ve tried 3 of the flavors thinking oh maybe this will be different and nope it’s just salmon.
A salmon version of crab cake? Haven’t seen it but it sounds interesting, is there even enough salmon to be called a salmon ‘patty’? I’d be willing to try but skeptical.
Good luck finding something she likes. It happens I found a way to feed my DD eggplant, not only did she like it it asked me to make it again 🤷♀️ You never know
