What a great post! I loved reading what everyone is up to!
Weather has been phenomenal here. After a super hot summer, it's been so wonderful having the highs in the low 70s.
We have a fairly quiet weekend. The kids start school on Monday with their new hybrid schedule. Ds has to work today until 5 and the girls work from 4-9ish. So we can't go far as we have to transport the girls to/from work.
Tomorrow we're going apple picking! I need to make applesauce so we'll be picking a lot.
Have a great weekend ladies!!

So I think I will clean out and organize my bathroom closets. I really do enjoy organizing. I hate organizing, but it always feels good when it's done. If you'd like to come tackle my closet, I'm all about it. LOL! Have a great weekend While I do love that, it's nice to be 'just us' sometimes, too. I agree sometimes it's nice to just have a quiet weekend at home. Jeremy and I enjoy just spending that time together. I am running the first loop of 10 miles with one of them You go girl! 10 miles is nothing to sneeze at. I hope your runner's high lasts all day. We are shopping for a dishwasher in Tropical Storm Sally If you've been without a dishwasher, I'm sure you are thrilled to finally be getting a new one. But by the end of the weekend I will have two new painted rooms: My son's bathroom and the laundry room. That will bring me joy! I love the feeling of a freshly painted room. I find painting to be quite meditative. There's something about painting a room that just relaxes me. It is Saturday night here and we have just arrived home from celebrating our eldest grandchild’s 13th birthday! How wonderful! I am always surprised to hear peas with grandchildren. Jealous, I am, really. I cannot wait to be a grandma. We aren’t scheduled to be back at work until Wednesday. That's a good feeling. People often take Fridays off, but I much prefer to skip a Monday. I'd much rather start my week late than finish early. Don't know what it is about me that makes me feel that way, but I do. Tomorrow we're going apple picking! I need to make applesauce so we'll be picking a lot. Apple picking sounds like fun! Where I used to live when my kids were little, we had a nearby orchard where we always went in the fall for apple picking and they had the best cider donuts too. I miss those days. J u l e e I tried to respond to everyone here on this thread. And I realized this morning I missed your post. And I'm very sorry because your post was perhaps the most important of all. I'm sorry for your loss, but I am so glad you get to celebrate her life in a place that has meaning for your family and is associated with good memories. I hope this weekend that you guys can laugh while you cry. That's my favorite part about a memorial.

I wish I knew...this week has sucked with rainy cold weather, public school drama (a superintendent & school board who refuse to comply with state laws regarding in-person learning) no HS football game because of the drama, weekend homework for DS, and my laptop died unexpectedly I should just sequester myself at my scrapbooking desk all weekend (although I need my laptop for some things) but maybe that might bring me some joy...I'm going to try to find some joy, I promise!

I thought we needed a positive post. So tell me what's on your fun list for this weekend? Jeremy's kids are coming this weekend. They haven't been here since Father's Day weekend. His three girls are bringing two cousins and a boyfriend so we will have a house full of kids. I've decided to get my Halloween decorations out. Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. So I'm going to enjoy my decorations a bit longer than usual this year. I just figured they make me happy, so why not? And I've decided to get over to Michael's this evening and I'm going to buy the kids some of those fake pumpkins and some glow in the dark paints and googly eyes and just fun stuff and let the kids decorate pumpkins so I can display them. The kids are getting older but I still feel like they would enjoy some holiday crafts. Other than that, I plan to scrapbook this weekend as I'm participating in the Sketchtember challenge over on the GS board. I will cook some good food this weekend. The kids have requested lasagna (which is one of my specialties) and beer can chickens (which is one of Jeremy's favorite meals to make). I will also do some baking and make some oatmeal chocolate chip bars. Baking always makes me happy. The kids will be happy too. What simple joys are you looking forward to this weekend? I think it’s important to focus on positive so thanks for your post. I’m going to walk with a friend on a community trail and work in the yard, which I love.

Thanks for the inspiration jeremysgirl ! I reached out to my old college roommate who I don't talk to nearly enough to trade first kid off to college stories. Then I decided I really needed to get out of the house this weekend so texted a few friends I haven't seen in a while. I now have plans for a walk later this afternoon, drinks on our patio tomorrow and paddle boarding on Monday! I did't exactly expect everyone to jump at the chance to see me - I guess I wasn't the only one eager to do something.

I'm cultivating joy by heading to Michigan to hang at jeremysgirl! I just got off Pinterest looking at no carve pumpkin ideas. I love lasagna but my peeps don't, screw that. I like beer! I like chicken! I'm in. I'll help! I'll bring my scrapbook supplies, of course I have a ton. I make a wicked peanut butter brownie treat, will that work? What kind of wine or otherwise do you like?

Come on over malibou! I've got some new red wines for the lasagna. And my oatmeal chocolate chip bars turned into cowboy cookies. I've got the first batch in oven right now. And I'm having a disco dance party while I bake.

For reals, we are chilling at home, I am going to try to make Bibimbap it's a Korean rice bowl.
Dh is heading out on Monday for a bikepacking trip to Colorado, so we are figuring out what all he needs and how to get it on his bike. He has been wanting to do this trip for many years, and this is the year. It will be him and 5 of his biking buddies.
I am digging out my pumpkins early in the hopes it will curb the buying of more pumpkins. I did just buy three, I hope that's it. Well, other than real pumpkins. I am also making a Halloween banner for my niece's new house.

I hope things are looking a bit more cheerful for you now. DD’s Birthday was yesterday so we had a small dinner and fire on our deck with her BF and his mom and dad. Kebabs, fresh corn and libations along with a cake and lots of conversation and laughs made for a relaxing celebration.

But there was a vent thread right on the front page of this board.

She said she was going to try to look for some joy even though her day was difficult. I don’t mean to pee in your proverbial pool but your comment did nothing but suck whatever joy she was able to find. Kind of defeats the purpose of the thread. And with that I’m off to plant mums. Have a joyful day!

Have a joyful day! Yeah I could have just ignored it. Bad weeks go both ways. I have feelings too. Just because I didn't share it doesn't mean my life was all rosy this week. I was trying to get excited about this weekend as well. But you're right I could have put my feelings away in deference to someone else's. But I'm a person too who has some real struggles. I try my damnedest to avoid the drama and venom here. And I'll tell you what I tried to cultivate the kind of board I want to see. *I* felt slapped. But I'll tell you what. I apologize if I made her feel worse than she already did. But I'll tell you the truth and that is *I* was shocked. The impact wasn't one sided.

I would love the recipe for your beef barley soup. I haven’t had that in years and it sounds good. I just made this one from Pinterest. It was good. I used my crockpot for about 5 house on low. I did brown the meat first with salt, pepper and garlic, but did not precook the vegetables. link Scrapper100I forgot to say I added some beef base and 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. I thought it would need more than water for the broth.

I started the day off by making Biscoff Rocky Road which is absolutely delicious. I’ve been getting a wooden garden building/summerhouse built this week, and my builder just finished a few hours ago. I’m probably going to spend the weekend doing the interior decor. I’ve been planning this space for several years, so I am beyond excited to finally have it! kristi , I’m curious about scotch cake. What is it like? It is a Texas sheet cake my grandmother made Here is a link from Pioneer Woman that is really similar (I leave off the pecans) Scotch Cake

I'm going to do some decluttering and organizing this weekend. My problem is I buy stuff to organize, then I find a better way later. I waste a lot of money, but each thing is from Target, so not too expensive. And I donate the rest.
I love summer, and pretty much keep my summer/beach decor up all year! So I am going to look for some summer decor on clearance and when I get depressed about it being fall, I will pull it out to cheer myself and my family up! Anything blue and white or yellow always makes me happy.

We are in the green where I live. Went to a fancy restaurant for my husband's birthday. It was last minute and late so I had their famous peach pie and homemade root beer.

I have 2 new metal garden beds to put together. I’ve had someone clearing my garden for the past 3 weeks as her time allowed, so I’m hoping to get my new beds set in place of some old ones that need replacing.
My grand dog is sitting under my mom’s recliner and my DD is enthroned on my bed and Mom, DD and I watch YouTube together.

Yikes..as I was reading and enjoying the thread, I had a post planned out that was just going to mention the hard time I've been having lately and end with what I did this weekend to work on making it better but would hate to make anyone feel "slapped." I didn't see it as bringing the thread down, just conversational, but I'll keep it to myself.

Making chocolate chip waffles, stopping to notice my 5 senses, watching church on you tube with my kids, dropping off some old toys for my 3 year old niece, having a visit with my mom on the driveway for grandparents day....contemplating new knitting projects...enjoying the cooler darker early morning. And of course reading this board!

Thank you, @jeremysgjrl. I love how you reply to people in your threads and try to make them conversational. I often think of threads I’d like to post to be like that, but I can’t always come back to them or have time to reply to all the thoughts I’d like to.
My MIL’s memorial was exactly like you wrote. My husband’s aunt couldn’t be there for her own sister’s passing or service because she lives in Florida and would have had to quarantine for two weeks in Ohio and that wasn’t possible. There were tears, but afterward I was sitting in the sun on the warm sand with my ritual of sifting through pebbles looking for beach glass and listening to my daughter and her cousin laughing in the waves (Lake Erie is still pretty warm right now!) and thought about this thread. I find joy in little rituals as well, and as odd as it sounds in the midst of really hard stuff, the simplest things can be the most healing.
(My daughter and I sat on a bench by the lake for part of the service. Her grandmother is the first person she has ever known to have died and Quinn couldn’t make it through the whole thing. She struggled with putting others’ feelings above her own after we walked out and all the expectations of the people in the room and society in general when it comes to death and funerals. She felt guilt for not putting aside her own feeling to “be there” for her dad (which he completely understood and assured her as well). Anyway, that was a heartbreaking conversation because everyone sees that differently too. However, while we were sitting there, dozens and dozens of Monarchs kept flying over our heads, coming over the lake from Canada on their way to Mexico. She stopped crying for a bit and said, “grandma loved butterflies” and it was the most peaceful thing. I’m holding that in my heart and felt like sharing it here.)

Today is the first day my church can have services since last March. I only “rediscovered” church last summer and it has become very important to me.I have really missed it. I know today will be different… Masks, social distancing, etc. But it just feels so good to me to be able to go back and gather with other people who also want to worship.

I took my youngest son on a hike yesterday. I wanted to take the whole family and normally would not have gone with just him but I’m so glad I did. I need to get out into nature more and I need to do things with my kids 1:1 more so I’m definitely putting that hike in the joy category!

My parents were kind of whack, but one of the really awesome things they did was make sure each of the 5 of us got to have alone with our parents be it going to the store, or going for a walk of some type. We all appreciated the time as we felt special.

I truly appreciate this post, but I failed at cultivating joy this weekend. I skipped a family bridal shower today and will be skipping the wedding in a few weeks and it’s really taken a toll on me emotionally. Tomorrow is another day.
