she has lost about 30 pounds over the last several months (cancer) and her clothes are too big. i think her current pants are a medium, so i was looking to get her something in small.
she is 84 so skin tight leggings aren't really a good option for her.
she goes to the hospital every day and has to take her clothes off several times a day on some days.
she is about 5'5" and weighs about 100.
any ideas?

Try searching for adaptive clothing for older adults. Buck and buck is one catalog that I've ordered several things for different people in my life from

I have several pairs of this pant in my size. They are super comfy, generally don't shrink, and have held up really well. They were my weekend pants but now they're my work from home pants. Oh, and they have big side pockets. (I personally do not really care for the drawstring. It always eventually gets caught in the washing machine agitator and twists terribly, making it utterly useless, so I often cut them out.)

I am not sure if they are considered soft as they are not fuzzy...but they are not stiff. I consider them soft. The leg is reg width and they have pockets and elastic waist. I think they are very comfortable. LL Bean women’s perfect fit pants

We bought these for my elderly mom when she was having to go to physical therapy. She likes them and still wears them. My mom is 5'3 and chunkier than your mother, but we did her her a petite for the shorter length and they were still a bit long so we had them hemmed to make sure she didn't trip on them. This is what I was going to recommend. I also like the Starfish line and find the knit a little heavier—closer to a pointe knit. They have a houndstooth print and a few plaids, if your mom likes a pattern in her pants. My MIL is almost 86 and I just ordered the houndstooth one for her. I have a pair of Starfish crops and I like them because the waistband is wide and smooth when worn, not gathered up like most elastic waist pants. I hope your mom’s treatment is going well and that she finds some comfy pants to wear.

If you want something a little lighter weight (no idea if it's still hot where she lives), try the Old Navy linen-blend pull up pants. My mom loves her.

I just got a pair of pants and a pair of cropped pants from Christopher and Banks, their Relaxed Restyled line. Nice weight, not tight, have pockets.
Best wishes to you and your momma.

These are the ones my mom wears. She is tiny and weighs nothing. We get her the petites. They wash well, and hold up for a long time. Blair pull-on pants

Check QVC - Denim & Co has some great options. And you can see the video presentation so you know what you’re getting. And no need to go to the store!

Another vote for Lands End. My mom loved them. They have knits, corduroy, khakis... they launder well & don’t need to be ironed. They also DONT look “little old lady”. If you agree to get their emails you will get a steady stream of discount coupons for 30-50% off. Hugs to you & your mom as you go thru this.

In her final year my Mom weighed about 85 pounds and also needed soft pull on clothes.
My favorite was the soft cotton leggings at Walmart, NOT the lycra ones. She could have worn an xs, but I got a small so they wouldn't be too tight. The soft sueded cotton kept her warm as well because she was always cold.

I'm really glad this question was asked. My sister has been looking for some pants for my mom. She dislocated her shoulder in the spring and doesn't have full range of motion back yet, plus, with her dementia pull on pants is easiest for her to deal with. It's getting colder and she needs warmer pants. Lots of really good recommendations here that I have passed on.

Try boscovs.com. It’s a local to me department store and they carry a lot of brands older ladies buy. They stock petite sizes and run sales.

By the time you’re 84 years old, I’m sorry but you ARE a little old lady and that stuff usually doesn’t matter all that much anymore. Half the time if my brother didn’t confiscate her dirty clothes to wash them when she was sleeping, my mom would have worn the same pair of pants and sweatshirt all week straight.
