I’m probably the one you’re seeing wearing the mask in the car on the highway. To pass through the gate at my moms senior living complex, I have to wear a mask and answer a bunch of questions. It’s just easier to have it in place when I drive up rather than fumbling and holding up the line. I’m on the highway for one exit.
I always wear it inside stores and the like.

Yes, I absolutely do. And - I wear it covering my nose and mouth. Unlike many um.... fellow Texans who do not.

If I am running multiple errands, I leave my mask on in the car. I don't want to touch it more than necessary not do I really find it that bothersome so keeping it on makes more sense.

I've been wearing a mask since day one. And I'm in a red state full of "Don't tell me what to do" anti-maskers. Fortunately once it became mandatory, most everyone wears a mask. I will even wear a mask in a fast food drive through. I seem to be in the minority though. Don't understand why protecting FF workers is an exemption.
Re vaccine: Fauci said way back in the spring that a vaccine wouldn't be available to the public until early 2021 or spring 2021. They were going to give the first batch to First Responders. So I'm not sure what all the hubbub is about that situation. And he recently said that we shouldn't expect normalcy until about Fall 2021.
I believe the scientists. They are schooled and trained rigorously. Politicians are known liars to persuade the public for their own gain. I'll keep listening to science and rolling my eyes at Trumpy.

I don't believe Trump, I believe science. I'm irrationally annoyed he's trying to walk back what the CDC said about masks yesterday. That man HAS to GO!
I wear a mask when in public (grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, etc). I won't do anything other than that. No dining out, no movies, no gatherings, no shopping for things other than essentials. I don't wear a mask in my car UNLESS I'm picking something up at a drive thru window, then I'll have a mask at the window.

I wear a mask in public inside. But our gov’t doesn’t believe the mask is our best defence. It is considered a third defence, behind distancing and hand hygiene. I think that is a given. Any place that requires masks in our state also requires the other two. Yes but the quote in the OP says otherwise which is why I mentioned it.

I wear a mask because it's mandated in indoor spaces or crowded outdoor ones, like a farmers market. I put it on just before going in the building & take it off the second I leave.
My region govt just voted to extend the mask mandate until May 31, 2021!!!!

The everyday masks people are wearing are to help protect the world from them. They are to keep your germs to yourself. Whatever is on the outside of your masks is also on your hair and clothes and shoes and car and the trees. Masks don't have any more germs on their outsides than anything else in your immediate environment or on your body and you're not creating a germ hazard to yourself when you remove them. Your non-n95 mask isn't effectively protecting you from anything outside of yourself, including anything on the outside of it. Well, now I’m confused. Why all the talk about type and size of weave in mask fabric? Why those studies that compared what size particles could or could not be inhaled INTO different fabrics? Early on, I even watched a YouTube video of docs/nurses in a hospital testing various homemade masks with whatever special “fit’ gizmo they have at work (they sprayed something pungent and then reported whether they could smell it). I’ve been working under the assumption that yes, a fabric mask is more to protect others from me, but that it is also possible that the mask could trap some contagions on the outside through inhalation. Regardless, if I’m just going by the claim that there’s nothing at all on my mask that isn’t on my skin or hair or clothes or trees, I’m much more concerned about something on the outside of my masks that I then push down and aim right at my nostrils than I am what’s stuck in hair or clothing. Or trees. LOL. Am I making sense? Can you (or anyone) explain more?

Michael Steele has had it with people who don’t wear masks and has no more f&cks to give: I saw that yesterday and I felt such kinship with him, in that his whole demeanor just perfectly summarized how I’m feeling in the days running up to the election. His tv personality was off and all the frustration, exhaustion, confusion (about reasons for the 40% living in an alternative reality) anger, sadness and every other emotion was evident on his face and in his body language.

I wear a mask in all indoor situations. I haven’t been wearing one on my daily walks because it’s usually deserted there and there’s ample room on the paths. BUT, last week I was out walking and the nearby HS had sent its gym classes out to run on the paths. So I was having to dodge 5 separate groups of 7 or so students running by me and leaving their aerosols in their wake. Now I have a mask in my bag if that happens again.

From the University of Maryland Medical Dept.
”Mask Safety and Effectiveness
Myth: Cloth masks don't protect you.
Fact: Cloth face masks are effective. They create a barrier between your mouth and nose and those around you. This makes it more difficult for the droplets that spread coronavirus through coughs, sneezes and talking to reach other people. Cloth masks mainly keep you from unknowingly spreading the disease to others, but some studies indicate that they may help protect you from large droplets and serve as an indirect reminder to avoid touching your face.
This is why wearing a cloth mask inside all retail stores and public transportation has been mandatory in Maryland since April 2020. And as more services such as getting a haircut or eating in a restaurant are being allowed, it is as important as ever to continue wearing a mask. We're all in this together.
Myth: Other masks are more effective than cloth masks.
Fact: Different types of masks serve different purposes, but cloth masks are highly effective for the general public. The average person who is not working in a medical environment with COVID-19 patients should wear a cloth mask to conserve personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical workers.”
Yes I should have worded the question better and I would fix it if I could but it appears once a poll is set one can’t go back in and make changes.
Having said that it appears wearing masks do offer some protection for the wearer when they are around those who do not as noted above. Which is another reason why we should all wear them.

I do only when I have to, and make decisions on my activities based on whether I feel up to wearing the mask that day. When I go out, I wear it. So, I pick and choose what is worth going out for.

We’ve all been wearing masks since the beginning when we go places. We don’t wear them when we’re outside in the open, but we live in an area that isn’t very population dense so if there are others around they aren’t close or it’s easy to avoid coming within 6 feet or so if we do happen to see someone out walking or whatever.
Since DH comes from a family of scientists (a good number of whom had doctorates in their fields), I’m firmly on Team Scientist.
I believe that my wearing a mask protects you more than it protects me, but if ALL of us are wearing them, ALL of us are more protected overall. Does it suck? Sure it does, but being on a ventilator alone in a hospital would suck 10,000x more.

I do this as well. It may not be necessary, but it's easier for me to have it in place and not fiddle with it. It also keeps me from touching my face repeatedly. After my last errand when I'm heading home, I take it off.

Not in the car, but if I get out and go inside somewhere yes. I see people wearing them in their cars when they do curbside pick-up (in the spot next to me) and wonder if I'm doing something wrong... Me too! I see people driving down the highway, all by themselves wearing masks. I wear mine whenever I'm in public. I've been made fun of a few times. Next time that happens, tell them you'd rather wear a mask than a ventilator.

Sometimes. I wear one if I go in a store or doctors offices. I don't wear one when we go out to dinner. I don't wear one at work until a customer comes in & then I put it on (I work alone). So I didn't vote in the poll.

I am so fucking tired of the stupidity. Yes I wear a mask. I wear it when I am at work all day. 9+ hours a day in a mask, often out of breath because I am chasing kids and running around dealing with behaviors. I wear a mask when I am at the grocery store. I wear a mask into restaurants (the few times I have felt brave enough to enter them). I wear a mask while walking downtown if it is crowded. If it’s not crowded I carry a mask and wear it before and after I pass by some people. I do not wear my mask in an empty parking lot. For example, when I get out of work, there’s nobody else there. That mask comes off then. If I’m walking around my neighborhood, my mask probably won’t be on. But I’ll have it in my pocket just in case I run into someone and want to chat. I do not wear my mask in my yard. I don’t wear my mask at my inlaws house or when I am around my parents. They’re in our bubble. I make my children wear masks. Even the 3 year old. My older children wear masks all day at school. 7+ hours in a mask. They aren’t dying from it. 😉. My children have to wear their masks when we take them out and about and to the stores and around people. It is fine, and it is not a big burden. The 3 year old fought us at first, but we just worked with her on it. Multiple exposures through the day, building up a tolerance to it, gradually increasing the amount of time she can stand to have it on. It is fine. Put the damn masks on your faces and stay healthy and stop spreading germs. Get on board people!!! exactly...

We’re getting ready to reopen our store in the New Orleans French Quarter in October. I’m telling you right now if anyone tries to pull the no mask crap they’re getting thrown out right away. No haggling, no arguing, OUT! We were in Rockport, TX last month and walked into a little shop, and the owner had a sign saying she wouldn't be wearing a mask due to a health condition. We turned out and walked back out again. Had another shout at us as we walked in that we "didn't have to wear those f'in masks in here." Several customers had taken him up on it, so we left there, too. People are crazy. It's such a little thing, and it's been very easy to see the direct correlation between our governor finally issuing a mask mandate (after not allowing county executives to do it) and the rapid decline of cases in our state. Good for you for doing the right thing. I hope no one gives you any problems.

Or trees. LOL. Am I making sense? Can you (or anyone) explain more? I guess the question I have is why do you have reason to believe there is Covid (or anything) stuck on the outside of your mask? If we believe that inhaling causes extra particles to get sucked onto the outsides of our masks that can then create an infectious germ cloud when we remove them, then wearing masks is actually more dangerous for the wearer than not wearing them, and we'd all be getting infected that way. But our evidence-based science tells us otherwise. There really shouldn't be any more germs on the front of your mask than are everywhere, but it's not going to hurt you to operate as if there are -- it's just not going to be science. Pedantic surgical tidbit: The substance they use to FIT test N95s is saccharine. It's because you can taste, not smell, it if your mask isn't properly fitted. Smell is not a good indicator of germ transmission (there is a scientific reason for that, but I'm too tired)

I’ve worn a mask when I leave the house since we went into our first lockdown in March. Now they’re compulsory on public transport and encouraged in other places.
