At a Senate hearing today the Director of the CDC said two things.
1. No vaccine until the middle of next year.
2. Wear your mask it’s the best defense against the virus.
trump held a briefing this afternoon and he said he called Redfield and took him to task for giving what he claims is misinformation.
I decided to add a poll. There are three sets of questions and if I did it right you can give three answers.
NPR...
”Top Trump administration health officials testified Wednesday that a vaccine for COVID-19 is not likely to be widely available until next spring or summer, and that wearing a mask, in the words of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield, remains "the most important, powerful public health tool we have."
"I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against COVID than when I take a COVID vaccine," Redfield told a Senate panel Wednesday.”
Kaitlan Collins...
”Sounds like Dr. Redfield got quite a phone call after his testimony today. Trump says he asked him why he said a vaccine won’t be ready for wide distribution until middle of next year and why he said a mask could be as effective as a vaccine. Trump disputes both.“
”As far as the mask is concerned, he made a mistake,” Trump says.”

Yes, I wear a mask. My state has a mandate, but I would wear it anyway. I believe in science, and it's absolutely made a difference here. We began the pandemic as a hot spot, but thanks to our governor taking it seriously, we flattened the curve and businesses have been able to remain open with distancing. Our death and case rates are much lower than states with comparable populations that have taken no precaution.

Yes and I did before it was mandatory in my region. I've been wearing a mask every time I leave the apartment since March.

Yes, I wear a mask and have been since before it was mandatoty here. I do it because it’s easy and maybe it does some good, not because I’m convinced they’re effective. Our head medical advisor in Canada has never fully endorsed them. Everything I’ve read makes it seem doubtful that non medical masks are protecting anyone. But it’s the best we’ve got, so I’m 100% wearing them. Why wouldn’t I?

I don't wear one when I am outside, but I do if I am in a building. Our state has a mandate (indoors) but I wore a mask before that was given.
I was recently in a state that does not have a mandate. Many people still wore a mask, but I left feeling like having the mandate is so much easier. There is no thinking about whether or not to wear one, you just do.

Of course I wear a mask. I hate it and feel ridiculous when I talk, but if it’s recommended then I’m going to do it to help myself and others.
My favorite meme: You’re being asked to wear a mask, not a Nickelback t-shirt.

Trump is full of doo doo.
He is not a health expert and should not play one on TV. He does not fool me.

to be honest, I didn't wear one very often before there was a community mandate. I did sometimes, but not all the time. Because here in the wild west of Arizona, people have somewhat of a 'science-schmience' attitude... so I was glad when the governor finally allowed cities and towns to mandate masks. That made me feel 'normal' with it on. I do take it off once I get out of the store, if there isn't anyone else in my vicinity. And I haven't been going very many places anyway, even before the mask mandate.
I believe science, and that masks, SIP, hand-washing, etc. is the right thing to do for us to stay healthy, and once they have an approved vaccine, I still don't know that I'll trust it. Not the US one, anyway, since we decided we were going to 'go-it-alone' and not have anything to do with the WHO and other countries' vaccine development efforts.

I don’t wear one when I’m outside, when I’m doing water activities, at friends’ houses, etc.
I wear one inside public places.
For example, yesterday we went to Top Golf. We wore them in the lobby to check in, but took them off once we get to our bay.

Not in the car, but if I get out and go inside somewhere yes.
I see people wearing them in their cars when they do curbside pick-up (in the spot next to me) and wonder if I'm doing something wrong...

Yup, I wear a mask, my husband wears a mask, my 3 year old wears a mask.
I believe science over 45.
There is NO way that I am not going to wear a mask and be responsible for getting those I love sick.

I wear a mask in public inside. But our gov’t doesn’t believe the mask is our best defence. It is considered a third defence, behind distancing and hand hygiene.

Not outside but in the grocery, Costco, Trader Joe's, etc. where it is required.

Yes I wear a mask. I don’t wear one when I go for walks but I will walk into the street if I approach someone else so I’m not within 6 feet. I have worn one outdoors at Balboa Park before I sit down on the grass because it’s difficult to stay six feet away from people in certain areas.

I see people wearing them in their cars when they do curbside pick-up (in the spot next to me) and wonder if I'm doing something wrong... They could have someone else in the car that isn't part of those they share a home with. Or they could not want to touch their mask after having been somewhere else. Or they could simply have forgotten to take it off in the car. Or not have a dedicated spot for it in their car.

Well except the way you worded the reasons you put for wearing a mask are not contradictory. I wear a mask because I think it makes a difference, but, it protects others from me more than it protects me.

I wear my mask anytime I’m out in public. I don’t wear it when I’m driving in my car but the couple of times I’ve gone thru the drive thru for food, I put on my mask when I get to the window. Once I leave the drive thru I take it off.

yes - we've been wearing masks since March. They've never been mandatory in my area and the few stores that 'require' (but don't enforce) didn't start until late July at the earliest. I will continue to wear masks for the foreseeable future.
fwiw - I HATE wearing a mask but I'm still going to do so.
Even if the public health experts end up being wrong and masks don't help, wearing one won't have hurt me. But if they are right, then not wearing one might. I'll err on the side of science and common sense

Always when entering a store, and silently judging people who don’t.

I get there, call, open all the windows, pop the hatch for the groceries, and pre-pay online. I wonder if the store employees think I'm a jerk... Actually, this morning I ended up getting a gift card because they weren't ready with my stuff and I had to wait 45 minutes and then I felt bad for ordering too much food (family of 6) so maybe I need to find a new store...

I take mine off when I'm driving, I put my mask back on for those couple of seconds while at the drive through or while I'm getting curbside pickup. (I also take my mask with me outside when I'm walking and I will put it on if I see another person coming near me.) Our mask mandate says something like you don't need it outside unless you are closer than six feet, and I feel like the car is "outside" even though I'm in it, and I feel like I'm closer than six feet for pickup, so... I'd rather just put it on for a couple of seconds.

(Old car, I don’t have an inside release ). I then get back in the car and put a mask on. When they come out to the car, they put the groceries in back and then they come to the drivers window with the receipt and tell you about substitutions. Because I have to put the window down to talk to them, I always wear a mask until I close the window back up.

Yes. Even into stores that don’t require them.
I’m dont understand why they have not been mandated here.

I wear mine pretty much all the time. I didn't wear one sitting in a park with friends yesterday because we were outside and we were sitting about 8 feet from each other. We all agreed to take them off. If one wanted us to keep them on, we would've. It was only 4 of us. I wear one pretty much all the rest of the time out of my home - not in my car though. If I am going to get any closer than 6 feet to anyone, mask is on. But even with my mask on, I practice social distancing. It's pretty ingrained in us here in CT at this point.
