Also, until i tried European and Australian liquorice I didn't like it. It’s 1000% the opposite of the black licorice vines we all grew up with.

They derive it from the plant/root and use it as a sweetener in a number of products, but in nowhere near the amounts you find in the root itself and it is regulated as an additive.

Yes, I love licorice but having been a child in Germany I much prefer the European versions. Like Katjes Kinder-the black licorice cats or any of the other different versions. Yummy! Although I must admit-Gummi Bears from Germany have been my favorite since I was 3 and still are.

My Baba (grandma) would buy Twizzlers and always make us pull it, if she got the larger piece she'd quickly grab your smaller piece and switch you 😍

I like black licorice and I have a Christmas cookie recipe that calls for anise. Yum. My dad used to swear by "Meloids"-- tiny little pieces of strong flavored licorice--to cure almost anything from a soar throat to a head cold to an upset stomach. But with a tiny tin of them in his shirt pocket lasting for weeks, I doubt if they did him any harm.
But I could not eat a bag and a half a day. If the guy was eating all that candy, what else was he NOT eating?

It's used in some beauty products, too; it supposedly has anti-inflammatory properties. To answer the original question: Red (strawberry) twizzlers, yes. Cherry twizzlers, no. Red Vines, hell no. Black licorice, like maybe four jelly beans at Easter, then I'm good. But they were my mom's favorite. (And always the black Chuckle.)

I love black licorice! Yum! I like red licorice like Red Vines. I don't like Twizzlers and do NOT consider them licorice. German made Gummi Bears are so delicious.

Yum, yes I love liquorice - proper liquorice that is. I love anything with an aniseed flavour. Licorice ice cream has always been my favourite flavour, even as a young child. The black jelly beans are my favourite. I like plain licorice and chocolate covered licorice. I love the Darrell Lea licorice Easter egg, and now they have released a chocolate and licorice block. As for lollies, I love aniseed balls, black cats, Choo Choo bars, chocolate licorice bullets. I've made a licorice all sorts slice before ( AllieC I'm pretty sure you or your daughter has also made the same slice?). And I love cooking with aniseed type spices such as star anise and fennel seeds. And I just bought a bottle of ouzo the other day so I could make an ouzo mayonnaise to have with calamari. Sarsparilla is my favourite soft drink. However I do NOT like Dutch licorice. Also, until i tried European and Australian liquorice I didn't like it. I get irrationally annoyed when the red stuff gets called liquorice. ETA: My MacBook doesn't know whether it's American or English - it corrected the spelling to liquorice instead of licorice, but only half of the time - weird. Over the years I have spelt it both ways.
