Welcome to the fresh month of October! This month's team is boymom5 , ComplicatedLady , sleepingbooty , azcrafty , natscraps , nylene , lynnek , Linda , KikiPea , destined2bmom , angel97701 , CoffeeCrafter , justjac We have no "gramma's" Happy Fall Ya'll! I know Shimelle will NOT use the word "Fall". I guess in England it's only "Autumn". Considering that I am very Canadian (think favourite, colour, centre, zed, eh?) I thought more carefully about which term I prefer. I like Fall. Autumn seems formal. It doesn't "fall" out of my mouth right! I think it's what you grew up with, right? I got myself over 1600 points last month and completed 18 layouts for sketchtember. I think I will be less productive this month, but I still feel the mojo flowing, I have new supplies (Vicki B., fall doodlebug, Cocoa Vanilla) to help, and 11 unfinished sketches. SO. Bring it. AND Did you see Gramma's "way back, way way back" challenges? Ladies, everything is points. I think we're playing Calvinball Now, I realized in posting a few things this morning that I am an over-adopter of I'm gonna try and rein it in. I normally make a lot of facial expressions while I'm talking to people IRL and I think I use the little yellow dudes to compensate... Please come chat with us if you have time! angel97701, I'd love to hear what's up with you - long time no "see"! KikiPea, are you no longer posting a sketch/lift challenge? I have them all printed out from the past, and fresh inspiration is so great. destined2bmom - I know you post over on the NSBR. Let us know if something juicy is going down. I tend to stay away, but will read a "train wreck" thread (even tho it bothers me that there are mean scrapbookers out there!) if it's pointed out.

Welcome to Autumn! kitbop and Divas! kitbop - I grew up with Autumn but now use both mostly because everyone around me uses Fall and looks at me a little oddly when I saw Autumn. It's my favourite season - weather is starting to cool down (although we're headed back into the 80s tomorrow ) and I love the leaves changing, wearing sweaters, eating pumpkin muffins/pie/gingerbread, apples, cranberries, drinking hot cider....but alas I live in Florida and the leaves don't change and it'll probably be January before I can wear a sweater all day. I completed Sketchtember last month and am hoping to do the same for Cardtober although I find cards much more challenging than sketches - I'm definitely more of a scrapbooker at heart. October is off to a slow start but that's partly because my youngest turned 14 yesterday and instead of being creative, we were making memories.

eating pumpkin muffins/pie/gingerbread, apples I made pumpkin muffins with LOTS of cream cheese icing yesterday (so, well, I made cupcakes then) and they are so good, disappearing quickly into all of us. I have a lot of frozen pumpkin from years past, and need to use some so I can freeze more I love using up the jack-o-laterns, why waste? Apples are one of my favourite fruits. We picked up a bushel of fresh honeycrisps at market yesterday. They take up a LOT of fridge space, but the $ saving to buy in bulk is too good to pass up when your family eats them as quickly as mine. Happy birthday to your DD! It goes so much more quickly once they are teens, doesn't it?

I love fall and everything pumpkin. I got my 5 boxes of gluten-free pumpkin pancake mix from Trader Joe's this year, and really happy about it. They sell out really fast ,last year I missed out so I am making up for it. Really wanted 20 boxes....but hubby didn't let me buy that many 🤣😂 The mornings are nice and cool finely, but we are still hitting over 100degress in the day time. After having 140+ days of over a 100 and a record of 50+ days of 115 and over. Im over the summer.
I'm excited about CARDtober. This is my second year to play along, and this time I'm hosting Tuesdays. Usually make all the challenges so I'm hoping to collect a lot of points.

Our fall is confused here as it's going from upper 70's to lower 40's all within a week and then back again! I almost finished up all the sketches last month, but caught a bug the last week and never caught up. And I never used the challenges last month to get myself out of the box. So my goal this month is to use the challenges vs the number of layouts. I'm also hoping to get out more on those warmer days with the kids to get some pictures to scrap! I have fall papers/collections, so I need more pics to use them all up.

We have a meme going around in Oregon that says, Welcome to Oregon Winter at 6:00 am, Spring at 10:00 am, summer at 2:00 pm and Fall around 4:30. Please dress accordingly! I live in the High Desert of Central Oregon, so this is especially true at an altitude of 3,400 ft. We've had an amazingly warm September and NO frost yet. We've usually had several killer frost before Oct rolls around. That means I still have a few cucumbers in my garden. My spaghetti squash is all harvested and "curing" in my green house. I had 49 harvestable squash from 2 plants! I will be sharing with family and friends! My corn did great this year too, but I don't know if I want to can corn. I've only done one batch of tomato sauce, but have 7 quarts of cherry tomatoes frozen. Maybe I'll sauce some of them too. Tried an new method which was great! Roast quartered tomatoes for 45 minutes, cool, put through food mill to remove skins and seeds, reduce down and water bath can. Of course read a real canning recipe to do your own! But it was way better than the previous method of blanching and removing skins in boiling water, ice water to cool down and so on. So much less wet waste for the compost pile.
Sad news is that we didn't get our 2 steer into the trailer yesterday . . . missed our butcher date and I do not know what we will do, no mobile butcher dates until Feb
Enough farm news . . . no scrapping news to tell yet. I really hope that I can find my missing mojo!
As for my boys . . . DS14's IEP should be finalized soon. We've had two meetings and are waiting on the final new document. He is on the FAS spectrum, has an IQ of 78 and we will have him pursue a modified diploma. He has soft schedule with only 2 core classes out of 5. Schedule switches every 6 weeks, but he has PE, and electives and study skills, and Psych of Success. Distance learning is stretching my patience as a lot of currency gets used up on getting him to do school stuff.
Sadly DS 21 decided to leave his substance abuse program . . . we do not know where is living, or anything else about job, sobriety, etc.
Another time consuming task just completed and waiting on things to go through . . . refinance on our home! We can cut our interest rate by 1/2. Our home is also worth twice what we paid for it 10 years ago.

Thanks! There are good days and bad days with both. DS14 and I went through his drawers and removed clothing that doesn't fit etc. Put in hand-me-downs from his brother. Said to DH tonight, I will probably always have to do this for DS14 . . . because even when he's 21 or 22 developmentally he will still be 16 with no executive functioning skills.

Hello, I am looking forward to Cardtober! I have been in a card making phase for the past few months. That’s why my September numbers were so low. I will let you know about the train wreck threads on NSBR. I tend to just read and move on. I think the biggest one that I read lately was on here about Tim Holtz. I love using the words Fall or Autumn. I have at least one birthday card to make this month and I want to make some Hello and other types of cards. I have to go back and look at gramma’s Way Back Challenges. She is a doll and a wonderful person! angel97701 Huge Hugs to you. You have a lot going on. I am putting you and your family on my prayer list.

Hello - And happy fall! Yes, I am a fall person. I agree, Autumn sounds formal. In Colorado, we had a dose of winter already with a few inches of snow one day. I am happy that after the snow, it has gone back to fall. I do enjoy fall, although many of the things I love about fall are not happening so it will be a different year for sure. angel97701 - I am so sorry about all the things going on in your life. You are amazing to handle it all. I am hoping to play along with Cardtober. I did Day 1. LOL! I am not a fast card maker. But I need to get some cards done so this will be great if I can follow along. @azcrefty, I am excited to see your challenge for tomorrow. My husband has a week long hunting trip planned for this month, so that should up my productivity!

Ah, FALL it is . . . but a strange one for us as NO freeze yet. I still have flowers in my yard and baskets. My tomatoes are still in the beds, trying to ripen the fruit. BUT the irrigation water is officially done for the season. We get 4 acres of irrigation rights from April 15-Oct 15, but they stopped early this year due to low water levels.
Still more to do on the refinance, but checked those things off today. Also finished my application to our local hospital with tons of documentation for financial assistance for the joke of a visit to ER with DS!4. Sadly he was worse (suicide ideation) after we brought him home than when we took him. The leading questions of the social worker also has CPS investigate us . . . but found nothing, naturally. Just all around horrible experience in the midst of COVID hysteria.
Tonight? Is tonight I will actually craft something while DS is at practice? fingers crossed!

HUGS angel97701~ It's not enough to just be trying to navigate this path with your DS...you need to deal with finances and social systems as well? Ugh. My garden is half pulled up, but the tomatoes and carrots are still there - the tomatoes I was hoping would ripen. I will need to bring them in to ripen inside. I have NO idea why they didn't ripen this year. It was a crummy year for them. The carrots look good. OTOH, for the work I do, we could easily purchase this stuff in bulk at the local farmers markets for about the same cost...less labour... hmmm. DH was given a 6 month contract at work which has different work hours. He used to be able to drive me to work, and DD to school, before going to work. Now, I have to drive myself. No biggie, but I park 1/2 mile away from the hospital and walk from there. And it was pouring rain this morning. My system needs work. I'm well prepared for snow and ice. But rain is so much less common here! And, my scrappy plans for the month took a wrong turn yesterday when I pulled my shoulder at the gym - long head of biceps -so working with my right arm on a desk is suddenly very difficult/painful. I may have to turn into a standing scrapper to overcome! First world problems of middle age

angel97701 Hugs and prayers for you! Will the IEP alleviate some of the distance learning work for your son and you? I haven't had any scrapping done at all this month. I think I sort of burned myself out with so much from September and time isn't currently on my side. I've been so busy with school for my boys and therapies. With DH's current work schedule there hasn't been much down time for me when I'm not wiped out. But I did have some time last weekend to clean up my scrap room and purge a lot of scraps that I honestly will never use! I figure the room is ready for when I have the time and desire. I also need to edit pictures to get moving, but I don't have the desire to do that either.

(((Hugs))) and prayers angel97701 - I hope things get easier for you and your sons. kitbop - ouch - hope it heals soon. I'm doing a 2 week round with muscle relaxers for my shoulder - I don't even knopw what I did but it's been hurting since the beginning of Sept. The meds seem to be helping though. boymom5 - Good job cleaning up the spare room. How old are your boys? I'm only homeschooling D14 and it's keeping me busy from 9-2 plus planning time

Thank you everyone! I actually had some time at my craft table last night and finished a layout I start in April. Whew! Now to photograph and post it. I've also gotten back to my Bible journaling, which is super helpful for my mindset. kitbop OUCH! I'm sure you know how to care for your injury, but have you ever considered an acupuncturist? Mine have helped me with both chronic and urgent injuries. Linda too? (I'm never sure how to tag our Linda (meaning the prolific plays with challenges Linda!) boymom5 Yes, the craft room is ready when you have the time/energy . . . sometimes both of those are in short supply especially with 5 boys! Do you normally home school, or just dealing with the Distance learning for Covid? As a teacher by training (and my natural tendency) it's hard to let DS14 fail at things when I know he can do better. But his case manager says he's doing really well considering what we know about his IQ of78, trauma, and FAS spectrum diagnosis. The IEP is helping tremendously because we've really lightened his class load and realistically expect him to take more than 4 years to complete a modified diploma. Yesterday we had 84 degree weather, this morning DH said I should have gone stand up paddle boarding . . . today's high was 83, so I made a point of getting out on the water for a good 90 minutes. The water is super cold (Deschutes River is about 60). There was a slight breeze and it was absolutely lovely! I bet this is the latest date that I will ever have to SUP. I still have flowers! I still have tomatoes trying to ripen. That NEVER happens in Central Oregon in October.

Hey all. I've had students for a week now, but only 7 in class and 6 through home study. I teach adults so the physical distancing is way easier than for elementary teachers. I'm doing Layout a Day this month and I need to get my layouts up on the share thread. I've done one Cardtober card so far. It's Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend, so we're off to visit my mom,

kitbop I hope you heal up quickly! Linda My boys are 13, 11, 9, 7 and 2 Needless to say, my days are quite busy, but I typically have a bit of downtime during our mandatory quiet time in the afternoon. It gives us all a little break from the constant together time! Depending on the day we school from 9-1 and finish up projects in the afternoon. angel97701 We are long term homeschoolers. I also was a teacher prior to kids…well I ended up taking a “Break” after having my oldest and then decided not to go back. I hope the IEP alleviates the stress that goes along with learning at home. I know how tough it can be! Paddle boarding sounds fun! I hope you enjoy that time to yourself and the break! justjac What do you teach? Is it difficult having half of the class present and the other half distant learning? I’ve been wondering how that was working out in reality. So I may end up being a pokey pea this time around! I still have yet to complete a page. I have one I started yesterday, but jut slowly moving along with a very basic beginning. I’ve been doing some organizing and printing out some of my digital ephemera to use on some upcoming pages. And we’ve been enjoying some really beautiful days. The weather has warmed up here and the beautiful fall leaves are surrounding us. We’ve been hiking, went on a field trip and ran around a corn maze. Making those memories to scrap!

Good morning Divas! I wonder if some of you might join in on the Google Hangouts to scrap this afternoon? I hope to join, but we are doing our official Thanksgiving dinner tonight, and you know how much work that is First, DH and I are off to Costco, mainly for the pie! boymom5, I too am pokey, compared to last month at least. I've finished 2 layouts this month. The google hangouts REALLY help me sit down and focus, which is why I hope to join in today!

Well after one first successful scrapping event, I'm back to real life stuff like packaging up 22 cups of cut corn! My corn grew like crazy this year, the best crop I've had in 9 years. Hard to garden corn when night time temps go below 50 regularly in the High Desert. But this year we had 2 weeks of nighttime temps of over 60 and daytime of over 90. Stopped my green beans from producing, but now have a bounty of corn. After last week's rodeo trying to get the steer in the trailer . . . I've now trained them to go in with the corn. Silver lining I guess as my corn stalks won't go to waste. Now just praying the I can get an earlier butcher date than Nov 27th. Next 2 weeks would be ideal! Have more corn to harvest, shuck, and package. Thankful for my vacuum sealer! I may also do some carrots, as I've got more than a few of those too. All the spaghetti squash is finishing in the greenhouse, only 49 harvested! Enough to supply several families! Peas and lettuce growing in the greenhouse, and a few carrots have sprouted. Also have to harvest potatoes and the last of the cucumber probably sometime this week. I have 8 pages of photos laid out, now to decide on how to put them together. boymom5 Kudos for homeschooling, it is definitely a calling! You also mentioned therapy earlier . . . that takes time too! kitbop what time are you thinking? We just finished church and I need to run some errands before other stuff to be done, so maybe!

Apparently we're the quiet group this month How was your week? Mine flew. Did anyone have a crafty productive week? I am thinking I need to make a batch of thank-you cards, and start christmas cards - and if you guys know me at all you know I'm not a card maker Do you have another hobby - or habit - that distracts you from your scrapbooking? Aside from life requirements like family/cleaning/cooking I mean? I have 2 things that pull me away from scrapping: 1. the gym. We try HARD and it's not easy because it sucks I need to start scrapbooking the gym because it's been part of our life for 2 years now. My oldest DS has always gone with us. My younger DS started going with us 2 months ago. So it's a family affair! It was really hard getting back into the habit when the gyms re-opened after the 5 month covid shut down and I'm so afraid they'll shut down again even tho we're not in a hot spot. Cross your fingers for us. 2. candy crush soda. There. I said it. I am a hopeless addict. It is relaxing and easy after work and chores, and gives me an immediate sense of "peace". But it's a complete waste of time - doesn't do good for anybody or get me anywhere! And it is so addictive to my brain - "just one more try".

Hi All -
I have scrapped a little. But yesterday got a frame for my cousin for her birthday, a birthday card for my daughter, and a baby card for my new great nephew. I have discovered that after years of buying designs for my Cameo, I have a lot of cool card designs to cut out and those make for neat and really fast cards and people really like them. So that is often my go to now if I need a quick card - cut one, throw a little patterned paper on it and done.
I am tight there with you on phone games. I have a Mah Jong game I like and I too do Candy Crush. ☺️

Well real life has kept me super busy this month. Now that DS's IEP seems to be finalized, all the paperwork is in for the re-finance on the home, the garden has been the focus. It's harvest time! So I have a total 50-two cup vacuum packed cut corn processed, 14 pints of tomato sauce, quart jar of dried basil, 1/2 pint jar of Rosemary dried, and 4 tbsps of thyme dried. Also have made apple crisp and apple pancake a couple of times now. We harvested about 30 lbs of carrots and have them stored in moist sand. Harvested at least 50 lbs of potatoes today, will sort and set them out to cure tomorrow before packing for away for the winter. The greenhouse has pea plants that are 3 inches tall, some lettuce and spinach that was started outside and moved inside, and all of the unripe tomatoes. Some in boxes with bananas to help them ripen. Probably 50-60 lbs of tomatoes to ripen. Oh and I forgot 49 spaghetti squash, which I am already giving away. I still have cooked/frozen in the freezer from last year. There is still kale and a a few corn stocks left in the garden. The steer get a few corn stalks every day, the steers that were supposed to be butchered 2 weeks ago, but we couldn't get them in the trailer. Can still get one in there reliably, but the other one gets in but gets spooked and we've not even come close to trying to close the door. We have another date butcher date, but will have to start supplemental feeding soon. Fortunately the warm fall has keep the grass green in the field. The last week I've been so exhausted I've not had time to think much after diner. In fact my right hand and elbow have been over-worked to the point of tennis elbow and the beginnings of carpel tunnel syndrome symptoms. I have KT tape on both and bought a compression glove to also help it heal.
I bought a heater at Costco today for the greenhouse so we can grow longer into the fall/winter season. We may try potatoes, and with some luck green beans and cucumbers. But those may be iffy. Depends how much I want to heat the greenhouse. Also have the worm farm in there, but no worms yet. They are arriving in a week or so.
I did make a card for SIL birthday that will go live on my blog on Tuesday.
But the fun news is . . . DS14 and I will go on a little vacation next week. We had business guest Friday-Wed (well DH & they were gone Mon night up to Washington state). They are from the San Diego area. DH has business meetings in San Bernadino, and the guests suggested we come on down. Well since our big trip to go watch America's Cup in New Zealand in March 2021 was cancelled I've got a bunch of airline miles. There is even a non-stop flight between Redmond, OR and SAN! One friend offered for us to stay on his yacht, which is on a pier anchored at one end of the San Diego bay. It has 2 full staterooms, power and water plus stand up paddle boards we can use. DS can distance learn in San Diego just as well as he can at home! Plus we will do Sea World and Legoland (already have the tickets) and a few other attractions. All the attractions have limited winter hours and you must have reserved tickets. So besides the garden, cooking for guests, and planning a vacation I guess that is what has been taking up my crafting time!

angel97701 - wow wow wow, I'm exhausted for you! Your garden sounds magnificent. Miniature farm really. I'm really jealous of putting away so much food - it tastes so much nicer - but not of the work My tomatoes never ripened. Lots of hard green tomatoes, mostly stopped growing about 1/2 size. I have no idea what happened there. I picked them, but I doubt they can be ripened honestly. With the heater for the greenhouse - yeah - at what point does electricity cost you more than it would to go to the store and buy a cucumber? That's what we're always looking at in our very small limited garden. Like corn - grows better in someone else's field! Your trip sounds amazing Enjoy SO much. I hope it is relaxing as well as fun. lynnek - I too have a lot of cameo files that I've never cut. Sigh. Glad you are getting use out of yours. Who else has an electronic die cutter? Do you use it? My issue at the start was space - honestly, getting a set up with the machine and computer was hard, and that extra work involved made me not use it as much as I should. Then I had some tearing issues, and again, extra work = not used. I also found it slower to use than I expected. A manual die cut is so quick in comparison. Now it's been so long since I touched it, I'm out of practice, and I've developed other techniques (fussy cutting, manual dies) to replace it.

angel97701 - wow wow wow, I'm exhausted for you! Yes, a garden and heated greenhouse are probably MORE expensive than just buying it at the store. It's a bit of a hobby, and it always tastes so much better. DH thinks he wants a citrus tree in the greenhouse! I'm sorry your tomatoes didn't ripen. Did you stop watering? That usually helps the process along as the plant stops blooming and the set fruit will ripen better. I truly feels like a mini farm right now! But in a few weeks all the outdoor stuff will be put away (hoses, drip lines, beds covered to keep weeds out, etc.). I am also hoping to grow some potatoes in the greenhouse over the winter. Again, it is brand new to me and all experimental.
The trip should be amazing, and DS is excited which is a really good thing too! You've learned some of the drama along the way! But like kitbop, I'm out of practice and need to go and review a few new topics to get back up to speed. I also own a KNK from about 13 years ago that I've totally forgotten the ins and outs. It was designed for sign makers and I used it a lot for about 2 years, then the boys came home and time to scrap wasn't a priority ! What I do like about my ScanNCut, is the fussy cutting of stamps or images can be done relatively quickly. I've tried a few of the files I bought from the Silhouette store as the ScanNCut uses SVG files. I've also learned to weld and back titles which is fun. But I would have to be scrapping to actually have time for that. SEE ABOVE mini farm chores!
lynnek I have a ScanNCut that right as quarantine I took some online courses to learn how to use it more efficiently.

I have a Cricut Expression that I use with SCAL2 - I use it more now it's sitting out on my desk and ready to turn on but no, I still don't use it as much as I could/should. Partly because it's quicker and easier to grab stickers or pre-made diecuts and partly because for something small and quick - the QK is easier and faster (I have a hand tool and an Epic Six) - not that I use either of those as much as I could/should either.

I have a Cricut Expression that I use with SCAL2 I bought SCAL very early on in it's release and used it some, but not enough with my cricut...then got my cameo...then stopped e-cutting much at all boymom5 , ComplicatedLady , sleepingbooty , azcrafty , natscraps , nylene , lynnek , Linda , KikiPea , destined2bmom , angel97701 , CoffeeCrafter , justjac END OF THE MONTH! Wow, that was a quick and quiet affair, yes? We haven't even decided what to do about Halloween at this point - to give out treats or not? I like to reward the kiddos who are putting in the work, but we usually don't get a lot of traffic (40-50 kids) and this year will be quieter, so... If you can PM me your points totals or post them here it would be so appreciated, although I also will scan through the other points thread and look for all my team members. I haven't even looked at my layouts yet for points. I'm relying on 22 cards to help Next month...come play, even if you will be less productive! Nobody will notice your points total. Very honestly, I have NO memory of people's points from the past. I'm just happy to get to know you all a little better! Remember that virtual crops happen on Saturday/Sunday (alternates weeks) - you can drop in and maybe be encouraged to get some scrapping accomplished! We often just sit in absolute silence - no pressure to talk a lot - but the company is nice. And next month - well - there might just be a weekend crop in the works but you didn't hear it from me Double points and lots of prompts to fuel the mojo? Come play!!!
