I went to my dentist today for the first time since before March (when I was due). I put it off as long as I could but I couldn't wait any longer. Talk about a cesspool of Covid. They went over and beyond with precautions though so I was glad.
Anyone else putting off going to the dentist...other than the usual dental anxiety?

Yes. Unless I break a tooth my teeth are fine. I have never had a cavity and I am fine until it’s safe.

My dentist postponed my appointment from spring until September. They took loads of precautions, and it has now been far past the 14 days, so I didn't catch anything there.

Nope. I can't afford to put off dental visits. I felt very safe while there.
My Ds has had an orthodontal visit has been delayed now almost 8 weeks between staff exposure and his own school exposure. In the meantime, his retainer is hanging on by a thread and there is nothing we can do about it.

Nope I went as usual as did the kids. I felt very comfortable with all the safety precautions my dental office took.

No. I was more worried about a second wave so I figured I'd better go (and the kids went to) when things were really low here in CT. They took great precautions - I wasn't worried at all.

I go tomorrow to start my implant from a tooth loss due to a stupid dentist. Not happy about it but am tired of chewing with a hole. The office only has one patient at a time and everything is cleaned very well and everyone is masked. Don't like it but have to do it.

Delta Dawn, wow that is amazing! ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/JvSt42CUoZ9LG952aAaF.jpg) Now that I think about it though my 40 year old son has never had a cavity either. I did some special treatment when he was young to prevent cavities. He is adopted so he didn't inherit either his Dad's or my bad teeth. Interesting though he did inherit "shark's teeth" from his birth parents. After he had braces to fill in the gaps, he needed laminates to cover his super small, sharp, pointy incisors.

My dentist is great and I knew I wouldn't have any problems going in. There were only 2 patients and we were in different areas. Everyone was masked up. She actually shut down for about six weeks and did some remodeling. I went in shortly after they opened. It was fine. I don't know what it is called, fluoride treatment? It's the flavored stuff at the end. They are not allowed to do that since it is a spinning thing that could go all over. Actually my favorite part. lol.. I LOVE my dentist.. Been going to her for almost 20 years.
She is my age and very professional but still I feel like she could be my bff or good friend that lives next door to me. In fact, me, her and the dental hygienist were all pregnant at the exact same time. I had my baby in May, hers was in June and my hygienist was in July. It was funny!! No anxiety at all unless she is doing some kind of major work, but even that I don't worry too much.

I had a stupid dentist too and he's one of the reasons why my teeth got so messed up and why I should never miss a cleaning. I did because of the pandemic and paid for it at my next appointment. Hope your appointment goes well. I have had a wonderful dentist for about 20 years now and I felt completely safe with all the measures they take in office and even before the appointments. I missed having magazines to read while in the waiting room. I know... FWP, but they had a good selection. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) At least there was barely a wait time.

I went in August and it was beyond safe. We cannot not, should not ignore our health during these times.

I had to have an emergency root canal during the height of the pandemic in my area back in April. It took multiple appointments to complete and then to see my regular dentist to have a new crown put on. I was thankful they were open for me to get treatment and they took every safety precaution possible.
The cases by me are very low right now and I have no problem going to regular check up appointments and cleanings, in fact I have. I also went to all my yearly doctor checkups, just had a psychical and blood work. I plan to make an eye doctor appoint in a few weeks.
If the cases in your area have gone down significantly there is no reason to put off your annual dental, optical or medical exams.

I just went to the oral surgeon for the start of implants (also thinking it was because of my dentist!) and felt safe there, too.

I had a temporary crown placed right before the shutdown in March. I actually think it was March 13. I just went in last week to have the permanent one placed. I had my cleaning done too since I hadn't had that done since March also. I was talking to all the hygienists who worked on me asking about how they all have been. It sounded like they are all staying healthy and not spreading anything within the practice.
I still need to have my eyes checked and my haircut. I'll wait on the haircut.

I have an appointment in the next week or two. It's been postponed twice now. I'll likely do it again and maybe try for right after Thanksgiving. Sigh. I don't know.
It's a big exposure for you as you're not masked. It makes me nervous, even though I know they are doing all the cleaning and safely procedures.
I may just hold out until next year, even though I should get a teeth cleaning this year. We'll see.

My boys and I had our regular dental checkups in June (would have been May, but I had a fever for in the couple of days before our appointment so we had to postpone for 2 weeks.) They wore PPE, we wore our masks...we all survived. Since then DS15 has been to see an orthodontist and an oral surgeon (a 12 year molar hasn't dropped, the orthodontist suggested removing his wisdom teeth to help make room for the tooth to come down). They wore PPE, we wore our masks...we all survived. He's scheduled to have his wisdom teeth taken out at the end of October. They'll wear their PPE, we'll wear our masks...

I, too, needed a root canal, and went multiple times for that, as well as my biannual cleaning which was delayed about 6 months. I felt safe and protected. If anything, the dentist and staff are more at risk, since patients aren't masked during exams and procedures.

I have a friend who is a dental hygienist. She was supposed to report back to work in April or May and refused to go back because of the danger. Her patients wear a mask until it's time to clean the teeth or get in the mouth and then everything in there becomes aerosolized and floats through the air to the hygienist and other patients. She got fired for not returning and she understood why. I just asked her if it's okay to go back. She said to go but make it the first appointment is the day and get the heck out when it's over.

Sorry about your tooth loss. I just got my crown placed on my implant today. Good luck at your appointment - it will be worth it!

Right before shut down, I had a crown that I thought had broke at the build up where they attach the crown. It was loose, no pain, so I didn't make an appointment right away, then of course they were shut down for awhile. A few weeks ago, I finally said I needed to get it take care of. It didn't break at the build up, but the tooth cracked all the way down my root. No saving it. Had to have it pulled and a bridge put in. I was pretty happy with all the precautions they took. Also got teeth cleaned. Son and grandson still have the hibiby-jibies about going.

Nope. I've been twice since they've opened back up, and DS has gone a few times as well. I get my teeth cleaned 4x a year since that's what my insurance covers, so i will never skip out on that. My dentist office takes safety precautions very seriously (no one waiting in the lobby, temp checks, double masks, etc). I feel safer there than most places I have to go.

I lost a filling so had to go; wasn’t sure if any of the tooth was damaged or not until they could examine it and take an x-ray. My dentist just did temporary cement (what they use to attach a crown) for now because I had a total knee replacement In July and I’m supposed to avoid any dental work, even a cleaning, for six months after, and then I have to have antibiotics right before and after.
I had to wait outside until they came to get me, there were no chairs in the waiting room at all and I made the appointment for January through the dentist so I didn’t even talk directly to the people at the desk.
Honestly, I was more concerned about the risk of an infection that could go to my knee implants than I was about Covid.

I went right before Covid started but haven’t gone back since. Not sure if I will. I brush my teeth multiple times per day, floss every day and use ACT mouthwash. I recently got an electric toothbrush too so I think I should be okay!
One of my kids was scheduled for an annual cleaning over the summer and went to that! I felt like the dental office took good precautions. The same kid also had an orthodontist visit which also went well. My husband and another kid are scheduled to go later this month (neither of them have gotten a cleaning this year because their appointments were scheduled during a time when the dental office was closed due to Covid.) Hopefully case numbers will stay low here so they can go.

I went in August. My February appointment had been canceled, so this was when they could get me in after re-opening. I felt very safe. They have the most stringent of Covid protocols that I've seen. Temps and hand sanitizing upon entry, masks worn until they need you to open your mouth. They wear masks and face shields. They aren't doing the same cleaning procedures. They are hand scaling instead of ultra sonic scaling, and they put that nasty smelling/tasting antibacterial crap from way back when I was a kid. (I can't remember the name, but boy was it memory trip when she used it LOL). So I'm good with going back if I should need to. My next appointment for a cleaning isn't until Feb, so who knows what the protocols will be by then.

I postponed my cleaning and exam until I could get the first appointment in the morning. I felt safer about that, since they hadn't run through a bunch of people in the small room.
I was very impressed with their procedures.

I was in the middle of a dental implant when covid hit. Since offices have opened up, I have been to the oral surgeon twice and my dentist 3 times. Although I've used that oral surgeon for two implants, I won't be going back. On my last visit, I had to remind him twice to put his mask up. He was going between 2 rooms and every time he came into mine, his mask was down.
My dentist's office is amazing. You fill out covid forms online and call or text when you arrive. When it's time to come in, they text you, meet you at the door, take your temperature and put you in a room. The hygienist wears a hair covering, mask and face shield along with her normal scrubs. You are asked to rinse with a mouthwash. There is a portable air purifier-thing running in each room. She is still doing the ultrasonic cleaning but this last time there was a second suction tube in my mouth to suck out the debris.
My dentist wears the same protective equipment and has the same air purifier.
I was initially freaked out about going to my dentist but I'm very comfortable about the procedures they've put in place. I think it's much safer/cleaner than my GP's office.

I was supposed to get my teeth cleaned in March, but everything shut down for COVID. I was rescheduled for May, which I did go to. The dentist had OTT precautions so I wasn't worried at all.

DD and I had appointments in February and weren’t due to go back until August when we had appointments previously scheduled. They had to adjust the times a bit to accommodate additional cleaning and sanitizing between patients but I figured it would be fine since we are usually in and out in less than 30 minutes and our appointments were scheduled concurrently. Unlike the two plus hours we’d have to spend at the eye doctor.
