I LOVE FRANGO MINTS! Oh dear, am I yelling?!😜
Off to be, yet again, enabled by a pea! Thank you so very much.
ETA: I ended up sending advent calendars to my mom and my 4 siblings. I am so freaking nice!

I too love Frango Mints!! So, are they from Seattle or Chicago? I had a long discussion once with a friend who was from Seattle. Of course to him, Seattle is best. Lol!

Chicago! All the way! Thinking about getting this for my mom who introduced me to Frangos and always gets advent calendars for my kids. I've got a sister! My mom grew up in Chicago and introduced us to Frango Mints from Marshall Fields and every year she sends out advent calendars to the grands and greatgrands. That is why I decided to send to my mom and sibs.

Frangos originated at Frederick and Nelson in Seattle. Marshall Fields bought Frederick and Nelson then started selling them at Marshall Fields as well.
Thanks for the link! This will be a good gift for several people on my list!

The advent calendar is the fake Frangos, right? One of the things I miss most about no longer living in the PacNW is real Frangos. The Moka are my favorite and they sell out early every years so by the time we go home for Christmas they were sold out. The in-laws will send us other types, but shop too late to get the Moka and my DH's favorite Raspberry.

Thank you, I just ordered one as a gift, and a box of the candy cane Frangos for moi I worked for a holiday season in the designer wear dept at F&N in (I think) 87. Maybe 88. While I had many years of experience in retail (sales and Mgmt), it was my one and only foray into selling women’s clothing and was not something I enjoyed at all.

Oh my gosh, I forgot about the ice cream shop! My grandma never learned to drive but she and I would take the bus from Tacoma and get ice cream there. Off to place an order. I miss F&N!

I remember Frango mints used to come in those round cardboard containers, and were individually wrapped. Was that a FN or Marshall Fields container? Or both?

[ I don't know about Chicago but the real Frango Candies (stick out tongue emoji) came in a hexagonal or octagonal box for sure. The Dilletante chocolates they sell at Costco are very similar to the F and N Frangos. They also taste a lot like the old Van Duyn mint candies, although those were a different shape.

I discovered them on a business trip to Chicago in the late 70's. The Drake Hotel where I was staying put one on my pillow. OMG. I immediately went to Marshall Fields to buy a box. After I got back to Louisiana, I ate one a day. So sinfully delicious!

I remember every christmas we got a box of mint frangos in the round box to share--along with aplets and cotlets. a seattle christmas.. along with a small box of imported from japan satsuma mandarin oranges. my dad worked downtown and got them for us. we usually went downtown to see the windows of fredrick and nelsons.. they had animated figures in the windows.. once in a while we saw santa claus.
because my parents moved from the midwest, and grew up in the depression.. our stockings were an apple, an orange, a candy cane. and maybe something small. after breakfast, we got the frango mints. then we opened presents.

Those of you who think of Frangos as being iconic to Chicago are not exactly wrong, they’ve been sold at Marshall Field’s since 1929. However, they originated in Seattle in 1918 at Frederick and Nelson and have been sold in Seattle ever since so they are very much iconic to Seattle. I don’t see any reason we can’t share that title though.

OMG, Frangos, I worked with a gal from Chicago and she always brought some back when she went home. Sigh.
