I’m somewhat ummmm... paranoid? Anal? About keeping my phone charged up — anything below 90% and I’m uneasy.
But my phone counts my steps, and of course I want credit for every damn step I take.
So you see the issue. I can’t get steps if my phone is charging. And I can’t charge while walking. Unless I walk in tiny circles the radius of my charge cord.
Forget the pandemic. Think about my suffering. 😏

You shouldn’t keep plugging your phone in if it is that charged. Let the battery drain! I don’t even start to worry until I get to 10%.

charge while sleeping. I plug my phone in by my bed when I go to sleep. I don't walk in my sleep so there are no steps to be counted

Get thee a portable charger. This. I often forget to charge my phone up and then am at 5% when I need to take my 2 mile morning walk with the dogs. I simply grab a portable charger, plug my phone in, and put them both in my pocket.

For the first time in a long time, my phone battery died completely while I was watching TV with DH last night. I have an apple watch, so no steps issue...but it was strange watching TV without the phone in my hand.
Normally, I charge while I'm sleeping and it's fine for the entire day...however I listed to podcasts on my Bluetooth headphones all day yesterday and it drained it faster than normal.

You need to let the battery run down! If you keep it charged all the time you can swell the battery.

I thought that it was bad for the batteries to not let them run down most of the way before recharging? Make them lose some recharging power? Agree with those that say charge primarily while you’re sleeping and get a portable charger. Anker brand is awesome, we use their chargers, their portable chargers (like this one) and cords (double braided nylon, have yet to replace one).

You sound like a prime candidate for an Apple Watch or a FitBit. I have the same problem with those though - I want them to monitor my sleep and count my steps, but when am I going to charge?
I charge my phone while sitting or working and take the phone with me anytime I walk around.

You are ruining the battery by charging it when it hits 90%...

You are ruining your phone’s battery by plugging it in so much.
