We did an "IT" movie type them with an "IT" pumpkin and a "Beware Pumpkin", tied full size candy bars on ribbon that were attached to red helium balloons and made a sign with our sandwich chalkboard so kids would know what to do. We put the balloons around the front yard in smallish groupings near the sidewalk, put a Halloween playlist on our bluetooth speaker and sat on the porch to greet people from afar.
It took a while to get DH on board with the plan, but lots of people took photos, so I think it went well. We actually had more ToTers than usual, likely because the library down the street was having a Trunk or Treat event.

We did not.
For the first time ever, lights were out & no candy offered.
My kids also didn't TOT for the first time.
We had a household members only Halloween party instead.

I was going to use tongs to give out the candy and wear a mask, but we didn't have a single person come by. More chocolate for us!

No, our little neighborhood didn't do that this year. There were some planned events in town for kids, I guess more socially distant candy and goodie bag giveaways.

We put a big bowl of candy on our porch. We had about 40 ToTers, which is a pretty good turnout. We have the Ring doorbell, which DH loved. He'd talk to the kids and beg them to take more candy every time. We overbought. They were helpful.

For the first time ever, we turned out the lights. I really don't think we would have had many kids at all. Pretty much our whole street was dark.
Lots of businesses were doing drive-by events all week.

We didn't for the first time ever. Since all the neighborhood kids have grown up, the number of trick or treaters has dwindled. After dark, I looked outside and there were no lights on at any of the neighbors that I can see from my house...so everyone was thinking the same thing.
I saw on the facebook town page that people were posting where there were people leaving treats out. And the girl scouts also did some kind of trick or treat bucket that they were giving out too.

Our neighbours blocked off the street and had a huge block party. We gave a box of chips to our next-door neighbours earlier in the day and shut off our lights.

We live in a secluded country location, so have not given out candy for some time now. But I'm glad I didn't have to make the decision this year! On FB I've seen some pretty inventive methods people used, though. Hope everyone stayed safe and had some fun.

I made bags of candy for my kid's friends and left in mailboxes (let the families know they were from us!) I didn't want to answer the door last night to a bunch of random people and I was worried if I left candy outside, one kid would come along and take all of it. At least this way, I brightened the day of a bunch of kids!

I made up candy bags. I set up a table in front of our porch steps and set a half dozen or so on the table at a time, refilling as needed. Dh and I sat up on the porch.
ETA I had no idea how many to make up. We usually get around 50-60 kids. I had bought enough candy for fifty three bags so that's what I put out. However when we turned off the lights and went it, we still had a good many more kids going around the neighborhood. I should have bought a lot more. Apparently being on a Saturday definitely increased the numbers (and COVID didn't stop them around here).

Yep we did! We bought a rain gutter, decorated it with lights and put it against a ladder. We decorated the ladder with Halloween decor and when the kids came by, we shot the candy down the gutter into a bucket. Easy and cute!

Nobody was home at our house. I set up a table on the porch with a candy bowl. I added a sign that said “wish we were here to see your awesome costume! Enjoy some candy and leave some for others.”
Logan and his friends went trick or treating and then I took them bowling where ds22 works. We didn’t expect it but the manager let them all bowl for free. Nice bonus!

We gave out our usual candy, full size Hershey bars with DH’s advertising on them. I put a 6’ folding table at the top of the steps to our porch with big plastic lighted pumpkins on either side to keep the kids from coming to the door. I stuck yellow tape on top spelling out WAIT HERE! and moved one of our security cameras so it would go off when motion was detected coming up to the table. As kids came up, I could see how many there were and I could mask up, come out and put the candy bars on the table and back away. We had about 2/3 as many kids as we normally have.
I also got a second baby gate so I could block the dogs away from the front door. OMG, I should have done that eight years ago! It was so much less stressful not having the dogs charge the door going all ballistic every time someone came up the walk. Even having the kids wait away from the door was so much better because the couldn’t crowd around the door making it hard to open to even get out to give them the stuff. I think I’m going to do the table thing every year from now on.
My DD went ToTing with some of the neighbor kids on our hay wagon. She wore her mask all night. About half of them were masked up, the others didn’t end up that way. 🤪 I hope that since it was very windy out there was less risk. We were so disheartened to hear from DD and her one friend that some of the kids in our group would race up to the houses and if there was a bowl of candy unattended, the first 2-3 kids (some bigger neighborhood boys) would empty out the bowl into their bags leaving none for the other kids in our group (some of whom were littler kids) or for any other kids who might come along later. 😦 😳 😤
DH was driving the four wheeler pulling the trailer, and due to social distancing none of the other parents went on the trailer itself so the kids could space themselves apart more so DH didn’t know what was going on until we got back and the girls told him. Needless to say, a few phone calls were made to the other parents. DH didn’t know which kids were the culprits because DD was almost always at the back of the pack with the other girls helping the smaller kids so she didn’t see exactly who was doing it, but by the time they would get up to the house there was no candy left in the bowl. Didn’t take long before the other kids ratted out the sneaky candy thieves, and surprise surprise (NOT!), it was the ones from the private school regular church going family. WTF. So much for all those “good Christian values” they’re paying a bundle for their kids to allegedly learn.
The mom of the candy raiders said that there would be some redistribution of candy to the other kids in the group the next day, but DH said that really wasn’t the point. The point that needed to be pounded home harder with those kids was that it was rude and wrong to take it all leaving none for the groups of kids that came along later.
We decided that next year (assuming Covid isn’t an issue) DD can have a party with just her actual school friends and they will be the ones she ToTs with on the trailer. Her actual friends are so much more respectful. The neighborhood kids are effectively uninvited after this. It’s sad that a couple bad apples always have to spoil things for everyone.

I’m absolutely blown away at the creativity people had at giving out candy this year.

We gave out candy to about 100 kids last night. Most kids had masks on and my dh had a 3d printed Darth Vader mask that he bought from Etsy specifically for Halloween. Darth Vader gloves every time to hand out candy.
We had a lot less kids than we usually do, but then the town I'm in cancelled Trunk or Treat and the biggest church cancelled their trick or treating. A lot of families decided to stay home.

I made about 70 individual bags and put them on a table at the end of the walkway. All were gone a little after 7:00 PM so I just dumped some leftover candy on the table at that point. I was outside greeting the kids at first but it was pretty chilly so I went inside and checked periodically. Around 7:20 I noticed that there were 4 kids but only 2 mini bags of Skittles on the table, so I went outside and gave them each a huge handful of candy from my remaining stash and then turned off the lights.

You can’t see our house from the street, so we never get trick-or-treaters. It’s too bad—we could make this weird house look really spooky.
Our neighborhood put out an electronic map with houses that would be giving candy in socially-distanced ways. Som had candy chutes; some had buckets they would drop down from a balcony; some pinned candy to bushes; some set treat bags out on steps. One guy was tossing bags of candy into the kids’ buckets and sacks from ten feet away. It all went well, and the kids were really happy—I’d warned them that there might be nothing this year, so it was a really nice surprise that there was trick-or-treating.

We set up a table at the end of our walkway and put candy out. We had probably 80 or so trick Or treaters. I refilled as needed.
