My birthday is tomorrow and I feel like I would like to splurge (i.e. not the free books that I have been reading on my tablet lately) on a good book or two. What have you read lately that is a good page-turner, never-want-to-put down book? I have been reading quite a bit of romance lately, but I love a good mystery, too. I have always loved John Grisham's books, but I haven't read any of his newer ones. Gone Girl was a page-turner for me. I have read all the Harry Potter books and Hunger Games, which I loved. I like Nicholas Sparks, but they are too simple and predictable for what I want right now.
It seems whenever these threads come up, I always make lists, but then I can never find them again. So, based on the above, what are some suggestions for me?
Thanks!

I still think about Code Name Verity. I read it last summer. Chevy Stevens is great at writing intense, page turning stories. Still Missing is another one I read while ago and still think about.

You seem to like YA, so maybe Fault in Our Stars? I loved that one.

Any of the psychological thrillers by Sophie Hannah. Gripping and intriguing.

If you are looking for humorous books, the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich is great.
I've also liked Mary Kay Andrews, Jennifer Weiner, Sophie Kinsella and the like.
Good thread. I need to pick up a good tablet book!

One of my favorite books I have read recently is 'The Secret Keeper' by Kate Morton. It is wonderful!
I read a few others by her and they are great as well!

Where'd You Go, Bernadette was a real page turner for me. Family drama and a little bit of mystery rolled into one.

I have enjoyed the Jack Reacher series. I've read them all. So very disappointed when Tom Cruise was selected to play Reacher - didn't see the movie because of it. Just didn't work for me

A friend recommended "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes. Said she couldn't put it down and neither could I. Interesting story, leaves you with something to think about.

I thought the last two Grisham books I read were some of his best.
I don't know how I missed it because it's a bit older, and I usually read everything he writes, but The Litigators was really fun. It has some great humor in it, which makes it a little different than his usual. I also loved Sycamore Row. Wonderful ending!
Like another pea said, loved Eleanor & Park. Very sweet. I also really liked The One and Only Ivan, another YA book, or even younger.
Water for Elephants is just beautiful. I loved the writing and the story in both that and in The Light Between Oceans.
And for another fantastic mystery that you cannot. put. down, try Natchez Burning, by Greg Iles. Very well-written, beautiful descriptions and wonderful, albeit difficult, plot.
Happy reading!
Oh, and happy birthday!
Lisa

Never Look Away by Linwood Barclay. It is a suspenseful book, and like Gone Girl, an ending you'd never expect.

You seem to like YA, so maybe Fault in Our Stars? I loved that one. I've blown through "Legend" over the last 24 hours - if you like YA you will love this. And my DD is reading "the maze runner". We will be trading soon. If you like thrillers that are really fast paced, Preston & Child have a great series - agent Pendergast is the main character.

Homefront by Kristen Hannah.
Unfortunately, I haven't read enough real page-turners this year, yet.

I know that both of these books are older because my Mom has had them for a while and I borrowed them from her, but Are You Afraid of the Dark by Sidney Sheldon and Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts were both excellent books. I read the first one in a day because I couldn't bear to put it down!

A friend recommended "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes. Said she couldn't put it down and neither could I. Interesting story, leaves you with something to think about. I second reading this if you have not already. I enjoyed Domestic Violets by Matthew Norman, Girl In Translation by Jean Kwok, Breaking Night by Liz Murray, and Stories I Only Tell My Friends by Rob Lowe. I also like the old Jen Lancaster books. None of these are action/ mystery/thriller books however. For me, a page turner is just a book I can't wait to get back to reading.

I just started read Fourth of July Creek and it is pretty engaging so far.
I just finished The Flight of the Silvers. I LOVED it, but not sure all 600 pages are for everyone. Another long engaging read was 11/22/63. Or if you haven't read A Discovery of Witches or the YA series a starting with Cinder---I recommend those too.
