Outlander by Diana Gabaldon - I couldn't put this book down. It's hard to describe what exactly it is. Maybe romance, sci-fi (time travel), historical fiction, drama, and adventure.

Another favorite author is Liane Moriaty. What Alice Forgot and The Husbands Secret were fantastic. I love her writing. Highly recommend! I agree. I love everything I've read by Liane Moriarty. She has a new book coming out soon, I've already pre-ordered because she does not disappoint. I'm another fan of Wonder, recommend this one over and over again and everybody I know has raved about this book. I also just just recently finished Unbroken and that story is still with me. I actually hope the story always stays with me, it is remarkable.

Here's my suggestions: The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simison
Orphan Train by Christina Baker Cline
Save the Date by Mary Kay Andrews
i read a LOT, and all of these books I tore through in less than two days. I also really liked Mrs. Mercedes by Stephen King and The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan. These two are pretty long but they are both great...could NOT stop reading them!
MR. Mercedes

The Thirteenth Tale Pillars of the Earth-Ken Follett The Kitchen House-Kathleen Grissom Outlander series by Dina Gabaldon. From talking to others that have read the series, I've found you either really like it or you don't Blue Asylum-Kathy Hepinstall

I have another one to add (sorry if it's been mentioned already). Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was excellent. I'm getting book 2 this weekend and can't wait.

I didn't read all the replies so I apologize if this has already been listed, but Alice Clayton "The Unidentified Redhead" trio are awesome books! Funny and easy read.
The Fault in Our Stars is another good one.

I'm in the middle of this one and didn't want to add it to my list without finishing. Good to know someone else likes it!

I recently finished Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, and although I wanted to see how it would end, I didn't want to finish it. I really was invested in the characters (most of them, anyway). I enjoy books with interesting and varied characters. The plot of this book was different and perhaps a bit unusual--give it a try.

I agree with Lianne Moriarty's books. I read The Husband's Secret first and was so surprised by the secret that I immediately told two of my friends that they had to read this book. My 2nd favourite of hers is What Alice Forgot.
I tried Jojo Moyes' books after hearing about them from people here and I really enjoy her books.
Someone else whose style is very interesting to read is Kate Atkinson in her Jackson Brodie books. Another of her books, Life after Life is very different.
I have liked Susanna Kearsley for years.
If you like historical fiction based on real characters, try Sharon Kay Penman. She writes about English monarchy mainly, but my favourites are the trilogy about Wales,Here Be Dragons, Falls the Shadow & The Reckoning. It starts with King John's illegitimate daughter who marries the Great Llewelyn, Prince of Wales. The other two books in the trilogy deal with her family. I also like the author's book about King Richard II The Sunne in Splendour.
I also agree with a previous poster about Tana French. I enjoyed her books and was sorry to have finished them all.

It's going to be a hard movie to watch, I'm sure Angelina Jolie will do the story justice.

You seem to like YA, so maybe Fault in Our Stars? I loved that one. I've blown through "Legend" over the last 24 hours - if you like YA you will love this. And my DD is reading "the maze runner". We will be trading soon. If you like thrillers that are really fast paced, Preston & Child have a great series - agent Pendergast is the main character. I agree, the Preston & Child books are great!! And if you like mysteries, I really love Devil in the White City, it's a non-fiction book, but reads like thriller.

Another vote for Sharon Kay Penman. The Sunne in Splendour was one of my favorites, along with the trilogy of When Christ and His Saints Slept, Time and Chance, and Devil's Brood, the story of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II.

Another vote for The Fault in our Stars. I read it in one day, so did my daughter. If you liked Gone Girl, I'd also recommend Dark Places, it was my favorite of hers. I love the "In Death" books by J.D Robb also. If you've got some time to invest, the Game of Thrones books are awesome.

Another long engaging read was 11/22/63. Once I got going in this book, I absolutely could not put it down! I recommend an ereader for it, it's huge. According to my Kindle, I'm 77% into this. It's taken me awhile to get into it, but now I really want to know how it ends. Melanie
