what are you doing this year?
We typically go to my brother's in Atlanta, and we love it. It has become my favorite holiday, honestly. My brother's partner has a large family who always come in from all over, the house is full, the liquor flows, everyone is a great cook and the food is all delicious. We have mimosas on Thanksgiving morning. It's so fun. The weather is always nice (well, nicer than where I live in Missouri!) We spend a lot of time outdoors, playing goofy games at night in our pjs, sitting around their fire pit at night, and just generally enjoying each other's company.
We aren't doing that this year. My brother lost his job thanks to Covid and has a new one, but he has to work on Thanksgiving and all weekend. His partner is spending the weekend with his elderly father in Florida. We wouldn't have gone this year anyway, but I am feeling in a funk about it.
I am sad that we are missing our fun weekend. I am making dinner for just us--my husband and 3 kids. We are going to get up early in the morning and go hiking, then come home and make our dinner. I let each person pick one thing they want, so it's not a huge feast like normal, but I think it will be nice anyway. Just different than usual.
What are your low-key plans for tomorrow?

DH and I are staying home by ourselves — and the dogs. It feels so wrong but I am actually looking forward to it. I have an 11lb turkey, and will make some sides.

My husband and one of my kids want ham, other kids and me want turkey, so I bought a small ham and a small turkey breast. Potato casserole, apple pie, and deviled eggs will complete our meal.

It will be my Dh and I. We’re still making the traditional meal because he loves it, but it’s just us. Normally his Mom is in our bubble, but we’ve both been a little sniffly over the past few days so she’s staying home. DH will drop her off some some leftovers in her foyer.
Usually my SIL and niece come and stay the full 4 days and we play games, watch movies and snack. So I’m kind of sad they can’t be here. But hopefully next year we’ll be back to normal.
Sorry you’re missing your gathering!

Such a crappy year, but trying to make the best of it. We generally have 28-30 people for Thanksgiving, but this time just our family. The weather is supposed to be fantastic, so we are doing everything outside and turning it into a game day. We'll go inside in shifts to get food and spread out outside. There is plenty of room out here and we have two tvs so the rest of the day will be spent watching football and playing games. We've set up chess, checkers, backgammon, jumbo Jenga, jumbo Connect4 and Uno. Football, basketball, and pickleball for those that have any energy after eating.
I hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving...even with all the craziness, there is still much to be thankful for.

We had planned on a smaller version of the traditional thanksgiving here with just the in-laws (my family is far too big to consider safe so we bowed out of that). Bought the turkey and all the fixings the other day. Today we buried my 42yo brother in law and dh decided he just can’t do thanksgiving. So we stopped and picked up a prime rib, mil/fil might come over if they’re up for it but most likely it’ll just be the 4 of us.

We usually go to my sister's to celebrate with her and her boyfriend's family (not huge usually 7-10 people), but this year it's just us and the pups and a nice big turkey for lots of leftovers! We'll make our favorite sides and stuffing and I've got two pies (not sure it's enough) - a sweet potato pie and a cranberry lemon tart. Most of this is already cooked and ready to go. It's supposed to rain all day and we are really looking forward to relaxing, watching the Macy's "parade" and some movies and generally just relaxing.
I hope you all have a good holiday no matter how you are spending it. It's good to be alive and be with the ones we love in any way we can.

We go to my parents and my brother and his family and my sister and her family also come.
This year is just the 4 of us. I am fixing a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, candied yams, green beans, homemade cranberry sauce, and 2 pies that I just made.

We usually go to my Mom's and there are several aunts and uncles there. This year we're staying home with just the 4 of us. I ordered a full thanksgiving dinner from Cracker Barrel so I don't have to spend the day cooking. The meal feeds 8-10 and one DS will only eat rolls, so we'll have lots of leftovers.
I'm looking forward to making stuffing waffles with our tons of leftover stuffing.
We also usually eat holiday meals at 2pm. I'm thinking we're going to eat at dinner time instead.

This was going to be a different Thanksgiving anyway because DS was not going to come home from school so he wouldn't have to quarantine for the last two weeks of the semester. DD is finished with her semester and was supposed to come home today. It was just supposed to be the three of us and my Dad.
I bought a smaller turkey, a small presliced ham, made two types of dressing, and had gotten all of the groceries bought (potatoes, sweet potatoes, veggies etc), desserts were planned for the four of us.
DH got positive Covid test results this morning and Givin my symptoms I am expecting positive results tomorrow or Friday.
So DD is staying put for the next 10 days to two weeks and Dad is now stuck eating lukewarm food out of a Styrofoam box in his Independent living apartment. So DH and I are together with two refrigerators of food and I can't taste any of it.
DH is insisting on cooking the turkey and ham since he had already gotten it out to thaw. So we will be eating turkey and ham sandwiches with chips and French onion dip. I mixed up some chocolate chip cookies the other day and portioned out the dough. I refuse to make a really fantastic dessert that I can't enjoy.
I am just going to focus on being thankful that even though we are not all around the same table we are still mostly healthy and will be able to be together soon.

We’re all staying home this year. Usually it would be family near and far, in-laws, with a couple of aunts and uncles thrown in.
But we (son, daughter and Grands) are doing dessert together via 3-way Portal along with jokes, skits or whatever the Grands come up with. With Portal on 65” inch TV it’s like being there!

We normally have a small Thanksgiving anyway, but this year it's just me, dh, and dd. Dd and I do not like turkey so I suggested Cornish game hens. Costco sells a 4-pack and my dad used to make them, so I've always wanted to try them. Dd wants to make a baked brie which we've never made before. Dh's non-negotiable is stuffing so we'll have that. And gravy. And cranberry sauce. And air fried bacon brussels sprouts. And pie of course. But... I told dd that I might not be able to find the game hens and she said "oh mom, just get a rotisserie chicken then! I love those!" I said I'd get that if Costco was out of the game hens. True confession....I went to Costco this morning and didn't even look for the game hens. I went straight to the rotisserie chickens, grabbed two, and never looked back. We just won't tell my family. I hate to cook and just didn't feel like bringing home frozen birds, thawing them, finding a recipe, cooking them... ugh. SO MUCH easier to do rotisserie chicken. And it gives me lots of leftovers (which is why I bought two), so I'll freeze the leftover meat for later, and make broth from the carcasses.

It's usually me, dd and dh and we go to my parent's house and my sister and nephew are also there. This year the three of us will stay home and I'm cooking the full meal. We all like different parts of it so I'm making it all. Then we'll just hang out together. Maybe watch some Christmas movies. It will be nice though. My mom did stop by earlier to drop off some of her apple pie. And bring me a plant. We chatted on the porch for about four or five minutes (masked). It was good to see her.

Dh has to work. Both my boys will be home. My mom was pouty and throwing a fit, so we will be having them and my brother's family over. All of brother family has antibodies except maybe sil who had a positive test early in the month but is now negative.
Db family and my family will wear masks. My parents think it is no big deal because they only see us...and the people at the store...and oh by the way ds and I are both in school in person at DIFFERENT schools.
That is NOT a small bubble.
But if I hadn't hosted with my larger open concept house, she would have had my brother's family and my aunt and uncle over in their impossible to distance house. (Aunt and uncle will not be at my house)
Just praying we make it through to new year's. I know my mother will insist on Christmas eve, even though her and my dad are high risk.

We usually have family from one or both sides here, but we’re just doing the household. My college student isn’t permitted to leave campus. I was very disappointed to find out that my BIL, who is in a high-risk job, is hosting both sets of his elderly parents/ parents in law at his house :/.
I am disappointed only because my father has terminal cancer and this is likely his last chance for thanksgiving. Our state numbers have gone up, and state guidelines are not to host family; my mother is 77 and does not have terminal cancer, and I want her to be around for many years to come. I am having my parents swing by outside to pick up boxes of dinner.

Tomorrow DDs and their families are at home, Sister and her family are staying home and she is taking my mother a plate. 3 of us are recovering from Covid - DH and I will be out of quarantine on Saturday, DD who had COVID now has pneumonia. I am just thankful that DH was only in the hospital for 5 days and he feels soo much better. We are missing our girls Black Friday shopping and there is not a darn thing to be done about it. I have finished 95% of my shopping anyway, it's just fun. We generally spend Thursday afternoon scouring the ads and planning our strategy. I will be watching the parade while preparing our lunch and then watching the dog show. WE ARE THANKFUL.

I lost my father on Thanksgiving day 22 years ago and my dear niece the following year one day later. It really put a damper on the holidays for several years.
