We usually have family from one or both sides here, but we’re just doing the household. My college student isn’t permitted to leave campus. I was very disappointed to find out that my BIL, who is in a high-risk job, is hosting both sets of his elderly parents/ parents in law at his house :/. I am disappointed only because my father has terminal cancer and this is likely his last chance for thanksgiving. Our state numbers have gone up, and state guidelines are not to host family; my mother is 77 and does not have terminal cancer, and I want her to be around for many years to come. I am having my parents swing by outside to pick up boxes of dinner. I'm sorry that you can't spend the day with them. I hope you have a nice quick visit though.

I am nervous about it. She is in the midst of student teaching, but there haven't been any Covid cases at her school, so I hope it will be okay. She needed a break, and I couldn't tell her not to come home. This all sucks!

We're going to my DD and DSIL's place. It's her first time doing a turkey. They're in our bubble and see them all the time. Usually my parents (now just my mom) and my brother's family get together as well. My mom will be alone and my brother's family is staying home by themselves. We're all zooming in the evening.

We never have huge Thanksgiving get togethers...not since I was a young teen. It's always just been my immediate family. Tomorrow will not be much different. We--mom and I--will go to my cousin's house where there will be 6 of us. I am not worried. We need to be together as tomorrow is the first big "First" since my dad died. He was like a dad to my cousin and we usually spend Thanksgiving there with them.

We are alone, just my husband and I. All kids are staying put as well, and my mom - who can't stay out of the casino - is also on her own at her house. I usually have over 30 people. Thanksgiving is MY holiday and I love the hustle and cooking and gathering and crowd of people. I'm so depressed about it that I packed up my DH and my roasting chickens and we headed to the lake house. If I can't have people, I will have absolute solitude.
I'm good with it this year, but . . . . .

We normally have a small Thanksgiving anyway, but this year it's just me, dh, and dd. Dd and I do not like turkey so I suggested Cornish game hens. Costco sells a 4-pack and my dad used to make them, so I've always wanted to try them. Dd wants to make a baked brie which we've never made before. Dh's non-negotiable is stuffing so we'll have that. And gravy. And cranberry sauce. And air fried bacon brussels sprouts. And pie of course. But... I told dd that I might not be able to find the game hens and she said "oh mom, just get a rotisserie chicken then! I love those!" I said I'd get that if Costco was out of the game hens. True confession....I went to Costco this morning and didn't even look for the game hens. I went straight to the rotisserie chickens, grabbed two, and never looked back. We just won't tell my family. I hate to cook and just didn't feel like bringing home frozen birds, thawing them, finding a recipe, cooking them... ugh. SO MUCH easier to do rotisserie chicken. And it gives me lots of leftovers (which is why I bought two), so I'll freeze the leftover meat for later, and make broth from the carcasses. Haha. Good for you! I bought and am thawing the turkey for three of us, because I'm the one who wanted a stuffed turkey. Now I'm regretting it.

We are going to friends. We are having friends or family in. There is no pie day this year with every making pie today and people staying in anticipation of making a big dinner tomorrow. And that’s ok.
DH had to go out on a business trip and won’t home until later this weekend. So that leaves just the two DS’s and me for the meal tomorrow. So, we are going to break out of the regular T-day mold and make Chinese food at home. We have made Chinese before but not all our favorites well-being having fried rice, lo mein, general Tsao chicken, honey garlic shrimp. It’ll be different and fun. The boys say next year we can pick a different country/cuisine.

I may have forgotten to mention that my stuffing is Stove Top straight from the box, no embellishments at all. Dh likes it so why mess with success and give myself more work? lolol

Quarter the Brussels sprouts. Pour coconut oil and vinegar mix over sprouts, stir. Salt and pepper (no measurements, just until it looks right, lol) Chop up bacon, add into sprouts. Add in pecans (you can roast them a bit first). Stir it all up. 380 degrees in the air fryer, 12-15 minutes, stirring every once in awhile.

DH and I are having a pajama day Thanksgiving. It’s supposed to rain here on the East Coast, and we are staying home with the fireplace lit all day, watching Hillbilly Elegy, eating, and decorating for Christmas. My daughter (nurse) is working, so she is celebrating Friday with her family and my son’s family. It’s the first time I’ve been away from my kids for the holidays.

Ours will be unusual in that we will be having our version of a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day! We usually do it a week early with my in-laws and then we travelled Thanksgiving week. We never once had a Thanksgiving meal on the day in 17 years.
This year it will be just the 3 of us at my mil house. My fil passed in mid March right as we were first hearing about covid, so this is the first holiday season without him. I
We will be having Lamb steaks Mashed potato Bisto lamb gravy with added mushrooms English peas with pancetta Butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, dried cherries and pecans Cranberry Apple streusel cake

Mother usually dines with us. Since she is in assisted living, it will just be the two of us. I'm making pizza! (I hate almost all Thanksgiving foods.) We did a video call with Mother today and have a visit scheduled for Friday. I don't think she realizes it is Thanksgiving, she hasn't mentioned it.
I plan to make Christmas cards tomorrow.

DH and I are in Los Angeles, kids are in NYC and Amsterdam. We are having a very small Thanksgiving without turkey at home. I may run out and get some meat as a treat for the animals.

Just D/H and I. We usually only have about four or five other people, but absolutely no company this year. Just not worth the risk. We are making all the usual food, but mini versions. It will be relaxing and will look forward to next year.

We usually spend the weekend traveling to 3 different places over 3-4 days. This year we are staying home and making a turkey dinner. I miss my family (haven't seen my Mom or sisters since Cmas) but part of me is OK with staying home for once. The upside is that we get to make the turkey dinner how we like it and in our own home--we sometimes make a turkey at the inlaws because then we get to have our stuffing and turkey that has been cooked to death...twice...

My sister always hosts and there are usually 9 of us from 5 different households. My 90 year old Dad was recently hospitalized and she decided he should stay home (we agreed), my niece lives out of state and works in a hospital so can’t travel without quarantining, my brother was staying home with his girlfriend’s family but me and my kids and dgd were going since we’re in her bubble. When I bought groceries on Monday I did so anticipating cooking a big dinner on Friday for the four of us (we love turkey and all the rest of the meal). On Monday night my sister called and said she thought we should stay home. I wasn’t surprised at all and think she made the right decision. It’s not the Thanksgiving any of us want but it will be good. I supervised my dd making a pie for the first time today while I peeled vegetables and made cranberry sauce for tomorrow. Ds washed all the dishes. Tomorrow will be more of the same...just hanging out and cooking together with no stress.

We normally host both sets of our parents, and all my siblings families in town - 22 people lately. This year it's just the us and our two school age kids. Usually we potluck the sides and desserts and only make the turkey, stuffing and biscuits.
I was kind of blah about it, but DD14 is excited about helping me cook. We've shortened the menu to our absolute favorites, but her excitement has been contagious. Tom the turkey is brining right now.

Usually we spend with kids and my brother and family. This year just DS who lives with me and I. We're baking a chicken and keeping it simple. When i was placing an online grocery order I asked him what special he'd like for Thanksgiving. DS said to not even bother as "2020 doesn't deserve it". I bought a few of his fave things anyway and a premade pumpkin pie as hard to ake with broken shoulder. So tomorrow will probably a slightly upgraded Thursday.

Definitely not a normal thanksgiving.
I have to work starting at 3:45. I will cook a few things and exchange them with a friend who is cooking a few things.
On typical years that I worked (every other year) I had thanksgiving with my best friend and her husband because I wasn’t able to go and have it with my family. She passed away unexpectedly last year but her husband and I will each cook part of dinner and exchange for this year. Kind of just another day. Hahaha.

Under other circumstances, the extended family would gather at my brother's house on the farm. It would be 15-25 people depending on who could come, cousins and their kids and my aunt, etc. Lots of traditions, including making a craft for those who want to (that I would organize and bring), a family raffle, games, and lots of traditional food.
That just isn’t smart this year, and my cousins agree. In some ways maybe it will be okay that it’s all different this year, because my aunt died October 7th and then my mom on November 1st. They were the last two of that generation. I know my brother is having a hard time getting into the holiday mood, and it would have been emotional for all of us. On the one hand being together and acknowledging the losses might have been good; on the other hand, maybe this is a good transitional year.
My brother and his wife are coming to my house, so just the three of us. He was going to host but wasn’t in the mood to do turkey and fixings, but I love Thanksgiving food (except for green bean casserole) so I suggested buying it all ready to heat. I picked it all up yesterday. He’s bringing a pie.

Sounds like most everyone is having a different sort of holiday this year. I didn't anticipate having a kidney stone as one of my Thanksgiving companions! Will just be the 3 of us here and we decided to order in instead of cooking. Just thankful if we can all remain relatively healthy from the virus. Wishing all the Peas a happy Thanksgiving despite the challenges that 2020 has brought.

We three - my husband, his lives-alone sister and me - will hang out at our home.
I tablescaped the dining room table but good. Since nobody will sit at one of the long sides, I went Whole Hog Thanksgiving Diorama there.
Best part: We’re ordering food from a restaurant, so the food will be transferred from styrofoam containers and brought to the diorama, where we will will tuck in with the family silver.
Second best part? The food is from a pan-Latin restaurant. We don’t need no stinkin’ turkey.
Then, speaking of opulent tablescapes and family silver, we’ll watch The Crown.

I’m looking forward to the first Thanksgiving in my entire life where I don’t have to leave my house and it’s just my immediate family and me. I miss my daughter who is in Europe, but I’m really looking forward to a quiet day. We’re going to watch the parade, do a craft, play a game, watch football and eat turkey. I just can’t wait.
@johnnysmom I am so very sorry. I cannot imagine how difficult this is. I am very sorry for your loss.

Occasionally we roast them with just salt and some spices, but mostly not. This recipe came from a neighbor where dd ate them once years ago, so now it's become a tradition. lo

Good morning ladies. I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving. As I look back on my year, I have much to be thankful for and I am going to try my best to keep that in mind as we celebrate with a scaled down holiday.
At my table will be, DH, DD (who lives with me) , DD boyfriend who lives alone, works with her and is the only person in her bubble, and DS. I figure I'm already being exposed to whatever germs the boyfriend has got. My DS lives in his own apartment. He was going to go spend his holiday with my mom. But my mom has had a recent covid exposure so she is in quarantine. I cannot close my door to him so he will be here.
I'm disappointed. For sure. Jeremy's kids won't be here. My mom and her boyfriend are quarantining alone. My sister and her family planned to spend this holiday with us. But they are staying home. And my MIL and SIL will also be on their own and they usually spend Thanksgiving with us too. We all planned our dinners for 3 pm. I will open up a zoom at 1pm. We will all log on and cook together and then we will eat together. Zoom is removing their time limits for today so please take advantage.
I'm making the same holiday meal I normally would but it's a lot more work when it's just me cooking. I'm used to a group effort. But I want to just spend time with my kids and make this the best holiday I can.
Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for all of you. ❤️
