I am afraid to make anything for people...too many people say they throw them away and it is a lot of time, money and affection that goes into making them. I can't stand the thought that someone would throw something I made away.

I can't stand the thought that someone would throw something I made away. I make goodie boxes for my sisters and a couple good friends every year. I like doing something other than the decorated cookies I do all year long as a job lol. People shouldn't even take people's treats if they are going to toss them.

I bake the cookies for my 2 nieces (working full time & have kids) and my sister-in-law, the cookies that my mom used to make. A few of them are really fussy/time consuming to make and are family favourites. I know that these are NOT thrown away, in fact, they are fought over.
I really enjoy baking, especially at Christmas and this is my gift to their families. I usually make about 4-6 different kinds of cookies.

I do an annual cookie exchange with my Bunco group. I take Peanut Blossoms. Very basic but I never make them any other time of year. So good too.
I really want to make those Santas that your Youtube link showed. So darn cute and doesn't look too hard if I can get my icing down.

I can't stand the thought that someone would throw something I made away. Mom, my sister and some nieces get together every year and bake and package a huge a mount for gifts to give. Some years it around 50 packages. We know the people we give them to eat them because they return the empty containers the next year and want to know when we will be baking for this year.

I bake at Christmas time. I make an assortment. Sometimes I add in different cookies if I find one I want to try but I have old standbys too.
These are what I usually make: 7- layer bars Sugar cookies Cake balls (just started these last few years) Fudge Rolo pretzels Pecan balls Choc chip cookies with colored chips or m&ms Caramels
Sometimes I make buckeyes. I've made the choc covered ritz peanut butter things too (don't know what they are called).
I give these to a few neighbors, one friend, my mom and my DH's work. I have no idea if my neighbors eat them or throw them out. DH's work fight over them. I make them a huge tray and they are usually gone before the end of the day. They talk about them all year long. They start asking in early Dec when I am making them. I make other things throughout the year too and they say they know it will be good so they always eat it. There are a few people there that people won't eat their baking.
So as long as I can bake for them and my family I will continue to do it. I hardly ever eat what I bake, I like giving it.

I bake all year long so at Christmas time I only make caramels. Lots of caramels... in the thousands and it's very time consuming. I have a huge list of people asking for them and can't keep up with the demand. People are already asking when I'm going to start I'm positive none of them get tossed.

I used to make tons of cookies. Now I'm old, busy, and tired, so I just make a few. I always wind up making gingersnaps with a coffee-flavored icing and peanut butter kiss cookies, plus sugar cookies for my daughter to decorate.

Gingersnaps, chocolate pinwheels, spritz cookies, shortbread, jewel cookies (have candied fruit in them) and thumbprints.

Lol because my business is booming I can't send my family what I normally do (decorated cookies) but I still want to send them something. Sadly the simple decorated cookies from the past won't do lol that's my own fault for getting good at it. We are planning on doing fudge, that's something we do every year

I haven't decided yet but I know I want to try some new things Lol, it's about 6 weeks until that time of year for me! I don't really think about it until about a week and a half before Christmas and start baking 5 or 6 days in advance.

I always get the kids' input around Thanksgiving time to decide which Christmas cookies we'll be baking. Everyone chooses 1-2 of their own favorites to start, then we add from there. There's a few family favorites we do every year, and we also usually try to add at least one new type each year - some of the "newbies" have eventually become old favorites. Now that the kids are older, with one away in college, we don't bake as many, so we'll see...
The cookies we always make are: chocolate cherry surprises (double batch) - sometimes twice in the season jello cookies Gingerbread
Some other favorites: butter cookie spritz in wreath & Christmas tree shapes white chocolate raspberry shortbread chocolate crescents thumbprints
Over the past few years we've sometimes added cake pops (time-permitting), and red & white checkerboard cookies (also a little time-consuming).

I am not a baker but each year my teen dd (now 17) makes a few things that I hand around. She loves it so it is a win/win She made these the other day and if you like ginger, you will love these. One of the best cookies I have tasted. www.midwestliving.com/recipe/cookies/gingersnap-gems/She loves ginger so she doubled it. Tasted very Christmassy and a nice change from gingerbread.

In fact at any work event or bring a plate morning tea etc, the homemade stuff is always the first to go.

Here are two tips so people don't throw out your homemade stuff.
1. Don't store your mint cookies with any other cookies. The other cookies will taste like mint.
2. Also, if you're going to bake early and freeze your cookies, make sure your freezer doesn't smell stale. Or your cookies will taste stale.

Peanut butter balls are always on my list. This year I am making frosted sugar cookies, jam kolaches, pecan tassies, and almond paste cookies.

I typically make:
Pecan Tassies (tiny pecan pies, always have to make 2-3 batches because they go fast) Iced Aunt Sallies (large soft gingerbread cookies iced with a thick marshmallowy icing) Date Pinwheels (spiced cookies with a date filling) Powdered Sugar Cookies (more like a drop cookie, not roll out type) Starlight Sugar Crisps (more like a pastry made with vanilla sugar) Decorated Sugar Cookies (recipes from Sweet Sugarbelle) I also make homemade caramels and sometimes cake batter truffles. Last year DD and I also made a gingerbread house, but I kind of cheated and used a packaged mix for the gingerbread since I figured it would most likely not get eaten.
My brother usually makes: Chocolate Biscotti Almond Triangles Jam Thumbprints Cherry Winks He also typically picks one or two new recipes to try.
We mostly give them to family and close friends who expect to get them. I'm pretty sure they get eaten because everyone always tells us how much they loved them and which ones were their favorites.

This is a family cookie for us, my DH and I met over these! My grandmother used to make them every Christmas, so she sent me some as part of a goody box my first Christmas at college. DH sat down because he wanted a cookie and we struck up a conversation. I haven't made them in many years, though I used to.
I'm going to make chocolates this year, something I haven't done since my dad died 7 years ago. The holidays are hard for me to begin with, and the past couple of years all my energy has gone into getting the house decorated and keeping the spirit for my kids. For the past couple of weeks I've begun to think, it's been long enough it's time to do the chocolates again.
The fillings are: coconut balls cookie dough truffles peanut butter crunch rolled into balls and dipped in chocolate. A great deal of work, but oh so good.
I made Belle Magic's Aunt cookies last year, and they were a hit. I'm going to do those again for our cookie exchange.

I make a lot of Chex Mix. And when I say a lot, I'm talking I use about 15 boxes of cereal, 20 cubes of butter, etc.. I have to use a large Rubbermaid tote to mix it all in. It takes me all day just to bake it. I have so many people ask for it too. By the time I get everything made and mailed off, it's time to make another batch. This year, because hubby will still be in the hospital at Christmas, I will have to make 3 totes so I can give his Dr's and nurses some.

We're more of a candy and pie family at Christmas. Everyone expects dark chocolate and white chocolate peanut butter 'trees' from me. They're easy to make, but very time consuming (tedious.) I make a lot to give to friends too. I always look forward to my niece's cinnamon candy (taste like pie dough with cinnamon), and my sil's chocolate coconut balls. Yum!
