A good friend gifted me 4 small CM albums a while ago. I haven't used them, and I know I should, so I thought I would do the "Fall Daily" in one of them. I was super good, printed out all my October pics, and got to work. I kind of hate it!
I love doing LO's with 3-5 pics on a page, I love lots of embellishments and titles I cut with my Cricut, ect...and these albums are just.so.small. I feel like my pages are kind of boring, I don't have enough room to journal and with how "exciting" Fall has been (my mom fell and broke her hip and I spent 3 weeks 2000 miles away taking care of her, cool Princess Bride fundraiser, the VP debate-yes, I took pics of the TV, lots of photos of apple baked goods, Halloween, election, etc....) I just feel like the 7x7 book I am using is not capturing it. I thought about using just 1 photo to "document" in the book and then in my normal scrapbooking do a bigger layout, but it's kind of like, "What's the point?" So I'm using one of these little books just to use it up?
Any thoughts on this? Am I biting off "more than I can chew" by trying to pack what has been kind of a crazy fall into a little book? If you do smaller scrapping, what are some tips?

What size are these albums? 3-5 photos per page seems like a bunch (for me, anyway).
Mini's are hit or miss for me. Love them for trips where I didn't take a bunch of photos. But I dont like them so much for every day type photos.

I would check out inspiration from Paige Evans - she packs a lot of punch in a mini album.

Love them for trips where I didn't take a bunch of photos. This is a great point. Maybe I should save them for a trip or something that was more of a one time event. I just got caught up in the "Fall Daily" idea...it sounded really fun, but I don't think I can devote an entire album to it. I am more of this kind of scrapper, I will try and post a pic. I don't really do the one photo page. Hmmmm can't post a pic, but I usually use at least three 4x6 pics on a 12x12 page. Edited to add album is 7x7

I do traveler notebook style memory keeping. I just put lots of FLIPPY things on each page for multiple photos. My booklets are chunky. I love it. But that’s me. If the size isn’t sparking your creativity then it might not be for you.

I don't like documenting in small albums for the most part. I love the 12x12 size. That being said, I do love a 6x8 for my December Project.
I am of the mind to scrapbook what you like and scrapbook with products you enjoy. If you are not enjoying documenting your Fall in that small album, don't do it! Go with what feels right to you!

That was really helpful; I just watched her flip through of her 2019 October album, you are right, wow! She has a lot going on. It looks like it is mostly a Halloween album, (although she does call it an October kind of "daily") so I am thinking that for me, these could be more event albums and less normal scrapbooking. Now I just need to decide if I am going to rip what I have apart, or try to narrow the focus. Gahhh!!

The format and size can have a huge influence on the way a scrappy project works and how much fun you have with it. I've realized that over the years I seem to have adjusted to the TN size, even though it has its limits, and when I tried to do a Storyline Chapters book, which is about 7x9" I found it really challenging. After pushing through and finishing 3 albums about this size I realized that it just isn't my size right now. So I'm not going to torture myself any more! Sure, I could figure out a way to make them work, try someone else's style, but this is supposed to be fun, and fighting my format just isn't fun. Would it feel like a relief if something happened to the unused albums? Like if they got magicked away/destroyed in a freak storm that left everything else you own undamaged. That tells you what you need to know. The phrasing "I know I should" use them suggests you're feeling obligated, not inspired. If I were you I'd give the albums away. At least the ones you haven't started using. If you're worried about your friend's reaction, that's another issue which I also have a ton of opinions about

I've only started a few small (6x8) books, and I add to them each year. They're holiday related books, so they have a "purpose" in so far as adding to holiday decorations, and then they go back into storage. They're kind of boring too, I guess. But I can add to them and move things around. They're always going to be a work in progress, I think.
If you don't enjoy making your small books, quit them for now. You can come back to them later or do something else with the albums and the photos

Another option for everyday photos is to use smaller photos. For my Travel Notebooks, I use my little printer that prints 2x3 inch photos from my phone. I’ve done a few TN pages with several photos on them. If you are using everyday photos that wouldn’t be impacted by making them smaller, that’s another option.

Another one of her friends was a CM rep and so she kind of bought a bunch of stuff...as far as I know she is still working on her first album, which is totally fine! It's just been 16 years. She does a couple pages a year. I wish I could make pictures smaller. I don't have an at home printer, so maybe that is something I need to look into doing. Thanks for the idea!

If you get the PL app, you can drop pictures onto a 4 x 6 template that has quite a few options. That way you can get anywhere from 1 to 6 pictures out of a 4 x 6 print. All of the pictures print on a 4 x 6, so sending them to Walmart or any other place they just treat them like regular 4 x 6 pictures (cheaper too). I just cut them apart with my trimmer when I get home. Having 2 x 2 pictures is kind of fun when you don't love the picture as much as the memory it represents.

I love 6x8 - it just worked for me from the moment I picked one up and I started to use it. 12x12 and even 9x12 just always felt too big for me in my hands. I felt like I was passing someone a ton of bricks when inviting them to look through my album. I just wouldn't force yourself to use a size you're not enjoying.

I just can't deal with anything other than 12"x 12". I like a lot of room to work. Those smaller albums would not work for me.

I'm normally an 8.5x11 scrapper but I use 8x8 for a handful of things.
It's okay not to like smaller albums - if you're a die-hard 12x12 that's fine
Smaller pictures or collage pictures often work best on the smaller page - you can print smaller or crop smaller.
For a lot of journalling - can you do a double page spread with mostly pictuers on one and mostly journalling on the other? or hidden journalling? or even journalling on the reverse?
I did my December Daily last year in an 8x8 - I did a few layouts in my regular album as well where I wanted to use many more photos but overall, it worked out well. But I'm not an over-embellish-er and tend towards simpler pages.

Next time you could try printing smaller photos and see how you like that. I think that might be fun to document a single event, like a milestone birthday.
I had an ugly chipboard album about that size. I tossed it in the trash and use the page protectors in my 12x12 album. I really like mixing the sizes of pages. I just punch additional holes as necessary.

1 yes a smaller album or format almost requires smaller pictures. If that is your desire there are ways to do it free prior to sending your photos out to print. I work in a smaller format all the time now and it’s ‘stuck’ more than 12x12 ‘stuck’. Meaning I do my smaller format daily and maintain it without struggle. I don’t ‘maintain’ 12x12 full layout format daily, weekly or even in a regular basis but I enjoy it so I do it when I want to with whatever pictures I want
2 this is a hobby, for enjoyment, scrap in a way that makes you happy - do not have guilt over moving on from a part of it that doesn’t bring you joy, happiness or satisfaction. You don’t need anyone’s ‘permission’ to scrap your way or to move on from formats, products or styles that frustrate you or you don’t enjoy. There is no wrong in memory keeping so long as you are enjoying it. ( and that is a concept that took me awhile to fully embrace as well )

I downloaded the PL app, (good grief, was that a learning curve, no clue what my Apple ID was, you'd think I was 103 instead of 40's...lol) and now am sending off little prints to Walgreens!

I usually scrap 12x12 but sometimes use 8x8 albums for short vacations and I have enjoyed working with that size in the past. I print my pictures in 4x3, 4x4, and some 4x6 if it’s a one photo layout. I’m working on one right now and finding that I don’t like it this time around. Unfortunately, I’m already into the project enough that I can’t really start over, but I probably won’t do this size again for quite a while if ever. If you haven’t started then don’t box yourself into a long project that you won’t enjoy.

Daily, also for the trips they have taken to different cities when they lived abroad. She also does a lot of 12x12 layouts.

Scrapbooking as a hobby should be fun, so why struggle through an entire album? If you feel this format doesn't allow room for the photos & words necessary to convey your story, then consider mounting/incorporating the 7x7 layouts you've completed so far onto 12x12 backgrounds. You can leave them intact, or just use parts of them to construct new pages, & add more 4x6 photos & journaling. Forwarding the 7x7 albums to someone who prefers the smaller size is a win-win for both of you.

I like a lot of white space so 12 x 12 is my go to but I have done smaller albums for specific events/places/other groupings that have a smaller selection of photos. This is especially good for gifts.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

I like that size for baby albums, or a specific event like first communion. You wouldn’t happen to have an unwanted pink one would you...?

Life is to short, to use what you don't like.
Graciously and profusely thank the giver, for thinking of you and for their kindness(it's the thought that counts).
Then re-gift, donate, sell, or toss. Don't feel obligated to use something or keep something, especially if you had no say in it's acquisition.

Instead of tearing it apart - could you add the 7x7 layout to a 12x12 page and then use the extra space for your journaling that you didn't have room for? I'm thinking of it from the standpoint of building-out what you've already started into the 12x12 format...might help.
Lots of good thoughts, ideas and support here - couldn't agree more about it being a hobby that we need to enjoy with "no rules" :-) I over-complicate my inspiration - working on getting better at that LOL
Do what makes you happy and what you like - best wishes!

I do 6x8 pages, 8x8, 8 1/2x11, and 4x4. I LOVE small. It's very easy for me to work with. I recommend using something like the Project Life app to put multiple pictures on one piece of photo paper. Or I use the Print to Size app to make photos of all sizes. I also use a lot of 2x2 photos. I personally love it. Here is a 6x8 two-page spread. You can do lots of things on a 7x7 page.

I tried 8.5x11 this year for my PL albums and at the beginning of the year I loved it. I was mostly up to date for the first time ever. By like July, I was super over the smaller size. I hate that nothing comes in that size and that my photos are all so small this year. I kept plugging away but I kind of wish I'd gone back to 12x12 for album number 2. I'm really glad I tried it, but it's just not for me. I'm trying to chalk it up to a learning experience and resist the urge to re-do all of 2020. I think it's that the photos are so small and the lack of standard sizes for cards and such is what I've noticed is make the album a struggle. I enjoy 6x8 and I'd love to try 9x12. I'm a standard size girl apparently.
