I graduate today. 2020 style. It’s a virtual graduation so they will just read a bunch of names online. To sort of “make up” for the virtual graduation they sent everyone a Celebration Pack! This celebration pack included a cap, gown, and my honor cords. But, in 2020 style, they won’t arrive until next week sometime.
And no one in my family and friends remembered.
I’ve been taking classes for 3 years. I just feel depressed today. Not happy and accomplished like I should.
Uggg.

UPDATE: First of all, I'm kinda a hard a$$. I'm not a very emotional person, but you all have truly melted my grinch heart. Thank you SO much for all the wonderful words of encouragement.
Later Saturday afternoon, dh took one of my Christmas presents and gave it to me early as a graduation gift. I had asked for chocolates from a store I went to as a child. Funny thing is I had left them on the side table and dh ate half of them. LOL. But I thought it was sweet of him anyway. He asked if my family recognized the day and I said no, but it is what it is. The day is in the past and I can't change that. I can just move forward.
Again, I can't say thank you enough. Ya'll made me ugly cry out of joy instead of pity.

I'm sorry it wasn't a typical graduation, but find a way to celebrate if you can. At least remember to be proud. It is a lot of work to graduate and to do it this year shows your resilience.

I think you should send a text to your close friends and family and say something like “I did it! Today is my virtual graduation!”
I think they would want to know.

Oh, I’m so sorry. You have every right to feel disappointed. I know it’s not the same but I think it’s amazing and you should be so proud. Do something for yourself today. Today might be not what you’d wanted but you did the work and your accomplishment will last longer than this. Hugs.

I now have a degree in criminal justice. Soon a job near my house will open up and I knew to get it, I would need a degree. It would be an amazing promotion for me. Interestingly enough, dh will interview for a dream job of his back where we grew up. So I’m not too sure where life will take us. But I’m glad for my degree wherever we go. I reminded dh about the virtual graduation today and he said we could go out to dinner. Ummm no. We don’t go out to dinner and I don’t want Covid for a graduation present. But at least he offered. I’m going to go for a run and see if it helps my mood. I can’t thank you ladies enough for the kind words! |

I'm sorry that your graduation ceremony was reduced to a list of names on the screen, but the accomplishment is still there. When your name comes up on that screen, take a picture and send that thing far and wide via text and email with a well earned "I did it!!!" Then do take away from your favorite restaurant for dinner and open a bottle of bubbly to toast your hard work! Best wishes to you in your future career choices!
