I SHOULD post a pic. My hair has magically grown down beyond my waist. NO idea how, but last summer I had it cut pretty short (above my shoulders). It's so long, heavy and a LOT to deal with. I haven't gone to a salon since Covid (too scared), but I'm very tempted just to cut it all off by now!
Has anyone else cut their hair or are some of just growing Rapunzel-like hair during Covid???

Kind of... I had my husband do it. I showed him how short and handed him the scissors. My coworkers were shocked because he actually did a great job (though it wasn't hard, just cutting a bob). I took a lot off back in May but I've been growing it back out since then because I missed my Rona bun at work!

I've got the rapunzel locks. Almost to my waist. I am hoping to be able to hold of hacking it off until late spring and I'll go chin length and donate it. I donate every 2-3 years and was supposed to donate in May but, well, COVID. So... now I wait. I'm spending lots of time with a bun, ponytail, braids. I really like putting it in a high pony and braiding it so I can twirl it around my head like a helicopter. LOL.

oh hell no!! I cut my bangs, but that's it. I have to go out in the public every day, sooo. Even though most often it's up in a pony, or headband back

Is your DD still living with you?? Let her do it..too hard to do on your own if your hair is that long. Make sure you have really sharp scissors

Yep, but I did it pre-Covid, too. LOL! I just get to the point where I'm tired of it and just hack it off. If it's too uneven, I'll ask DH to even it out, but I just keep it pulled back, so it doesn't matter. I'm sure by spring time when it gets hot again, I'll do it again.

Just remember whatever happens, it will grow again.
A few weeks ago I cut my dds hair from below her shoulder to a type of pixie cut. She was quite pleased. I watched lots of YouTube videos before I started just so I felt a bit more in the know!
I've seen a picture of a builder who used a laser light to mark a straight line on his wife's hair to ensure a good cut!

I buzz cut dh and ds' hair
I cut dd's hair
Dh cuts mine
I had dh take 3 inches off during Thanksgiving week. We did this back in April and September too.
We all went to our stylist/barber in June when our area was doing good.

I've been to the salon 2 or 3 times, but DH has started cutting his own hair. Luckily my Mom had a spare set of clippers that he's been using...because by the time he thought to order a set, they were sold out everywhere. He actually ordered a Flowbee vacuum haircutting system, but Amazon lost the order and now they are sold out again.

Wow! It takes my hair a long time to grow! I probably haven't had a hair cut in two years. It was probably shoulder length and now just past my bra strap.
I'm very tempted to buy this tool
My hair isn't very thick. What's the worst that could happen? It's not like I go anywhere.

I did. I normally get my hair cut every 6 months. My hair grows fast too. I like to keep it cut to about my shoulders. It's wavy and my stylist cuts it in long layers. Before Covid I missed getting it cut last December like I usually do, and then Covid hit. By this fall it had grown really long, past my bra strap and was really starting to bug me. I bought some hair cutting shears from Amazon. When I style my hair it forms these wavy strands of lots of hair twisted together. I just took each of these strands and cut them one by one. I looked at the back and it was one length half way across and another the other half. Woops! DH helped out straightening out the back and he did a great job.
I was so happy with my shorter cut. It's so much easier to take care of. I think getting hair cutting scissors is a big part of the success. You need really sharp scissors to do this, not household scissors. I cut DS's hair too.

DD has been cutting her bangs through COVID. I haven't cut mine and it looks awful!!! I'm a really uneven cutter though, so I'm not going to give it a try.

Have you thought of doing a unicorn cut instead of doing each curl? I think it gives you a v shape. I haven't done it because my hair is kind of thinner. Wow does some of your hair grow fast!

I cut my hair about a month ago. It was getting too long and unhealthy. I have long curly layered hair and figured I couldn’t mess it up too much. I actually had my daughter come in and straighten the back out when I was done. I’ve been very happy with it and I will probably do it again. As a disclaimer I normally cut my husband’s and 4 daughters hair so I’m familiar with cutting hair.

Yes, my hair had gotten mid-way down my back and I usually keep it just 2-3 inches below my shoulder. I have not been to the salon since early in the year (around January/February), but I'd been keeping the bangs trimmed all along. My hair grows pretty fast, so I've trimmed the ends and my bangs many a time myself in between salon trips over the years. DD's was super long too. She caved first and asked me to cut hers, which I did back in the spring (~late April) while we were staying with my Dad caring for him after he got out of the hospital (COVID). We did it there because we had just gotten him a hair cutting kit on Amazon - his hair was also really long (for him, LOL) and they wouldn't let him have a decent razor or scissors at the hospital. So I cut about 4-5 inches off DD's hair while we were there and she was really happy with it. She keeps hers about the same length as mine, just below shoulder length. After we got home in early May, I still held out (thinking maybe I'd be able to get to my salon). But I caved sometime around June or July, and finally cut 4-5 inches off mine. Took several rounds to get it even because I was cutting so much at once - usually when I've cut my hair in the past, it's been less than an inch or so. I tried to do a bit of an angled cut (v-shape) sort of the way my stylist did it, but of course I couldn't really do the whole long layers thing that the stylist does. My hair is pretty thick so a tiny bit of unevenness doesn't show a whole lot. (And if it does people have been nice enough not to tell me! And I probably wouldn't care if they did.)

Wow! you have long hair.
My last salon appointment was at the end of January. I had mine schedule for late March, but cancelled. I haven't had bangs for about 10 years, but then decided I MUST have them and cut bangs. I like them. I studied videos. I had my daughter trim my hair a few times, too. It's still long, but okay. I'll be glad when I can get back!
FWIW, I'd cut it if I were you

I've trimmed a little bit a couple of times in the last year. It's been a year since my last appointment--I felt I really needed a haircut right in the middle of when salons were shut down here so I evened up some of the ends. Just today I did that again because it was looking bad (my ends are splitting and break easily when brushing). Salons have been open for months and I have no issue going, I just never remember to contact my hairdresser except for early in the morning...

Yes I've cut my own (but then had to go to my hairdresser friend to fix it lol) I've also cut both of my daughters. I have always been good giving the girls haircuts. They beg me. On myself? Yeah, was a little too crooked for my liking.

I’ve been growing mine for 7 years with trims every few months. I trim it myself. It’s to my waist. It has nothing to do with Covid. Lol

DD cut mine in August before she went back to the States. She did an ok job. It’s straight, but all the layers are gone. It’s long again, but I’ll celebrate getting my vaccine with a haircut.

I'm trimming my own bangs, but that's as far as I dare. As I mentioned in another thread, if we don't get the vaccine soon I'm going to look like Cousin Itt.

Count me in as another one just growing out their hair. My hair is already to my waist and it hasn't been this long since I was a little girl (which was a long time ago!).
I'm too nervous to go to the salon right now, will probably hold off until this spring or summer. I've watched some YouTube videos on giving yourself a haircut but I'm scared I might mess it up. Not that anyone would notice, my hair is usually in a bun or braid.

I found my hair growing way faster than normal during the summer. I had my DH trim about 2 inches off several times, but it just seemed to keep on going. In the middle of Septemer I put it all back in a ponytail and had him chop it off. I like it! He did need to do some additional trimming after the first chop but he did a really good job.

I had DH cut the back length once. It wasn't the straightest but it was better than nothing. I did my top and side layers.

Even with some trimming, mine would be down to the floor. When it's at your waist or longer, don't you feel like your hair is everywhere?? Mine is very thick and curly so it's just way too much for me when it's beyond the middle of my back. Kudos to you for growing it and keeping it so long! Good ideas from everyone else. Not too sure I'd trust DD with sharp scissors. She has shakey hands from her meds and D has arthritis. I thought I might just snip it off, but they usually do it in layers at the salon. I'm tempted though!!!

Your hair grows fast! Mine is down to the middle of my back. Started about shoulder length. These split ends will probably put me over the edge and I'll end up cutting it all off myself. I can't stand the feel of them.
