I live in Minnesota so you would think there would be snow on the ground. I don’t remember ever not having snow for Christmas when I was a kid. But we have had a few brown Christmases and it looks like that is the case this year. But we will definitely get snow in January through April.

In the last two years, we have had snow as late as May 21st and as early as the day after Labor Day. And by snow, I mean 6-10 inches, not a dusting. But we often don't have a white Christmas. We get our best snows in March and April. Who knows? I'm in Colorado.

I've never seen snow and have no desire to have a cold Christmas LOL.
The forecast for where I'm spending Christmas Day is 27C/80F which is absolute perfection for an outdoor lunch.

I wish! Honestly, I was hoping 2020 would bring a blizzard to so cal. I mean if it were to happen this would be the year, right.

the only recorded measurable snow in my area was Christmas 1989 (before I lived here) so highly unlikely. We've had the odd flake here and there occasionally but nothing that lasts long enough to hit the ground.
That said, we're having unseasonally cold temperatures (for Florida) at the moment which are expected to continue through Christmas. If there was a year for snow here, this would be the year

We've had snow for Christmas one or two of the 10 years I've been here. We had some snow back at the start of December, but it is all gone now. I've looked at the weather forecast for the next week, and it is going to be too warm on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for snow. We're more likely to get snow in January and February.

We will since we got 16” yesterday. I doubt it will melt by then. One year we got 27” of snow on Christmas Day. I love having snow on Christmas. It’s so cozy inside with a fire and so pretty outside.

I had it when I lived in Colorado and when I lived in Switzerland, but never here in Virginia, alas. Nothing like it! In Northern VA we have a 30% chance of snow on Christmas as it stands right now! Here’s hoping 🤞🏻!

We don’t celebrate Xmas but I understand the term : a white Xmas. We occasionally have snow on Xmas. This year our December has been pretty mild. Our local mountains and ski resorts have snow but we don’t in the city. I checked the forecast - none in the forecast. I can’t say I don’t mind but my kids would have liked some local snow for over the break. At least for a few days.

I answered "Never", but that's really not true, I think we have had snow once or twice in the 37 years I've lived here.

I'm in northern Illinois and usually we have had a mega snow dump by now. But nope, no white stuff predicted through Christmas, although the HIGH on Christmas Eve is predicted to be 17.

Not looking like it this year. I'm just outside of Minneapolis and haven't had snow on the ground for a month. We've already had 8 inches this year but that was from a bigger Oct storm and then one the week before Thanksgiving. I'm bummed actually that we won't. Working from home and would love to have a winter that I can sit and watch it snow and be thankful I don't have to be out there dealing with it on the roads.

Normally there is at least a little snow on the ground by now, but the weather has had some unseasonably warm turns lately and what tiny bit of snow that was left from Thanksgiving melted today. If we were smart, we would get out in the yard tomorrow and pick up all the dog poop while it’s all still frozen but it can still be easily seen! 💩

Dec 17, 2020 16:58:50 GMT -7 AussieMeg said: I'm not going to skew your poll by responding, but no, we won't have a white Christmas because it's summer here. Although I do have a vague recollection of there being snow on the mountains down in Tasmania (our southern-most state) back in December 2017. We were laughing about it because DSO and DS were heading down there just after Christmas to go camping. I've never seen snow and have no desire to have a cold Christmas LOL. The forecast for where I'm spending Christmas Day is 27C/80F which is absolute perfection for an outdoor lunch. Haha! You wouldn't have snow even if it was the first day of winter for you though either. Never seen snow I've never seen snow in July I've probably spent more of my life in snow that not, that's depressing. Snow is beautiful, just a pain to worry about driving in it and on the roads and half+ the year is just too long. Hoarfrost is one of the most beautiful things you'll ever see in nature, it's the best part of winter. 27 is plenty hot for me, that's my limit actually and it better be a dry heat.

milocat I’m sure it pretty but I can’t stand the cold. 27 for us is mild, we are much more used to temps in the high 30’s this time of year (which I love) and where I live will be hotter but we will be in the Adelaide Hills which is quite a bit cooler. Heat here is very dry, I don’t like humidity either.

We get our best snows in March and April. Who knows? I'm in Colorado. May snow is the worst, everything is leafed out and the snow is wet and it just breaks everything. Our winter snow is dry and fluffy and doesn't stick. The late snow is gross. We are more likely to get a May or June snow than September. But snow is here to stay in mid/end of October. You wouldn't have far to go to find some snow, just up to Whistler? Best of both worlds. I answered "Never", but that's really not true, I think we have had snow once or twice in the 37 years I've lived here. I answered always but I think we have had one black Christmas, which you could have found snow still, on the north sides of buildings, in the bush line, but pretty much bare. Lol no, but it is likely to be “Houston cold.” Maybe around 50 degrees: I’ll take it! We had +10/50F at the beginning of the month, it was glorious! Even though it didn't feel that warm with the wind blowing and the sun so low and shining for so few hours. It was still so warm and a nice break from winter. Then we got slapped back into reality with a -29C/-20F windchill and now warming up overnight to -1C/30F.

I like the lushness of humid places but can't handle it. Just like we have a dry cold. We have people come here and can't believe people work outside here all winter long but then they realize a damp -5C is colder than a dry -20.

The BOM is only forecasting 21 for Melbourne on Christmas Day. I would be happy if it was warmer, because I'd planned to wear a new summer dress (if it arrives in time). Haha! You wouldn't have snow even if it was the first day of winter for you though either. We do get snow in Australia, but only in TAS, VIC, and southern NSW, and really only on the mountains. AllieC lives a bit too far away from the snowfields, which is why she's never seen snow - she lives (well, lived) in the hottest part of Victoria. Even though I love summer and the heat, I also love snow skiing. I live about a 3 - 4.5 hour drive from the ski resorts here in VIC. You're right, it really is so pretty, and I love seeing photos here by Peas who live in places where it snows. But I couldn't live where it snowed, especially for half the year!

We made snowmen about the size of Barbie Dolls. lol But like you said, it’s colder than usual this year even in my part of Florida. I don’t think any of us will be lingering outside for our non-traditional drive by visits. Most years we are in flip flops and tees, but not this year.

They closed the schools because, I think in retrospect, that we just weren’t prepared to hear the schools to the degree that is was cold. lol But I was in Gainesville for that “no name” storm you are talking about. It even snowed there!!

I've been watchin a lot of Hallmark Christmas movies. I've only seen two with no snow. One was from 2012 and set on an island in Washington. The other was Christmas in Rome.
I live in coastal SoCal. We never, ever get snow. Every year, I see how hard the White Christmas ideal is pushed and realized that it's probably just to make people who live in the Snow Belt feel better. 60% of the US does not get snow for Christmas. I looked it up last week. Also, it's summer in the Southern Hemisphere at Christmas--half the Earth. AND, it's extremely unlikely that it snowed at the Nativity because snow is really rare in Bethlehem.
Snow is pretty to look at, but I'll keep my green Christmases.

Grew up with them in CO, almost had one in VA, had a magical one here in NC; and have seen the forecast of hope this week go from a very minuscule chance to mid 70s and rain. Ugh. I’m dreaming of a white Christmas!
