natscraps, sounds like you’re getting a lot done! For your scrap room, have you considered working on it in really small intervals so it’s not as overwhelming? For instance: turn on a timer for 5 minutes, or tell yourself you’ll work through just one song (average 3.5 minutes on the radio I think) and put on your favorite one, or that you’ll go in and grab 2 items that belong in another room and immediately put them away. And you can grab the easy items and simply start sorting the like-with-like items in there, you don’t have to put it away if you don’t know exactly where you want something. No pressure to make visible progress, just to do something and make some progress knowing it will start to be visible sooner than you think. And much sooner than if you avoid it for the next 2 weeks, ya know? For me, removing the pressure of my perfectionism or to make a visible dent really makes it less overwhelming. HTH!

The entire filled minivan filled went to the electronic recycling collection Friday. It was like Tetris packing it all in and then stacking it on the pallets, but so worth it. I was so proud of DH - he let go of a lot of things that still work, but we don’t use anymore. Knowing about microchip and component shortages made that easier.
We still have to go through some hard drives to get them ready for recycling. 3 of my old backups and about 30 of his.
This weekend’s project is to finish purging the living room mega-bookcase, and I’m finally getting furniture in place to set up a crafty area. I plan to be very choosy as I unpack some crafty items that have been in the basement since 2012.. organizing the albums a few weeks ago made me realize how much I miss scrapping.

I stopped procrastinating and donated my 2 bags and 2 boxes to Goodwill on Wednesday. I am happy to have it out of the entry.

I haven't participated in this thread at all I don't think, but I've been working on ds's old room....He's moved out permanently but his HUGE desk was still in there (one of those mega things that turns the corner and has work surfaces on two walls, several shelves, a bureau, and tons of junk. He'll be up here for a couple of weeks in July with his fiancée and her daughter so I really want to clear out this room, buy a new bed, and get rid of stuff or organize it for him to take back to Georgia. I've been sending him photos of stuff and asking if he wants to keep it or get rid of it. Everything he wants to get rid of I've put up on my local Buy Nothing group. Do you all participate in those in your area? Every item I've put up has had someone interested. lol. Often more than one someone. I'm not putting up clothes or books except for really nice books -- coffee table types or recent history books, stuff like that. I have gotten rid of so much stuff, and now dh has started handing me a few things. lol. He has SO MUCH hobby stuff that the few things he's given me to list in the group are hardly even a dent in it, but it's a start. I love Buy Nothing, and it's very interesting to see who replies to what type of stuff. And honestly, there's one woman who has to has to be a borderline hoarder. She replies that she's interested in almost everything. wow. Anyway, I am making progress on this room. As soon as I've got it mostly emptied out we're going to paint.

Dropped off recycling this morning -yay!
Also dropped off a large tote and a paper ream box of donations at Goodwill. We did go in but I only bought a floor lamp which will hopefully provide some much needed light in my craft room

I’m making good progress today. Trying to make quick, firm decisions. I already have three bags/boxes in the car and will probably have three more before I’m through.

PLurker I love what you did with the chairs! Thank you! It does make them more fun, doesn't it!? I have some tables and a loveseat size chair of same style yet to paint. I'm thinking a purple for them. Don't want to have too many different colors...or do I? 😉 Have to run for more paint!

PLurker - Love those chairs! Great job! My parents had a set like that with a round table. At the time I had no room for them and a cousin took them. They painted the set a mix of turquoise and red and I love them. Now I have room for the set and wish I had kept them. They were really comfortable chairs, too! Finally caved and got new bathroom towels this past week. Once they were washed and put away, I bagged up the old ones (6 sets), as well as other odd towels. They will be dropped off to a local pet rescue this week (not open today). It's an organization that rescues strays and abandoned pets and transports them to other states to be rehomed. Last year they transported 14,000 dogs and cats to new homes in Colorado, Virginia and Wash. DC. We have a serious stray animal problem here and I'm happy to do whatever I can to help them find new, loving homes. Not sure how much I'll accomplish this week, but I have some big plans starting on Friday when DH leaves on his fishing trip! ETA: DH just discovered his rain slicker's lining had begun to disintegrate in the 'go bag' he keeps in his trunk. It was a really good brand, but nothing can last forever kept in a bag, inside the trunk of a black car in Texas year round! Since it was a very good brand, and being the seamstress I am, I spent a good 15-20 minutes over the sink cutting out all the zippers and toggles to save. Then the remains of the slicker went into the trash. The go bag itself is questionable. The exterior is getting a sticky feel to it, which experience tells me is not going away. I'm thinking that will end up going as well.

Love the chairs!!!!
I went through our skin basket and got rid of all expired sunscreen. That was huge for me because they had some left.
Put a pile of towels to donate to the humane society. Planning on going through the sheets soon and will add some of those as well.
Went through half of the medicine and got rid of anything expired. Realized I probably ky should go through the cars' first aid kits and update those as well.

Your humane society probably likely takes blankets too, at least small ones, in case you wanted another category of items to go through and to save a trip. And some things I wouldn’t have thought of like leftover party supplies, string, gift wrap and tissue. These types of items are why I love declutter calendars, they’re not something everyone automatically thinks of. And don’t you love how one thing leads to another? I updated our first aid kits as well, but forgot to add it to my maintenance items so thank you for the reminder!

I so need this thread. I would love to do a huge declutter of the entire house this summer. If it was just me I think I could. DH is more difficult. He hates to get rid of anything you might need or that he perceives has value. How do you get others on board with your declutter efforts?
I did go through some things today and gathered some of my books to take to goodwill . I’m also getting rid of an old comforter that belonged to DS and one of our older ones. It’s a start!

Glad to have you here with us! First realize that it's going to be a slow process at times and baby steps count! Lots of baby steps add up to progress and success. I find I make more progress when I focus on one area/room. If you find things to move to other rooms, set them aside and do it when you finish for the day. If you start taking things to their places when you find them, you risk getting side tracked and then nothing measurable happens. As for DH, you'll see that is a common complaint here. You just have to set your goals and do your thing. Usually they come around eventually! I swore DH never would. I lost count of how many times we moved 30 years of old National Geographic magazines around the world. Miracles do happen and he finally agreed to part with them a few years ago. Now he's the one who will more readily get rid of stuff while I'm getting bogged down in memories. Keep us posted as you get more done this summer!

My copy is falling apart I’ve read it so many times, and each time I read I write down my thoughts and things it brings to mind that I should let go of. I asked DH to do the same after the first time I read it and now he is the one that asks me if I really need to keep something. Eta: Here is a link. There is also a workbook, but I don’t remember how much that helped. I’ve gifted this book many times to friends/family who were going through their belongings, because I won’t loan my copy out!

My techy 21yo DS pointed out that I seem to be creating or referencing the Google logo (colors)!🤣
I'm told him I think the Google logo is referencing me; or at least simply the primary colors plus one.😜

I have purged for the last 2 years, knowing we were going to reach the point of buying a townhouse. We put money down yesterday on new build, closing in February. Now I really have motivation to rethink a few things I haven't purged.

So I haven’t done much in the way of purging but we have been organizing. But we have started passively house shopping which will change things around here. So now DH is finally on board with helping to purge.
This weekend there is a chemicals and paint recycling drop off so we spent the past week collecting and organizing all the random paints and garage chemicals. There is also an industrial shred truck there so I have 2 boxes of shred to take and 4 boxes of paint and aerosol cans. We bought new shelves and milk crates to store what we have left. It’s so much more organized and no more boxes of spray cans on my treadmill. I now need to go through my painting supplies and condense it down to 1 bin.
DD also went through her books and got rid of about half a box of books. After the chemicals run the next step in the basement is the last of my MIL’s stuff. DH needs to help with that stuff, I’m not going through it alone.

He hates to get rid of anything you might need or that he perceives has value. How do you get others on board with your declutter efforts? Welcome! You just do your stuff and talk to DH about where the line is on household stuff (as far as what you can make decisions about and what needs his input) I've been on the declutter wagon for probably 20+ years at this point (and wouldn't you think my house was decluttered by now? but it is an on-going process not a once and done). We've moved three times in that time-frame and not once has DH managed to pack or purge in advance - this last move has been the worst - we moved in Feb and are STILL packing and moving some of his stuff. BUT he's finally starting to go through his stuff and think critically about it. It's a super super slow process because it gets overwhelming and there is SO much stuff. But it's finally starting to click that you can indeed keep too much. One of the slow-downs in getting all his stuff moved is there's no where to move it to - not because we have less space (we actually have more) but because he needs to go through it and put it away (slowly) and in the meantime, it's all in big piles. I lost count of how many times we moved 30 years of old National Geographic magazines around the world. not around the world but yes, so many freaking boxes and totes of National Geographic - and they are so HEAVY. I even bought it on disc for him many years back in hopes that he might not save so many but nope - he has plans for going through and pulling out ads and selling them. He's had these plans for 20+ years (and we've also been toting around a super heavy shrink wrap machine that he hasn't once used - idea being shrinkwrapped the ads on magazine boards).

I'm currently focusing on digital clutter and organisation on my computer This is always a winter project for me. I was pretty ruthless this year, deleting several thousand old emails from my gmail account I've had 20 years. Anything old I kept was assigned to a folder, and starred if it was important and not to be deleted. Apparently copies of old text messages are stored in there as well. That's a project for next winter. Digital photos need another purge to get rid of the not so great photos and any remaining duplicates. I even bought it on disc for him many years back in hopes that he might not save so many but nope I bought the DVD with all the issues (to that date) for him and I am pretty sure he never took it out of the case. When I finally pointed that out to him was when he realized he was holding on to them for no reason. His idea of selling the ads would be a nice retirement hobby. However, has he even checked the condition of the magazines? You live in a damp, humid climate. Unless you have them stored in a climate control place, the condition has most likely deteriorated. Then add in the strong likelihood of silverfish and you have a mess that will greatly affect what he can get for them.
