I am going to gripe. We took advantage of the long weekend to put in some serious time cleaning out MIL ‘s house. She is a hoarder and the place was packed.
The amount we have thrown away and donated in the past year is amazing. Now we are down to selling the items that are worth the effort to sell. The number of flakes and no shows infuriates me. If she didn’t need the money, I would not even try.
Gripe over.

We also had a couple no shows. Thankfully those items were smaller and we weren't asking much so we just ended up donating them to Goodwill. I suppose the fact that they were low priced was why those people blew us off. It is irritating though. The whole family is dreading the day MIL house needs to be cleaned out. She makes my mother's home look like a minimalist LOL. Hang in there!

DS went through his closet and purged 3 trasbags. Trash day was today and it is GONE. I don’t even care what he got rid of.

I'm purging and organizing the pantry once again. If people would out stuff in the right place when unloading groceries, that would help.

Anyone else get declutter burn out? This whole week I have slacked off. I don’t know if it’s the heat or what but I just don’t feel like doing anything. We close on the house in 23 days and I have a ton to do, I just can’t motivate myself.

We close on the house in 23 days and I have a ton to do, I just can’t motivate myself. Happens all the time. Sometimes you just need to take a break, either physically or mentally. Maybe take a day off to just do something fun and/or relaxing for yourself. Recharge your batteries so that you'll be ready to get back to the decluttering in a day or so. Have your list of things to do and just realize that the really important things will happen, and the rest will be waiting for you later. I'm currently sidelined for a couple of days. My elbow has been hurting more and more so I finally saw the ortho this morning. Turns out I have "golfer's elbow" (or quilter's elbow as I'm calling it). Since I've been dealing with it off & on since Fall, he suggested we jump straight to the cortisone injection, as well as wear a pressure elbow brace. The injection spot is getting really sore, so I've decided to just catch up on reading this afternoon/evening. It's hard not to guilt myself about not finishing the baby quilt or purging drawers in the guest room though.

Does decluttering mental clutter help? I've needed to make an appointment to get an issue with my car fixed for a very LONG time and finally did that. Appointment is set and on my calendar so now I can forget about it.
Today's project is moving my printed photos from the photo boxes they've been stored in to the Iris "suitcases". This is for emergency purposes--if i have to leave quickly, it'll be much easier to transport those closed/latched "suitcases" than to try to juggle photo boxes.

Sometimes I just do digital declutter. Emails, useless photos, etc. Mental clutter also blocks the other things you need to do. I will add phone calls to my list of things to do for the day.

I took a good mental break today and finished a book I’ve been reading for over a month. Tomorrow I don’t have to drive kids places other than practice so I’m going to finish my dads dining room. Today I packed up a pile of bills and warranties that need to be filed. And current bills are tucked in my bill book to be paid. I might pack some books in the living room tonight. If I can pry DH away from the hockey game.

OMG I couldn't take it any longer. I'm working on defrosting our upright freezer in the laundry room. Of course I'm making a mess while trying to clean a mess. The end result will be worth it.

worked with DS to cut up fallen branches and clean up storm debris in the yard - we're not done but we're about out of space in the bins
He's assembled one and is assembling a second bookcase. I've filled one and am hoping the rest of the boxed books will fit in the other.
Then I'll see if he can move the shelves in the bookcase DH assembled for CDs - we're going to need to buy more shelves for it and he put the shelves in top down. I can't put CDs in it that way - much safer to fill bottom up.
The garage installers come tomorrow morning - so I'm hopeful that this weekend we can get the trucks/Mustang moved and the rest of the tools - weather permitting. Still haven't gotten the rest of the furniture moved - it appears DH was hoping he and DS could do it themselves but it has rained every day while DS has home so...I'm really hoping he'll just hire the damn movers we agreed on in the first place.

I AM DONE! Three hours later and the freezer is clean!
I only tossed a small amount of been in there too long and never going to get eaten food. I did some rearranging as I was putting the food back in it. While I am still working on my own version of shelf cooking I have extra room for some freezer cooking I'd like to do (homemade meatballs, chili, etc.). My plan was to wait until the kids were back in school so I could get back on track with defrosting the freezer in the Fall and Spring, but like I said above I just couldn't take it anymore LOL.

I'm mid recluttering to declutter. Put together a storage shelf and got that situated and loaded up.
Workbench is almost done. I was feeling crappy prob because of the weather so my DS took it on for me. I went out to garage to check on how it was going and made him stop as it was more miserable than I imagined out, hot and humid wise. It'll get done when it gets done and then I can rearrange my tools and garage and make room for my car again.😂
We also rescued a foosball table the neighbors were ditching. My eldest works for youth services and thought they could use it there. Until I take it north, more clutter in my garage. But the kind I'm okay with, temporary and with a purpose and future place to go.

amom23 - well done! PLurker- that is good clutter indeed DS got the second bookcase built and I got ALL the boxes of books emptied and on the shelves. We took plastics and cardboard to recycling so that's out of the house. And I reorganised my freezers - I have an upright in the garage and then the fridge freezer (side by side). The original plan was to keep open packages, leftovers, and whatever was on the current week's menu in the fridge freezer and everything else in the upright. But my girls put away the groceries and unless they physically can't fit it in the fridge freezer - that's where they shove it. So I pulled a bunch of stuff out and moved it to the other freezer and sorted it out so I have shelves for meat, vegetables, fruit, and packaged foods (they share with the ice pops).

I got DH to finish purging things from his John Deere collection. He has nice, miniature tractors on display, plus some books. You know how it is - someone finds out you collect something and everyone gives you stuff. He is donating all the coffee cups, hats, a nightlight, and some pictures. Yay!

Someone will be happy to find those in a thrift store soon! A few years ago DH was doing his first round of cleaning out his office closet. In an old briefcase from school days he discovered a stack of old catalogs - John Deere, International Harvester, REI and Mustang. They were all from 1969-1970. He was headed towards the recycling bin and I intercepted them to run cost comparisons on eBay. WOW! Good thing I did! I sold almost all of them for over $300 total! Several John Deere things went to the UK. Who knew there were so many JD collectors the world over!

Several John Deere things went to the UK. Who knew there were so many JD collectors the world over! Before we moved, as we were purging my DS would bring down containers of stuff he no longer wanted to have me go through if anything I wanted to keep. More than once, I'd ask "you sure you don't want this?" and he's say no, you can have or donate. Then I'd show him (after the fact) how much I sold it for on ebay. 9f course I gave hime the profits, although he found it fair that I'd keep it. But he did change his tactics and would ask for my opinion on "you think anything in here is valuable?" before letting stuff go.😂 He got $50 for an unopened light saber key chain that he got years prior. "Santa" paid a buck or two off clearance. Star Wars is another crazy collector group. On the flip side, he reevaluated tossing a couple of old toys after an eBay search gave them value and the "right" and reason to love his childhood loves again. They are now display pieces. 😂

PLurker - It's amazing how much some of this old stuff is worth - and how quickly family members change their tunes on getting rid of stuff when they know the value! Kids toys, especially from the 80s & 90s, are typically hot right now. Those who grew up in that time frame are now having their own children. Much of it is the nostalgia factor - they want to share their childhood favorites with their own children. DD isn't very sentimental about many of her toys, though don't think about touching those Breyer horses, the barn and all that gear! I made between $200 and $300 selling her My Little Pet Shop collection. Right now I need to list her Polly Pocket collection. Not huge but would bring in $100-$150 I think. She waivers on the My Little Ponies, so I hold off. Also need to list about 15 Barbies.

**GypsyGirl** it certainly is crazy, the price of nostalgia. For the life of me I can't remember what but the first thing I sold that he "ditched" got bid up and sold for around 200 bucks and then I showed him. That's when he said "wow you made a lot on my old xxxx !". After fees all the money was his. Made lots for eldest too when sold their stuff no longer wanted, especially American Girl stuff (dolls, mini dolls, furniture, accessories etc) that they got from grandma that worked there and got a bunch of freebie/prizes as employee. I have to admit, the red formica dining set was hard to let go, so cute! Those were predictable though, the ones that make $$$ but you don't see coming are the fun ones.

woohoo!!!
Our garage is finished! DH emptied a bunch of boxes in his room. He threw away a whole BAG of trash up there also. DS and I went through some stuff that was his - he tossed some and is taking the rest home. Some of it wasn't his but DH's and most of that went in the trash too.
And the plan is to take the trailer over to the old house and finish clearing out the shed of DH's tools and putting them in the new garage this afternoon AND get at least 2 of the 4 (non-running) vehicles towed over here tomorrow (DH thinks he can get two of the trucks running enough to drive over 'soon')

Linda - Amazing progress ya'll are making! Are you settled in enough so that you can really begin to enjoy the new house? Not much happening here this weekend. I lost my motivation and still haven't found it. My mind is swirling with things I need/want to do, but just can't get going. Hopefully motivation shows up soon! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. shamrockpea - We all hope that your weeklong organization session was successful for you!

I’ve been tackling vacation laundry all week. I took advantage of the cool weather yesterday and spent the day cleaning out the closets at work (preschool) Three huge industrial trash can bags full of junk went straight into the dumpster. I’ve got three boxes of stuff ready to go to the teacher consignment store and a box of stuff to donate to boys and girls club school supply drive. So glad we did away with school supply lists this year and just charged a fee instead because so many parents buy the wrong thing or send in extra stuff and it just piles up. Now to try and find some motivation to tackle my home office/scrap room.

**GypsyGirl** - thank you - mostly settled - still need teh big furniture to get moved - couches, hutch, sideboard, headboard, my dresser, exercise bike etc...but otherwise yes. sorry about your mojo - it tends to ebb and flow ime natscraps - well done - that's a big project finished I found several boxes of CDs and loaded as many as possible into the new shelves for them - we need to buy additional shelves but it's a start. Five boxes emptied. Sorted through the homeschool shelf now we're just down to finishing English and put some books in donation, some to sell, and a bunch of papers I need to go through and sort into keep and toss.

we managed to get one (partial) trailer load from the old house to the new - tools mostly for the new garage. And filled up the trash bin at the old house with stuff from the shed also.
Sent a bunch of stuff home with DS - his weight set, 3 containers of canning jars, a cast iron waffle maker, 4 cast iron pans, quite a few books, and a couple of boxes of stuff (combination of his stuff, stuff we bought for him, and stuff he claimed from our decluttering)
trash pick up is tomorrow - I have one more bin to fill with branches before then. We have an insane number of bins - we had two at the old house and brought one of them over here. But the previous owner left six (smaller ones).
