Kind of shocking that it isnt required, just like flu vaccines. Flu vaccines aren’t always required, if we refuse a flu vaccine then you wear a mask for flu season.

It’s just so sad to think that they will either get covid or get the vaccine and seeing what the long haulers are going through who are lucky to have survived it makes me feel many who refuse the vaccine will have so much regret in the coming year.

I’m scheduled for mine next week. Originally only 20% of the staff wanted it. Documentation was printed out and questions were asked/answered. Now we are at about 75% acceptance. One of the administrative staff members stated she wasn’t getting it because they are putting GPS trackers in the vaccine. I cannot deal with idiots like this.
There are scientists and doctors a lot smarter than me, who know more medical info than I do, that are comfortable doing this. Not even a question...I’m getting it!

So all the people who get the vaccine from the same vial become a unique family as they are tracked together?!?!?! ::Rolling eyes::

It details what line too 😳 Just for clarity. I do plan to eventually get the vaccine if it becomes available to me. I am not a resident of the country I live in so I imagine I’ll be last on the list anyway. Fine by me because my general distrust means I want to see what it does to everyone else first.

How old is each of them, because depending on age, people get different flu vaccines. I have no idea, and it doesn't really matter because that was just an anecdote. There were enough examples linked further back where POC have clearly received TERRIBLE medical treatment (or in fact, not been treated and used as experiments) so I don't blame them for not trusting the government. Except that you/them sharing that info that is most likely false or at the very least misrepresenting what actually happened, is adding to the problems that we are having TODAY with people not trusting the vaccines. Yes, there has been mistreatment in the past and there is reason for people to be skeptical. But is spreading false information on the basis of adding to that fear helpful?

I was watching a YouTube video (Allan Pan) who does crazy invention stuff, and yesterday’s video was about a dart gun for vaccinations, All in jest. He mentioned something about compulsory vaccination and his camerawoman - who is black - said she was sceptical. Not of vaccines, but of the government. She said if she gets the vaccination, she wants the same one white people get. So off they trot to a Beverley Hills clinic, where he gets the vaccine, and then it’s the camerawomans’s turn....and they tried to give her a different one! For no reason! It is a systemic failure of governments that people do not trust them enough to get vaccinated. And I include my government and yours. I agree with others- not the Covid vaccine. If it was a flu shot, there are 2 different ones. I get one that is for those over 65.

Kind of shocking that it isnt required, just like flu vaccines. I have never been required to get a flu vaccine, it has just been strongly recommended. Do you mean it is mandatory for people in health care?

It hasn’t been mandatory for me, but before this past year if we refused a flu shot we were required to wear a mask our entire shift during flu season.

Do you mean it is mandatory for people in health care? It’s not 100% in all healthcare but a good majority of them require employees to get it. I’ve worked for a few. Masks were not an option. The only way you could get out of it was a documented allergy, pregnancy or if you were currently symptomatic of respiratory issues. And they kept track and would check back in so that the minute you were symptom free you got the vaccine. Other places offer you the mask option that you would have to wear everywhere at all times. I am not 100% sure about this but I believe there is some money involved if you get a certain compliance rate with flu vaccinations. Also as a nurse I have to provide documentation of all vaccines and if I don’t have it they would run a titer test prior to hiring. Which for me is always fun because I cannot hold immunity to rubella. Can’t tell you how many of those damn things I’ve had to have.

Do you mean it is mandatory for people in health care? That depends on where you work but yes for me. Only a physician documented allergy will get you out of a flu shot. They used to allow religious exemption, not sure that's still a thing or what you need to do, but I've had 22+ years of flu shots that were required. But flu shots are not a brand new type of vaccine, which is why they're not yet making the Covid vaccine mandatory.

There are conditions under which people are prohibited from getting the covid vaccine and one of those is listed as anaphylaxis. The only medical condition I'm aware of where anaphylaxis is a distinct possibility is Alpha Gal. A vegetarian could have Alpha Gal and not know it. I've no info on why anaphylaxis is a concern but my Alpha Gal hubby, who was planning on getting vaccinated next week, now won't be doing that.

This is where DH's company is at. 17% are volunteering to take it. And they all work with the elderly. Corporate is going to do some big push this coming week to educate more in hopes of more agreeing (they've done some education, but apparently not enough).

I work for a hospital/healthcare network. I just had a conversation with my neighbor who is a nurse there. She said she knew a number of nurses who originally decided on not getting them immediately, but many are now changing their minds. She was undecided but did a bunch of research on it and ultimately decided to get it. I am IT so it will be awhile before I am in the queue to get one.
We are not required to get flu shots but it is strongly recommended. If you do not you need to wear a mask at all times. We all have to wear masks at all times now. Surprisingly though, they announced that there was higher rate of employees getting the flu vaccination this year.
ETA - Also our state’s health commissioner stated during a question and answer session that it could not be mandated by employers at this time.
“A vaccine needs to be officially approved by the Food and Drug Administration, not just for emergency use before employers could require it for their employees. In the event that it was approved, employees would still be protected by contracts, anti-discrimination laws and protections within the Americans with Disabilities Act.”

The scare of infertility issues might be a factor. This has been shown to be inaccurate. It scares me that health care “professionals” are so ignorant. Not ignorant, just leery, speaking as a Health Care professional!!! I may or may not get it eventually....just won't find me first in line in the near future.

My 83 year old mom has an appointment next Tuesday for the first of her two shots.... Yay! Is she getting it with her regular provider? My 98 year old grandmother who lives at home it waiting impatiently. Hahaha. I am not sure New York’s schedule/grouping? Vermont has announced that it’s next group (1b) was going to be the older and the more vulnerable people (not in long term living places as they were part of the first group.) They have had some pushback, but we are an “old state” and they are trying to save lives at this point. It certainly isn’t easy and/or cut and dry on how to proceed with the vaccination groups and like everything some people will not be happy.

Kind of shocking that it isnt required, just like flu vaccines. Can't require this... yet. Give it some time. That will change I suspect when it is fully approved and we have the data from the first few million vaccinated. We were given stickers to wear on our IDs at work. That tells me there will eventually be consequences for not being vaccinated. It could be something as simple as the unvaccinated need to wear PPE all day while the rest of us can go mask free.
