I hope Biden puts in place a team of people that will monitor all social media, both mainstream and otherwise. Obviously the Trump administration didn't have that; otherwise, they would have known that 1,000,000 people didn't really want to attend his OK rally.

I believe it. They need huge police and military presence. And this time, no kid gloves. These people are insane and dangerous.

They will, but we don't have to make it easy for them, either.

Maybe not to you personally but there are fanatics and ideologist in most religions, including Christianity. Unfortunately we ( general we) turn a blind eye to Christian indoctrination yet we see it loud and clear in Islam for example. Fanatics in both these religions have the goal of attaining religious authority over everyone not just the " normal" ( for want of a better word), believers.
I bet you that a number of those people marching are " upstanding" members of society in their communities, who attend church every Sunday clutching their bibles and interpret that holy book far different to someone like you or me and are probably the biggest hypocrites that ever wore a pair of shoes.

That isn't an attack on all Christians but it's a reality of how influential an ideological belief can be and become, a danger to society.

I have spent a long time studying internet group behavior in general since something happened in my life (nothing to do with me personally) as a result of an online "mob." I have talked about this phenomenon many times on the old 2Peas and part of my studying was done there as well. It was very interesting to watch, and even be affected myself by, the group mob mentality. There is definitely a sort of "spell" that overtakes people who ordinarily would never behave like this. I call it "The Machine" and see it as a giant sphere that moves on its own momentum, independent of the laws of physics, crushing reason and logic as it goes where it will, until it exhausts its energy and stops. It happened on 2Peas on a tiny scale rather often. It's clear that for a lot of these people, the spell has been broken. Getting hunted down by internet detectives and being arrested by the FBI probably was not the thrill they thought it would be when it was all theoretical and they were all ensconced in their strange fever bubble..

There are clearly still enough for whom the spell lives on. Hopefully the government now takes it seriously and has made plans accordingly to protect the new administration, though the man in charge of the government is clearly not up to the task. Obviously the inauguration was going to be a small affair anyway because of COVID; now there is another reason to restrict people from gathering. I have been at an inauguration and stood for hours where those insurrectionists massed on the lawn. There's no reason to let people that close to our incoming president at this time, even if they held tickets (you must have a ticket to make it that far during a normal inauguration). Having walked the streets around the Capitol on the day of an inauguration, the security is quite good, much better than what we saw this past Wednesday. They have the capacity to make it even better. I hope that's the plan.

I worry about a Biden assassination on inauguration day. The Trumpers probably think killing him (and Harris) would keep Trump in office.

There is no open carry whatsoever in DC. You also have to have a specific permit from DC to concealed carry and may only do that with the permit for limited lawful purposes. Storming the Capitol or trying to kill the President/President-Elect and other Democratic lawmakers aren’t on that small list of approved purposes. 

The police present need to quickly arrest ANYONE who has a firearm and doesn’t have DC permit to concealed carry. That will help thin out the crowd.
