Inland Empire is still quiet. It’s supposed to pick up soon though. I’m hoping it doesn’t get as bad as last time here and I hope it calms down soon for everyone else. The wind speeds I’m seeing posted in here are crazy. I really hate Santa Anna winds. Stay safe everyone. I went to CSUSB and over by Jack Brown building, we would get wind up to 50+ mph. NASA even came out to study the wind tunnel effect. Over by U-Hall would get crazy windy too. We have a slight breeze right now, max 5pmh. Cloudy too and cooler. Hope it rains earlier than Sat!

We have a slight chance of rain this afternoon but I’m sure it won’t be more than drizzle if we even get any.. I really hope we start getting rain. Here we are looking to set a record as we have only had 2 inches since July. We live on a canyon so winds scare me because of fire danger. While I have been enjoying our warm weather I would really love a few days of rain especially if it was enough and slow enough to really sink in vs just flooding and ending up in the storm drains.

Yup it’s windy out there. Those are some pretty good winds! I am a midwesterner, and it is windy a lot, so you get used to it. A 50 MPH wind would be something you would notice, but not totally uncommon. We had over 50 MPH winds last week with snow! So that is fun... not so much. 7" of snow that blew hard. The deracho last summer went through us, but it wasn't terrible. Probably 50-70 mph winds that were sustained. One of my kids lives on the opposite side of the state and they had 130 MPH winds sustained for 40 minutes. That was a mess! It was terrible over there. It was so weird when i moved to PA to find that there was almost never any real wind to speak of (in my area). Took a little getting used to. Now when i go back home i find the wind in IA super annoying and cold. I got off a plane one Feb for my grandma's funeral and just about lost my breath. But listening to the wind outside makes me feel all cozy inside. I can't believe i used to go running and stuff in some of those March winds--half the run would be a struggle and the other half a literal breeze depending on which way the wind was blowing at your back or face! And yes, the snow blowing across the roads...ugghh I really don't miss that. One year a blizzard blew the glass out of a bedroom window and snow piled up inside until I found it and could get something to block it. It was so cold in that room after that that I could simply sweep up the snow. I could go on and on... I sound like one of those old people talking about the snow drifts back in their day and how it would be chest-high walking to school...but I wouldn't be lying or even exaggerating! #midweststrong 😁

Update, according to my phone, wind is at 18mph. Newsflash: that’s a big fat lie. ETA also, I have a bad feeling that some of that loud clunking I’m hearing out there is things hitting my car. Winds have gotten up to 70 here, we lose trees every year! Stay safe!!!

since I am on the west side of a hill in san francisco (facing the ocean), we did not get the winds last night. I'm sure if I was on twin peaks a couple miles away, I would have felt it.
we have a big tree across the street we always look at when the winds howl off the ocean. these east winds are bad though.

Hope you are okay lucyg. We had high winds last week, gusts to 70 mph. There was a big grass fire in the middle of nowhere, several outbuildings burned but no fatalities.

Last Wednesday, we got hit with 140km winds out of the blue. And rain. It was crazy! I wondered the same thing about hurricane locations.
Glad you are safe!

Okay, it really didn’t look as bad out there this morning as I expected. (Thanks for holding my hand last night, you all.) I think all the noise came from these hard little pods that grow on the trees in my court. I don’t know what they’re called, but they look like COVID molecules, only they’re a couple of inches big. They start out green, but this time of year, they’re brown and hard and ready to blow out of the trees. And there are thousands of them out in the court now. So I think it was those things hitting the roof (and the car) that made all the noise. Also a few branches are down, but that seems to be the worst of it. ~summer~, you be careful with that redwood. My parents had a huge redwood out front of their house for years, but it blew down during a big windstorm years ago. Luckily it fell sideways across our driveway, the neighbors’ driveway, and their lawn. If it had fallen backwards it would have taken out the whole front of the house. (so ... I guess we’ve had worse wind storms and I AM a big baby, come to think of it)

We had a blizzard on Friday. Wind gusts up to 55 Mph. We have giant trees in front and back. I love the sound but always worry about those trees! I didn’t go to work because I didn’t want to get blown sideways on the highway. That’s scary! Lot of semis did get blown off the road in IA and NE.

It is starting to blow a little bit here. Not real hard, but there are palm fronds on the road, and I drove by an empty lot and the “tumbleweeds” were blowing on the street. Not as bad as the rest of the state. Stay safe everyone!

I am so ready for these winds to be done. It’s not as bad here but enough. We had several closed umbrellas one pulled a heavy table six feet. They have all been removed from their stands now and moved several items we don’t normally have to secure.

Yosemite is closed today for repairs - I just saw pictures of sweet Wawona - it’s ravaged, looks like a hurricane hit it

Lucyg,
Those are probably sweet gum pods or sycamore nuts making all that racket!

Well, I'm embarrassed over my earlier "everything's great here" post. The winds are knocking over pots on the patio and I will be shocked if it doesn't rain.

just drove along the embarcadero.. no boats on the water but the coast guard. high whipped up white caps.. so windy. my husband went down to our boat in Brisbane, and threw more lines on and put up the fenders. he said he could not pull in on a line due to very high wind pressure against the boat. glad he went.

I was in hurricanes but when I was much younger. We had an interior hallway that we slept in. Scary stuff. DS texted me this morning that he barely slept because his townhouse was shaking. It wasn't bad here but the wind has gotten worse throughout the day. Supposed to calm down tomorrow.

Love that place. I know it has been closed all year for repairs but these were new *ravages*?

My power went out 15 times in 15 hours. And those were only the ones I could count because I was awake. 4 times in the hour I had for lunch.

My neighborhood has a ton of these trees, and they pose quite the risk when I'm running in the dark. Thanks, both of you. I am a complete ignoramus about plants, flowers, trees, etc. I know roses and sunflowers ... everything else is a mystery. We’re talking about the stupid spiky things, right? They’re super dangerous when there’s lots on the ground because you slide on them like ice. I can post a picture if need be. ETA I remembered the existence of google and looked them up. Sweet gum balls, commonly also called liquid amber, which is apparently related but non-fruiting. Warning, I will have forgotten all of this by tomorrow.

It is still crazy windy here.

I'm nowhere near California, I wish sun, beach, sigh. Anyway, ugg we had a wind warning start last night looks like it might go until half way through tonight. Howling wind is bad enough, crazy wind sucks. The beach is 2+ hours from where I live in CA. I do have a lake 5 min from my house tho and the weather has been amazing! Yesterday was 71, sunday was 73 and saturday was 72. We're supposed to be cooling off this week to the low 60's. I might freeze.

lucyg “We’re talking about the stupid spiky things, right? They’re super dangerous when there’s lots on the ground because you slide on them like ice. I can post a picture if need be.” My neighborhood was hard hit by those and when I take my walks there are areas it feels like an obstacle course. And when I step on one it gets stuck. Our front garden was covered in palm fronds (we don’t have any palm trees) and other people’s trash. Of course the winds would coincide with trash day. We are in the corner of a cul-de-sac and everything lands in our garden.

This Wind Map website is kind of nifty! I wish I had thought to post it when your winds were higher yesterday. When you view the actual map on the website, the winds move. You can click on the map to zoom it in. Looks like it's blowing right up my skirt! LOL

It’s been super windy here in San Diego, and I got a call from the manager of The Redwoods (Wawona rental property managers) that my house is one of 12 they manage that was damaged by the winds. I’m waiting on pics now. Hopefully it’s minor.
