How am I supposed to sleep tonight? It sounds like my entire roof is blowing away at the moment. There are windows over my bed and I’m kind of afraid they’re going to blow in at some point. I feel like I should get dressed (in case of real emergency) and try to sleep downstairs instead.
How do people in hurricane country stand this?

I agree. We are on the east side of the northern part of the Santa Cruz mountains and it is so loud!!!

Update, according to my phone, wind is at 18mph. Newsflash: that’s a big fat lie. ETA also, I have a bad feeling that some of that loud clunking I’m hearing out there is things hitting my car.

mom , just wind. They warned us we’d have a couple of days of high winds. It’s just the windiest I remember ever. ETA, wildfire danger, too. When I watched the news earlier, they reported on a fire in the hills already.

Thanks! Just what I wanted to hear. I’m going downstairs to see what it looks like out there, and how many of my roof tiles are on the ground.

I hope your car's ok Lucy! And that you can get some sleep. We're getting hit by storm Christophe in the UK but last night wasn't nearly as bad as we expected...I think it veered further east or maybe didn't come quite as far south as predicted but we have warnings until Thursday of wind, rain and snow (further north)
Let us know how you're doing?

Hi, sorry, I dozed off. Peeked outside and it looked okay out there so I may have been overreacting a bit. But it still sounds (periodically) as though it’s ripping the roof apart. I’m going back to sleep now. Thanks for talking me through this, you guys. I’m being a big baby.

Was totally unaware that it was going to be windy but it definitely is blowing! Thinking the power is going to go out soon!

when it get windy, it is so unsettling. yup. we live south of Phoenix, and when it's really windy (which doesn't happen too often, thankfully) it makes my DH and I both anxious. But where we live, there's not really any chance of wildfires... that would make me more anxious. Hopefully nothing like that has happened in California! and hopefully you got some sleep, lucyg!

I can pretty much sleep through everything, didn't hear the winds til this morning when I woke up. I thought something was running in the roof til I realized it was the wind.

I’m in calaveras county and we have a light breeze. No real wind and nothing sustained.

I'm nowhere near California, I wish sun, beach, sigh. Anyway, ugg we had a wind warning start last night looks like it might go until half way through tonight. Howling wind is bad enough, crazy wind sucks.

Omg it was/is unbelievable!! I couldn’t sleep all night - I like to sleep with my door to the outside partially open - everything was creaking and blowing all night.
I have a huge redwood tree outside my door too - I keep getting freaked out a branch was going to drop. I’m about to go run on the ridge of the hills - wish me luck lol

Yup it’s windy out there.
Where I live in Sonoma County it wasn’t that windy at all. Knock on wood.

Southern CA might just get blown off the map. We are really ramping up right now. We have been told to expect 70-75mph gusts for the the next 24+ hours.
It's warm out making the fire potential too real of a possibility, and the humidity is in single digits. Ugh.

Super windy and it woke me up a few times last night. Didn't help that it's also been warm so I left my bedroom window cracked.

Yup it’s windy out there. Those are some pretty good winds! I am a midwesterner, and it is windy a lot, so you get used to it. A 50 MPH wind would be something you would notice, but not totally uncommon. We had over 50 MPH winds last week with snow! So that is fun... not so much. 7" of snow that blew hard. The deracho last summer went through us, but it wasn't terrible. Probably 50-70 mph winds that were sustained. One of my kids lives on the opposite side of the state and they had 130 MPH winds sustained for 40 minutes. That was a mess! It was terrible over there.

I’m trying to drive to the trail I run at - but the road is now blocked by crews clearing downed branches...
There are power outages all over the place.
I’ve been hiking a ton and the ground is pretty damp I’m hoping the fire danger is low.

It's been crazy windy here in Sonoma County. There is a fire up near the Geysers that started last night, but hopefully they get it out before it spreads too far. On top of that we had a 2.7 earthquake at about 8:20pm with the epicenter about 1/2 mile from our house! It was such a jolt. Two people yesterday told me it was earthquake weather with the warm air and wind and darn it, it was!

I am in Orange County and it hasn't started here yet but the wind you are getting up north must be heading our way. Edison is announcing that they are going to turn off power in the fire areas again.

The wind is really bad in SoCal, too. I hate the Santa Anas. Hate them. Especially with the dry winter we've had.

Looks like San Diego is going to miss this event, at least in the coastal areas. We've dropped about 20 degrees (mid 80s to mid 60s) in the last couple days and my eyes and skin are thrilled that the humidity levels are back up around 70% from 15. Stay safe!

Inland Empire is still quiet. It’s supposed to pick up soon though. I’m hoping it doesn’t get as bad as last time here and I hope it calms down soon for everyone else. The wind speeds I’m seeing posted in here are crazy. I really hate Santa Anna winds. Stay safe everyone.
