I'm so bored with cooking, eating at home, etc. I had a flier from Hello Fresh...what i'm wondering is can you choose the meals you're getting from them or do they end up picking?
Also please tell me which of these boxed food/meal companies do you like the best?
Yesterday I was thinking, maybe I should buy a new cookbook and start at the beginning and cook through it...boxed meals sounds more manageable

I do Hello Fresh occasionally. You can choose your meals, but they have meals that they automatically send if you were to forget. The meals we have received have been really good. I think Hello Fresh is great for someone who likes to cook but doesn't like to grocery shop.

My daughter gets meals from everyplate.com and has been very happy. I think it’s cheaper than a lot of the other companies too, $4.99 per serving.

From a UK delivery I found Hello Fresh, convenient and useful for a couple of days a week when I was working full time. I liked that all the ingredients were there to cook a full dish, even down to the spices etc and portioned/weighed out all ready to go. They're convenient in so far as I might see something in a recipe book that appeals to me but it needs different ingredients to what I would have in my store cupboard on a regular basis. If I bought some of these from a store I might not use them all up and end up throwing the rest away. Spices as am example.
You can pick out which meals you want here in the UK. It does give you a choice of different meals that you might otherwise not bother because you don't need some of the ingredients for other dishes. I suppose you can describe it as having more of a variety of dishes than you would otherwise have because you only have enough ingredients for that one meal. I've never had a bad batch of ingredients from them, it's all pretty fresh. Have you looked at their website?

I started with Hello Fresh and am now also getting Blue Apron. Hello Fresh, better packaging, lots of BUTTER, more complicated recipes. Blue Apron, has WW food choices! less choices per week, easier recipes. Both food clubs are delicious, you stay out of the grocery store. After using both for 3 weeks we decided to stay with Blue Apron and cancel Hello Fresh.

We did Hello Fresh several years ago- portions were too small, meals took too long to cook, and recipes were a little more complicated than i liked.
We are doing Home Chef right now and we are loving it (after one week lol). Plenty for 2 people, recipes have normal ingredients and generally dont take too long and even the expert level recipes are not hard.
We arr planning to do this lomg enough to compile a decent list of recipes thay we can then make on our own.

I’m doing Marleyspoon (partnership with Martha Stewart) and I LOVE it. Yes you pick your recipes (they suggest recipes then you can change them) the produce has been super fresh and I am very impressed with the recipes and flavor. My friend recommended it after trying a bunch - it was much better than the other ones she tried. marleyspoon.com/

I've done Blue Apron, Hello Fresh and Every Plate. Hands down my favorite has been Every Plate and it is far cheaper than the others. All of the ingredients are simple common things and you make such yummy sauces. I can't say I had ever tried very many rice bowls before, but they are my favorites and I have recreated them many times.

But my friend loves home chef. She gave me a binder full of the recipes they had used and it did look like the meals would be good and something I make.

We've tried a bunch.... Hello Fresh, Every Plate (from what I understand, it's the same company), Green Chef, Home Chef, Blue Apron, Gobble, Martha and Marley Spoon, Dinnerly, Freshly, Sun Basket, Purple Carrot..... I think that's all the ones we've tried. We liked them all. We order the vegetarian meals. Sometimes I take shortcuts if the prep time seems too long. I don't use the spicy ingredients and give them to a friend who enjoys spicy food. I suggest checking out Groupon for great deals, if you're a first time customer. We have never paid full price for any of the boxes we ordered. You can always get your first box for a great price. Once we get the discounted box, I cancel the plan and wait until they send me an offer via email. If it's not at least half price, I don't get it. a few weeks ago, Hello Fresh had an offer to come back for 75% off . We got a total of 12 meals for less than $30. We have never had any issues with quality. The one time we tried Martha and Marley Spoon, there were delivery issues. Fed Ex said the box got damaged and they destroyed it. Martha sent out another box, and the same thing happened. We did receive our meals on the third try. Other than that, no issues with quality or delivery.

We have used Hello Fresh for 15 months. We just have two adults in the house. The meals take anywhere from 25-40 minutes to prepare. I open up the bag, snip the top off of the food packages and it all goes pretty quickly. I have a potato slicer, so those days I use that and knock off a few minutes of chopping. Most meals that aren't single servings like a burger have leftovers. I think in 15 months I have had two meals I didn't care for and we get three meals a week. It has cut down grocery shopping in less than half. Twice it has been one day late due to shipping issues and the last time they credited us half of the shipping.
You can go on the Hello Fresh site and see the actual recipes and try them out for yourself. I like that there is very little waste of food. I laminate my favorite recipes.

My grocery store sells Home Chef kits, and I've made a couple of recipes from their website. The kits are fine in a pinch, or to try something new, but I haven't really loved anything I've tried. They're $17-20 per kit in the store, and for just a little bit more, we can order Panera or Noodles, and I don't have to cook or clean the kitchen. Also, there's never been enough for leftovers, and SO usually has dinner leftovers for lunch. So, I just don't find it to be a cost effective addition to my grocery lineup.

We have used Hello Fresh for 15 months I was happy with Hello Fresh also. Although I am not currently using it, I was never disappointed in a meal. I stopped because I had more time to cook, and I was on a very restricted diet for a while. Sometimes the Sodium counts were way too high, and I didn't want to analyze every meal before I made my selections. I just saw today, a special offer come up on one of my feeds for 12 meals free. Please search for their special offers before you try. They usually have some special going for you to try.

I'm so happy to hear that people have had good experiences with Hello Fresh. I got my Mom a gift card for Hello Fresh for Cmas because they like to cook, but don't like going to store unless absolutely necessary these days (what a change from a few years ago when she would shop every day!) I would like to try it just to try different recipes, but keep balking at the price for a family of 4.

I would like to try it just to try different recipes, but keep balking at the price for a family of 4. I think it is good for two. The money we save from not overbuying and throwing away items makes it pay for itself, but for four people, it isn't such a good deal. You can find the recipes on the hello Fresh website to try. I really like their tacos and burgers for the sauces. I have also been trying to find some of the spices (like Frank's Red Hot) in powder form. When I get a new spice packet from Hello Fresh, I cut out the back and save it so I know what is in it when I make it again.

I’ve tried Hello Fresh and Goodfood. We prefer HF and the 2-serving is plenty for the three of us.

Have had Blue Apron for about 4 years now. We just can't quit it We only do 1/every two weeks - that's just enough variety for us. LOVE IT.

I’ll occasionally pick up a couple pre-packaged meals at our local Harris Teeter. I think it’s Home Chef. We’ve enjoyed many of the selections. On those days it’s great not to have to think about dinner until 4 or 5pm! Plus the recipes are dinner-for-two. I miss my favorite empty nest magazine “Cooking for Two.”

Sun Basket was my favorite. Although we’ve been doing Home Chef lately (Sun Basket was too foodie for my dd). I just love that two nights a week I don’t have to think about what’s for dinner.

We used both Hello Fresh and Blue Apron for a few months a couple years ago. It was super easy to skip weeks with both and select our meals. We still use a couple of the recipes (especially Korean Tacos ) regularly. I have a couple of big eaters (DH & DS) that meant the meals were a bit light for our needs which was my main reason for stopping the service.

We are currently using Hello Fresh and we are happy with what has been in the box!
I love that I don’t have to think about dinner - it is all there and with minimal waste.

My daughter gets meals from everyplate.com and has been very happy. I think it’s cheaper than a lot of the other companies too, $4.99 per serving. I have a friend who recommended everyplate over the other meal delivery services (she's tried them all). She said it was cheaper and had more "normal" food that her meat & potatoes type husband will eat.

My daughter was told that Hello Fresh owns EveryPlate, as well as a few other meal kit companies. She has recently switched to Every Plate and is happy with the food and happy with the price.

i recently started hello fresh and i like it. although a recipe that says 30 mins can take me an hour and 20 mins... i guess i am a slow chopper?? the food is good, i can always find 3 i like and even if i miss selection cutoff, the defaults have always been pretty generic that we will eat.
i got a free week and they give me coupons to give others to try. i will stop soon and start again in a couple of months. i am feeling inspired as some of the recipes i can easily recreate.

We’ve been getting boxed meals for the last several years and we love them. And they’ve been such a help in the pandemic because we can add extra meals when needed.
This is mostly applicable to Canada but.... we used to love chefs plate but when they were bought by hello fresh they became a bit more basic and the meat quality reduced, and for some reason lots of taco options. We tried hello fresh, it’s fine, probably geared more toward families. We tried a couple other companies. We’ve been using GoodFood the past year and it’s hands down the best, probably similar to Marleyspoon in the US. Good quality meat, lots of recipe choices and delicious. If anyone in Canada wants to give them a try I almost always have discount codes.
