Reading the Godiva stores closing thread made me wonder...how often do people go to the mall?
I can't remember the last time I actually shopped in the mall. I don't like the crowds of people (pre-covid) and none of the stores really appeal to me anymore. I go into JCPenney every 6-7 weeks for my hair cut/color but rarely buy anything else when I'm there.
The stores I frequent are all outside of the mall and I shop online more than in brick and mortar stores.

I live in the city and have to drive to the suburbs to go to a mall. I’m guessing it’s been 4-ish years since I’ve been to one.

I went to Eddie Bauer in November. It's technically in the mall, but I went only to that store. They had a new winter coat I wanted. So while I was there I bought myself a few things, and DS a shirt and a jacket for Christmas. Before that, I honestly thing it was last February I was in a mall, but again to go to one specific store only.

An indoor mall? Never.
There is a large outdoor shopping area (for local peas - Broadway Plaza) that I probably swing by a few times per year.

My favorite local department store is in the mall, so I go about once every two weeks or so. I generally don’t go to any other stores when I am there.
I do a lot of online shopping, but I enjoy shopping in person and trying on clothes every once in awhile. I’m afraid that by the time we have covid under control there are not going to be many brick and mortar stores left, and even fewer malls that are open and thriving.

Pre Covid, maybe once every 2-3 months. I don't particularly love going, but SO likes to walk around. Also, there is a dumpling place there that I love, so that's my incentive.

It’s been over a month now. I have enough clothes to wear and shoes and makeup. There is nothing else I need.

Maybe twice a year? And usually just to get out of the house. I do most of my shopping online. I’ll go to the mall for Barnes and noble and stop in a few stores. But like I said maybe twice a year.

hmmm... some of our malls are outdoor plaza-type malls. We went to Portillos at one of the malls a few weeks ago, but I don't count that, since it's not an indoor mall. There are a few 'indoor' malls around Phoenix; I think it's been at least 6-9 months since I've been inside one of those. And typically I would only go in to get to the store I want, then get out as soon as possible.

Almost never, even before covid. I would go to go see movies and that is also a rare outing for me.
I will admit to going to the mall once since March. Ours are all outdoor and I went to go take my daily walk because I was dreadfully bored of my neighborhood. And I went early in the morning before most of the stores were open. I would not have picked that as a walking course if it were indoor.

Precovid I lived a couple miles from a large indoor mall. Every few months I’d hit a couple of the anchor stores (JCP, Macy’s, but rarely go into the mall. Now I live in an area with a nice outdoor “mall”. It has a nice grass area in the middle with benches, a fountain. So much nicer!

Twice a year for about 20 min. Just long enough to get my wedding ring serviced. I HATE indoor malls.
We do like outdoor malls, but really haven’t been out and about at those either since March. We have one close that we love to walk around when it’s nice out.

Our mall is really sad and pathetic and I never go there. I haven't been at all since our Macy's closed almost 4 years ago. There is a restaurant we like and eat at (pre Covid, haven't been there since before March) but they have an outside entrance so we haven't actually been inside the mall in many years. Even when Macy's was still here, I used their entrance and never went out on the mall. We do have a Dillards that moved to where Macy's was but I rarely shop there. Our Penney's is closing in March. I can't imagine our mall will even be open much longer. I think they are in bankruptcy.
*Edited to add that I forgot there was a movie theater on the mall and we sometimes went there to see movies but not since March. But even that was rare because we have two other nicer theaters in town that we prefer to go to.

I was already an infrequent mall shopper prior to 2020, maybe 3-4 times a year (if that). The outdoor centers have really been improving the stores and brands, so if possible I want to park in front of the store (or very close by). There are two Bath and Body Works near me. I drive past the closest one because it is in the mall while the other one is in a strip center. Those bottles of soap are heavy so I'm not lugging them any further than I have to!

I used go about once a year during the Christmas shopping season just to see the decorations and find something I might not ordinarily find but I haven't been for a couple of years now.

Probably once a year when I take my kids to Christmas shop for each other. My teens do go once every 3-4 months though (pre-covid). It's entertainment for them.

In our former town we lived about a 10-minute drive to the mall. To go to a REAL indoor mall near us here it's about 40 minutes. But the one here is spectacular! You could get lost and never be found again ~ well, almost! The only time DH and I go is for Christmas shopping in December. When we first moved up we went for the first time and spent hours there including eating lunch at the fabulous food court. I wanted to buy a bed set for one of our guest bedrooms and wanted a white beadboard one from Pottery Barn so that was our main purpose.

The last time I went to the mall was prom dress shopping with my daughter - that's unfortunately still hanging in her closet unworn. We'd go every couple months pre-Covid.

I guess because I was a young person in the late 70s an early 80s, I typically love to go to the mall. Walking around, looking at stuff, watching people - I've always loved it all. Not that I could afford or bought that much stuff, but you do have to have new shoes and clothes occasionally. Maybe it's because my dad was a department store manager, so I grew up with a mall being a big part of my life.
But it's not fun to go to a decaying mall, which narrows the field down a lot nowadays. It seems really sad. Also not wild about the couple of times a year that the news reports everyone streaming out of the mall because somebody was shooting at somebody else. That's sad for many reasons.
I envy those of you who say they order everything online. Maybe I just have a weirdly-shaped body, but even in a store I can pick up two pairs of jeans the same size made by the same company, and one will fit, but the other won't. I can't imagine buying my whole wardrobe (haha, like i have a wardrobe) online. I'd be a Glamour "don't" for sure. More power to you if it works for you, but some of us need to try the clothes on, and it seems so inefficient to order a bunch of stuff and return most of it. Much easier to take a bunch of stuff in the dressing room and put most of it back.
Guess I'm just a dinosaur, er, product of my times.
E.T.A. Haven't been near a mall since COVID started.

Twice a year to get my ring cleaned and checked. I have to do it for the warranty. I buy a new pair of shoes every time I go.

Very rarely do I go to a mall and that's because I'm not counting trips to my Target which is technically in a mall. I was a SAHM when my boys were little and we went all the time to play at the indoor play areas or just to walk around and be somewhere that wasn't home in the winter. These days (pre-Covid) I don't have much of a need or a desire to go because there aren't many mall stores that I want to shop at.

I HATE the mall so I am in and out as soon as possible That. I went in December with younger DD to get a gift at Bath & Body Works for her sister. Otherwise, can't recall the last time I had been in one.

Pre-COVID, maybe 3x per year. I am actually looking forward to going window shopping, once I am vaccinated. It will be fun to grab a coffee, shop, have lunch - like a real person!
