It was confusing because an alert was released for a second location later on the day and it was unclear if it was related or not or what. It is not spring break for CU; it’s cancelled this year due to Covid. They stated in the press briefing that the public was not in danger and that the incident on 17th street (?) was not related. Actually they said it was related but not a public danger. Confusing.

They've identified the officer
"The Boulder police officer who was fatally shot at the King Soopers supermarket today was identified as Eric Talley by Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold.
Talley was the first officer to respond at the scene, according to Herold. He was 51 years old and had served with the Boulder Police Department since 2010"

Do you think two unrelated or related violent incidents within miles of each other within hours is more or less comforting? Whoever was just talking on cnn after the later press briefing said it was related but not an ongoing threat. Still confusing if they are one incident or not. In the absence of information from hundreds of mikes away with active shooter situations ongoing for hours without information and the second warnings sent about the street your kid lives on then little information at the press conference it was confusing. But now it really doesn’t matter because I’ve found out my my son is ok while trying to understand the two separate warnings mikes apart and 10 others aren’t ok and it’s all heartbreaking and nothing will change in this country.

The 2nd location could have been the suspects home that they needed to search or could have been a friend/fami6member they needed to be sure wasn't involved

I have a ton of family in Boulder and I found it comforting. The entire situation is sad, but one active shooter that is in custody makes me feel better. I watch CNN with a grain of salt. I would much rather listen to the people at the press conference for my info. Even my local Colorado Springs station was speculating on things and then saying they only wanted to give us the facts. It just riles everyone up.

Going off the alerts the BOULDER pd put out to peoples phones, just saying the news conference didn’t offer any clarity to the different locations hours apart that were related but weren’t. CU Alert 2: Police asking people near 17th & Grove to shelter in place while they respond to report of armed, dangerous individual. alerts.colorado.eduThis doesn’t seem like just checking a house. Especially not if you live in the immediate area.

So, are we done with this one?
Anyone take any action?
Are we waiting for the next one?
We DON'T HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS.
Most of the developed world does not DIE like this.

How are you CO Peas holding up this morning? Thinking of you all, this is so awful. Grocery shopping. These people were buying food and living their lives.

It's a little surreal in our house this morning. We are only about 5 miles from this location (in Superior) and saw all the police officers rushing into Boulder as we were at the dentist. I think I'm still in shock honestly. I had planned to go do my grocery shopping in Boulder today (as I normally do) at Trader Joe's. However, now I'm second guessing myself because I have my 7 year old with me (spring break this week). I'm just heartbroken for those 10 lives.

It is crazy... a news conference is about to start so hopefully I can catch that.
Boulder is a straight shot from where I live although its around 20 miles.. so pretty far.. I usually only go there for Trader Joes and a family owned hardware store (McGuckin) Boulder is usually so busy I try not to go there unless there is a purpose. I do go to Superior a lot to meet friends on Friday nights at their house. I believe the dad has an office there. But they are okay..

My Senators are Democrats and I write them. They are (IMO) the best Senators in Congress. I donate to these causes. Lauren Boebert is an elected congressperson from Colorado. I haven't heard her statement, but I imagine it's like every damn Republican. Guns kill people. People who can go out and buy a gun and then, the very same day go and kill people (talking about Georgia here), can only be stopped when Congress and states stop them. How the heck can we get that done? I have marched on DC several times. I feel HELPLESS.

As long as republicans REFUSE To do anything regarding any/all gun control legislation, then yes, sadly, this is how we will have to live. Lauren Boebert—“Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) campaign sent out a fundraising email to her supporters encouraging them to say “Hell No” to any gun control measures in Washington on Monday night just hours after a mass shooting in her state left ten people including a police officer dead.” Republicans don’t care about blue lives either. So very hypocritical that they will blast Democrats as “loving to kill babies via abortion” and will legislate the hell to control women’s bodies and try to ban abortion and women’s health, yet they continue to support anyone having any type of gun, bonus points if they’re white, any white man who screams that his rights are being taken away. Such fucking bullshit. I’m so god damned done with republicans.

The law enforcement folks at the press conference focused on "justice" for THIS incident. That is the BARE MINIMUM of what we need. We need REMEDIES to prevent the NEXT incident. Not only justice for this incident. We are all sitting ducks. Our families are AR-15 fodder. CALL. DONATE. WRITE. CALL. MARCH. CALL. VOLUNTEER. CALL. Get Manchin and Sinema to get off the Democratic butts and move House gun legislation forward and vote FOR Senate bills like www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/736.

The shooters name is Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa. How long do y'all think it will be before this mass murder is labeled as terrorism by the pro-gun people?

Does anyone ever wonder why the shooters are never Black men? And to take it even further if you really think about it who has the most reasons to be angry enough to commit mass murders? Other men have it really easy in comparison so why are they so angry?
What would have happened if gun control was meant to keep people safe and not keep Black people from being armed.
Follow the money? No. Follow the disenfranchised Black citizen and see where the impact will be for everyone else 🤷🏾♀️Injustice trickles down.

Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121
I encourage you to call any senator or representative and remind them that you are a financial constituent even if you’re not a geographic constituent. In other words, you, like all the money boys, can donate to the current representatives or their primary opponents. Get on record as being disgusted with the way we live and die in the United States.

The new republican “talking point” for this mass shooting.
“It’s what is in someone’s heart...
“To say we have 'normalized mass shootings' is to trivialize what happened. I'm fairly certain 99% of the approximately 72 million people in this country who own guns are just as upset about this, if not more. I say more, because this (word I cannot use in polite conversation) is a disgrace to responsible gun owners. This had 0 to do with gun safety, and everything to do with the EVIL in someone's heart. You cannot legislate your way out of hate. No guns, the (again word I cannot use) would have driven a car into a large group of people.”
This bullshit rhetoric is making its rounds. I’ve read on our local city’s Facebook page when our mayor spoke out about the shooting, then again on the state representatives comments.
Lots of the original/no gun control people repeating it’s what in a persons heart that is killing people.
Makes me sick.

Every week. People still die, people's lives are still disrupted. The murders add up. We understand the cause of that violence. But that isn’t what I asked. What makes white men so prone to mass shootings?

what i also hate are the copycat killers. one was bad enough but some idiot has to copycat the crime and put more people in danger. was this guy the copycat for last week's massacre or are we to anticipate a copycat for him?
