I just received AE email to apologize for the delayed shipping of the DD preorder. I am so mad! I like how one of the options is for the customer to pay the additional $15-30 to receive the kit faster with expedited shipping. I understand it's not her fault that shipping was delayed with the album but it definitely isn't my fault! I paid $99 for this and really need more than 4 days to set it up before I begin using it. I emailed customer service and suggested they send the kit now and the album when they arrive. Am I the only one upset by this?

I did not order the DD, but I agree with you.
I love your idea of shipping the kit now and album when it gets in vs waiting for the album to get in to ship it all at once.

I will admit that I am not really a prepper. I do print out the templates every year, and sometimes I might stick a little washi tape on them or something, but I usually do not do anything with my DD kit until I have pictures. So I personally am not that annoyed.
However.
I am a reasonably long-time subscriber at Studio Calico (I think about 3.5 years now), and while they have always had Issues, the number of Issues seems to be multiplying and the attitude there about it stinks. The kits, particularly the stamps and embellishments in them, have grown steadily worse; they send out things that are simply defective; they have had a number of weird manufacturing issues; there was that "oh no no internet" issue with reveal a few months ago; the list goes on. Honestly, even though I have tried the PL cards from a lot of places and really prefer the SC cards, this DD fiasco and how they are handling it may be the last straw for me. If you are a business and you have a time-sensitive project that is supposed to be in the hands of your customers by X date, you'd better do more than post a reactionary "oops, sorry, I guess part of the kit is trapped in customs, maybe" email after a bunch of puzzled complaints. I get that they don't want to ship everything twice and lose the money. But I imagine they are going to lose a lot more money going forward if they tick people off this much -- keeping current customers is a more profitable business model than getting occasional business from newbies, and they are going to end up turning off their current customer base.
I really like Ali Edwards and can't fathom why, after the issue last year with the DD and her stamps, she would have gotten in bed with these people.

I am NOT happy. They certainly took my money on time. I ordered it the day the preordering came out. I am only successful in finishing my DD if I preplan and get those foundation plans done. Otherwise it sits for years. I will not be ordering again.

I can't even believe there's an issue with the DD, AGAIN! I did not order it, but I feel bad for those of you that did. There has been issues each year, for the past several years.
When are they saying you're supposed to get it?

This is the email I received....
Dear Loyal Customer, We just wanted to take a moment to share with you some updates regarding the December Daily® kits and to explain to you why shipment has not taken place. As you may have seen on the Studio Calico message boards, we have been waiting for one essential piece of your December Daily® kit to arrive to our warehouse, which happens to be the album. Months back, during the original planning of this kit, our goal was for these albums to arrive to our warehouse mid October. Due to a shipping error from our supplier along with an issue in customs, it then looked as if we would receive these albums the first week of November, which would allow us to still meet our promised shipping date of mid-November. We were just recently informed that in addition to the labor strikes and congestion at the port due to holiday traffic, our shipment was flagged and detained by customs officials. Part of the shipment container has been released, which gives us hope that the portion of the shipment that contains the albums will be released within the next 24 hours, meaning we could ship early next week. We understand how this may affect your planning and preparation for your December Daily® album and we wish there was something we could do to change these circumstances. We are very unhappy with this situation and apologize that we have let you down. At this time, we are evaluating all of the shipping possibilities to ensure that your kit arrives to you by November 26th. In the meantime, we would like to offer you three options: Leave your order as is and receive it (at your shipping address on file) by November 26th Change your shipping address for your preorder, as we realize you may be traveling for the holidays. To do so, please contact our customer experience team Request special expedited shipping if you wish your kit to be delivered before the 26th. We estimate this will be an additional $15-30. To do so, please contact our customer experience team As always, thank you for being a loyal customer of Ali Edwards and we look forward to documenting December with you. Sincerely, The Customer Experience Team AliEdwards.com

Thank you everyone for your responses! I appreciate everyone's input. I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling frustrated about this. I really like Ali but I feel that the options they are giving for a resolution are not acceptable. I will not be ordering from Ali or SC again.

I didn't order but I can understand why you are upset. If you want the contents ASAP, maybe you should start a conversation and ask that they send the contents now and album later - just a suggestion I saw a few customers make on the SC boards. Not sure they will do it but you can maybe check?
They did send corrected albums last year but my guess is that since that was the suppliers fault, the supplier paid that expense so it may be why they are hesitant to send separate this year. I don't really know what to think of it all bc I have had a positive experience at SC and everything but they just seem to have a lot going on right now. Hopefully they will get it together!

meganliane..... I did start a conversation when I first received the email asking if that was an option.
I think I'm most disappointed because this is my first year doing DD and I'm so looking forward to getting everything ready. My DD's birthday is Nov 30th so I don't have much time over Thanksgiving weekend to do much else. I really wanted to get started on this earlier. If I don't have everything prepared I know I won't do it.

I'm neither a Studio Calico member or Ali Edwards follower nor buy their products. However, based on the message posted from customer service, I recommend contacting the company to request they expedite your order at no cost to you OR cancel it & waive the cancellation fee. You purchased the kit with a promise of a mid-November delivery, which the company did not fulfill as of today. You should NOT pay an additional $15-30 because they failed to meet a self-imposed deadline. It is the company's responsibility, not the customer, to correct its mistake.
If the company refuses to expedite or cancel the order without an additional charge, I would file a complaint/dispute with your credit card company. IMHO this type of business practice is unacceptable. Best wishes...

Last year I got the kit but I did not preorder and got it when it was in stock. I liked getting it and having it setup somewhat before December. I think it is a big disappointment getting it so late especially since Ali emphasizes on her blog how you should prep before December. I will say when people keep complaining it seems to push SC to act so I think emailing them was good and hopefully they will come through. Their MB is full of complaints so hopefully they will get the picture...

I don't understand why they consistently have problems with not only products in their regular kits, but the DD kits (but I suppose it's par for the course now). There are soooo many other kits out there, and people have received them already. Why can all these other companies get their kits out, early, but SC can't?
If I bought that kit I'd be royally pissed. Thanksgiving's a week and a half away, and everybody's lives get so hectic even starting before then. Not being able to work on it ahead of time would be such a huge disappointment.

Nah...they just copy and paste the same things over and over again after each issue, lol.
I went to the SC site to see what others were saying and many are not happy. And then someone pops in, as usual, and says people should feel sorry for SC and Ali (or something similar). Seriously? I stop shopping at/dealing with companies or products that constantly have problems. And, well, that's why I stopped subscribing there a couple of years ago already.
I understand SC/Ali can't help if there's a customs issue, but again, why can other companies deliver when they say they will, but SC can't? That kit's expensive, and people should feel bad for SC? I just shake my head.

I am one of the ones that feels bad for them, I know customs can be frustrating and I bet they are feeling frustrated and down about the whole thing especially with the albums last year too. With that said though I do wish they had them on offer much earlier than they did and then maybe we would not be facing these issues. I am hoping for a refund and then will buy somewhere that is shipping just now. If not I guess I will suck it up and just remember this for next year. I no longer sub and have only bought 2 kits in over a year there so I can not comment on any other issues to be honest. Gotta say though I am really considering subbing at Gossamer Blue, their kits look awesome.

I think what is odd to me is the pattern at SC like it seems every time something gets screwed up - like the stamp fiasco one year, the albums last year (which was not that big of a deal I guess) and then the late shipping this year. Places like gossamer blue did custom kits and they have not had any issues getting the product. I wonder what causes this - maybe SC just has so much more on order? I don't know - and they have issues with kits too. Maybe they are just trying too hard make things all "unique" or something. I don't know - it is just weird...

If they only used an American manufacturer they wouldn't be having customs and/or shipping problem. Maybe they should have shipped to the Port of Seattle instead of LA.

I guess having things made overseas would complicate things. I wonder if Gossamer Blue has theirs manufactured in the US or overseas?

They don't plan accordingly? Poor quality control? Bitten off more than they can chew? All of that, none of that...? It's a mystery to me. When people spend that kind of money, I just can't feel bad for a company that continues to have issues. They need to get their **** together.

I would say it is probably they have bitten off way more than they can chew. I think the other places are doing better cos maybe they are way smaller than SC.
SC just tried to take on way too much, card kit, pl kit, everything else kit, just too much, and now with them doing AE and ABM etc not sure how they get any sleep LOL.
They really do need to get it together, I just may think this DD may be the end for a lot of people, last years was really not an issue, I was happy to work on the DD without the album, but this is bad if we all waiting until Dec for our kits.

No, but only beacause they never actually apologize. This is a quote from the thread "April Foster says… bellaa75 - we are still working toward a mid-november ship date. Ideally by early next week and will let you know as soon as we know something concrete. I promise I'll apologize if we miss the mid-november date " Note for those not terribly familiar, April Foster is the owner of SC. Isn't she a peach?

I also am really mad they are asking us to email and they I will evaluate on a case by case basis. To me that just smacks of them picking and choosing who to help, and I am pretty confident in saying I will be in the "do not help" category! If anyone here gets a response on what they are doing to help, will you post here? I will let you know how they respond to my message.

I haven't been a subscriber in years, nor did I order DD. They were still small company when I was sub, not many problems.
But. I've got to comment.. They're continually representing themselves as a force in the industry, but plead they're Mom and Pop when convenient.
whether we like it or not, A decent portion of what most of us buy goes through customs, either as material to be fabricated, or a preassembled product. Hiccups happen, and companies include contingencies into their planning. So they order products in time to meet delivery dates, it's not rocket science.
Why doesn't SC do this when selling a time sensitive product?
When's the last time you got a "stalled in customs" notice from another smallish vendor you support?

Inexcusable; especially for the amount the kit costs! Yet magically if you pay $15-30 more you can get it faster?! I'm disgusted.

This happens all the time with them. I'm not sure why anyone's surprised either. It's gotten to the point of predictable. Feel sorry for all the new people who didn't know through past dealings though. It's really unfortunate as it's supposed to be a fun and happy project.

Why don't they just ship out the kits minus the albums? People can at least get started on their pages. Plus, it would get the majority of people off SC's back.
Instead, they are going to keep getting heat from people for another full week. At the very least.
They need to swallow the cost of shipping the albums separately. Period.
It just seems to me that SC loves all this drama that seems to surround them with every single mishap. So glad I'm not involved and I can just change the channel.
