For us, we wanted to be truly surprised, so we did not find out for either pregnancy. I was right with the twins (one boy, one girl) but I had them out of order. I guessed correctly for our youngest son too (which was a good thing because we didn't have a girl name picked out).

Yes. With all three.
First I was sure was a boy and was right.
Second I really had no idea and learned he was also a boy.
With third I was again sure was a boy, but others thought maybe girl because it was the first time I had anything resembling morning sickness (slight nausea in the first trimester). Also a boy.
I liked knowing mid-way. The ultrasound and new information was something to look forward to and then plan toward for the rest of the pregnancy.

We found out with all 4. No real gender announcements like they do today. But with our 4th, we had 3 older kids (3-7 years old) and we wanted to tell them in a fun way. We got black balloons, canvas, pushpins, and pink and purple paint. We filled them and pushed all the pins through the canvas and gave each kid a couple of balloons. We told them a boy would have plus and yellow pain and a girl would have pink and purple paint. Then we told them to throw the balloons at the canvas. It was great! They loved the activity and 2/3 were happy it was a girl. Our oldest sons fav color at the time was blue, and he was so sad his balloon didn’t have blue in it. Made for an epic photo afterwards. 🤣 We posted the video to Facebook and that’s how everybody found out. Easy and fun and no party planning!

Yes. We both very much wanted to know. I’m a planner and wanted to plan the nursery and shop for clothes etc.
We both were leaning towards only one child and were hoping for a girl (otherwise we might have had more). We got our baby girl. 🥰

Yes. The first pregnancy because the baby was large and turned breach. The second pregnancy because of suspected twins. They were. I had many ultrasounds with that pregnancy. They were twin, high risk because of my age, and they couldn’t detect any membrane between them with the first ultrasound so there was high risk of cord entanglement. Luckily the second ultrasound revealed an amniotic membrane but one seemed to have more amniotic fluid so there were other ultrasounds to monitor that.

We found out with our middle of three kids. I really liked not knowing better.

Not for any of my four did we find out ahead of time. Loved each birth and would not go back and change a thing.

Nope. They didn't really do that in 1979, when our one and only was born.

I did not want to know and with DS we did not find out.
Because his birth experience was traumatic (more so from my husband's perspective because I was not coherent for a lot of it) my husband expressed that we didn't need to be surprised about the gender of our 2nd baby and that he wanted to be able to feel happy when he found out instead of terrified or that the gender announcement was an afterthought which is what he felt with DS. So we did know that DD was going to be a girl. DH wasn't able to be with me the day of her ultrasound but of course I called him and I'll never forget that for some reason he was visiting BIL & SIL that day and walked in and blurted "Baby xxx" is on her way." So everyone already knew both her gender and her name long before she arrived!

Our first baby's sex was a surprise. (After 30 hours of labor I was happy just to have a healthy baby!). With our 2nd baby, we asked to find out the sex only to prepare our daughter. She still insisted it was her "baby sistah". She eventually got used to him being a boy!
With both babies, I carried differently and had entirely different pregnancies. Not sure if it was due to the sex of the baby.

Yes. I had MISERABLE pregnancies. I needed to know with both of my boys so that I could start to bond with them somehow.

We found out at 12 weeks but didn’t tell anyone, which is relatively unusual these days.

My son is adopted so I didn't have a choice. I still remember when I got the call and my ex told me that we had a son. I was disappointed for a nanosecond but then was so grateful to be a Mom. I loved being the Mom of a boy. I now have 2 grandsons and I can relate to them so well. Yesterday I ate a cricket after a trip to a science museum. I am used to trying gross things having boys in the family.

We found out for sure with our first (he's 25 now) at around 20 weeks. He wasn't shy at all. We were still surprised, just at 20 weeks, not 40. My mom was an RN in a hospital cardiology dept and her coworker did a fetal echo for me when I was 30 weeks or so and, he looked around and confirmed it. With our 2nd, I had issues and multiple ultrasounds, but we were never 100% sure of sex. We thought she was a girl, but she was never totally cooperative. She was breech, so I had a scheduled c-section. The biggest surprise to me was how big she was. The day before she was born I had an ultrasound and pre-op stuff and they told me they thought she'd be about 7 pounds. She was 9lbs 7 oz. I'm 5 feet tall, and I was miserable that entire pregnancy. She was both feet down breech, huge and I threw up for 9 months. She's always been ornery.

Found out with all of them—the first four by ultrasound (and had an amnio with the twins, so it was confirmed); with the youngest two, because I was in my 40s, I had a blood test that included sex pretty early.
