But how are you going to know if they are vaccinated?

Maybe we should just paint a big, red ‘V’ on everyone.

Honestly, it just comes down to trust, and what you (a general you) know is true.
IMO, if one is concerned about people one doesn't know, one needs to give a wide berth to others outside.
Also, IMO, we have got to get over policing others regarding masks outdoors, it's just not (mentally) a healthy place to live.
ETA: this comes from a person who masks any time I am outside of my own living space and is not yet fully vaccinated. ETA again: if I'm alone outdoors and no one is within 30 feet and won't be for a while, I'll remove my mask. Living in a city, it is a pain to keep putting it on and taking it off...it's honestly just easier most of the time to keep it on.

I have not worn a mask outside ever...only in stores or a salon... I put my mask on when I get close to the store, or to someone else walking in the parking lot. But if I'm just 'out and about' I don't wear a mask, either. (is 'masking outside' a state-by-state thing? I'm in AZ.)

Does this mean outside around people? The only time I wear a mask outside is if I’ll be near people. I don’t wear one when walking my dog for instance.
ETA - and I am in California, with our somewhat stricter mask rules.

I'm fully vaccinated but I still prefer to wear a mask. I feel like it gives others who are concerned some peace of mind and it's just a courtesy thing at this point. I wear a mask 10+ hours a day, so it's really a non-issue. I'm just used to it.

I don’t wear a mask outside, unless I’m at a venue with other people. I don’t wear a mask when I walk the dogs and I don’t wear a mask fishing or boating. I’m fully vaccinated now, but I didn’t wear a mask outside last summer when I wasn’t and I never have while dog walking.

I go on a walk with my son every day and did the same while I was pregnant and don’t go out without a mask. I live in a densely populated part of the city and pass lots of people on narrow sidewalks, I prefer to be masked up. I look forward to being able to walk without one soon, I’m one shot down. I’ll carry my vaccine card with my everywhere to prove I’m vaccinated if I have to.

I kind of like wearing a mask all the time. Baseball hat, glasses, and mask and you don't get recognized.

I’ll wear my mask as long as I can. Some people simply refuse to stay ‘social distanced’ and in my experience the same people are less likely to get vaccinated.
I would think after a year if this total strangers would not insist on being a close talker up in my face!

Where I live no masks were required if you can maintain a distance of six feet so if I was walking in my neighborhood or on a hike I never wore a mask. I never saw enough scientific data that supported wearing one when you can distance yourself outside. Just the other day I passed someone on a wide(12 ft+) path and she literally walked even further away and stood and turned her back to me till I passed. I think it will be a long time coming before people like this begin to lose their fears. (And as of today my city has 0 cases per 100,000 with 73% of 16+ having received their first shot).

I think I would feel "naked" walking around without a mask even if I was vaccinated! This is going to sound crazy, but I find it adds a layer of "comfort" to me. I am one of the minority of people that actually likes the masks. In our area (a lot of Trump people) I don't think most will be vaccinated, so I don't mind wearing mine. But this is great news for vaccinated people who don't like to wear masks. My husband is finding wearing the masks outside really helps with his allergies.

I have already been going outdoors unmasked unless I am in an area with a lot of people. Like earlier this spring when I was in Nashville in a busy area, I did keep my mask on outdoors. Walking in a park? No, I haven't had a mask on. Not many people around here do, to be honest.
I will be fully vaccinated the day after tomorrow, and I am sure I will keep on wearing my mask in public anyway. Until this pandemic is declared as under control with enough people vaccinated, I will keep on as I have been.

When we take our daily walks, we don't mask. Pretty much everyone steers clear of other people.
When we went to Carmel last August we were dismayed to see a big sign that said you would be fined $100 if not wearing a mask outside. I love walking up and down the streets of Carmel to look at the architecture so that put somewhat of a damper on our 4 day visit. However, you were allowed on the beach without a mask. But you could only walk, you couldn't sit on the sand. I think Monterey County went a tad overboard with their restrictions but we escaped the smoke and 100 degree temps back in our area.

But how are you going to know if they are vaccinated? You won't. But if YOU are vaccinated it doesn't matter as much. The transmission risk outdoors was always less than the risk indoors. Now that people are getting vaccinated the risk is dropping even more. And you always have the option to keep wearing your mask if that makes you more comfortable. We probably aren't there yet, but at some point the unvaccinated are mostly only going to be a risk to the rest of the unvaccinated. (Notice I said mostly... I'm pretty sure there are absolutely no guarantees concerning covid... Also - this super sucks for the people who CAN'T be vaccinated, as opposed to those who just WON'T.) From this AP article: DH and I did wear our masks outside in a few situations - mostly at soccer games where we were around lots of people milling about, talking, cheering, etc. After I am fully vaccinated (6 days and counting!) I will be comfortable ditching my mask outdoors. (unless it is required by the location/venue - in which case I am happy to comply!)

Ugh. We wear masks outside to watch dd’s softball (Coaches, umps, players all fully masked). Generally everyone sits a bit apart, and the parents all mask to support the players. My mother insists she no longer needs a mask though as she’s fully vaccinated. Never mind she wants to sit right next to me, I’m still waiting on a second shot, as is dd, and youngest isn’t eligible yet. And never mind she is a coughing, sneezing, stuffed up mess who has travelled the last month and been around multiple un vaccinated households and refuses to get a covid test to confirm her deep raspy chest cough is in fact allergies...but I digress.
I’ll still be wearing a mask at softball, only one game left. Haven’t been wearing a mask to walk the dog around the neighborhood, it’s very sparse and cross the street in the rare instance someone passes by.
Have been invited to an outdoor party next weekend and I really don’t know what to do about it. Feeling like this mixed time is more stressful then masks and staying home.

I don't wear a mask while out for a walk but I wear it the moment I get out of the car and until I am back inside after a trip to the store.
The CDC said this:
Fully vaccinated people can now unmask at small outdoor gatherings, or when dining outside with friends from multiple households. The CDC is telling unvaccinated people that they still need to wear a mask at such gatherings.
It is also still recommended to wear a mask at large outdoor gatherings like plays, concerts, ect

I don't wear a mask when I walk around the neighborhood. I do wear it in parking lots, etc. I honestly just find it easier to put on in the car. When leaving work, I put it on once I leave my office space, and it's just easier to wait to get into the car to remove it. I will continue to wear it outside in situations where I cannot social distance-- and quite honestly, I'm not really in those situations yet. My younger dd is not yet vaccinated (just set up her first appointment for next week, hooray!), and I'm not willing to risk bringing something home. I'm vaccinated and feeling pretty comfortable these days, but I believe in taking precautions. I don't trust the maskholes, quite honestly.

I’m still wearing a mask at DD’s track meets (I’m sure the school will still require it) and when we go for runs. I pull my mask down when running unless I come across another person.
ETA my kids aren’t fully vaccinated yet, DD is to young but we will continue to mask as a family.

I agree that it might depend on where you live and how you have been living with your state/county's restrictions. Here, everyone is masked pretty much all the time unless they are on their own property.
I'll keep wearing my mask. Just because I am vaccinated doesn't mean I can't still get sick. And it doesn't mean I still can't transmit if I do get sick.
It's like someone above said. I feel naked without it at this point.

At some point, this just becomes a personal responsibility issue. Everyone here (age 16+ without medical conditions that preclude it) has had the OPPORTUNITY to be vaccinated. I don't wear a mask outside unless I am going to be right on top of other people. We're not in a city where it is hard to avoid crowds.

I have never worn a mask outside, even from the very beginning. Of course I'm never near other people when I'm outside so it really doesn't matter. The only time I wear it when I'm actually outside is when I'm walking through an area where there are a lot of stores and I might pass closer to people. And I'm going to keep doing that for now, even though I am vaccinated.
