Vaxed amd still masking. Even if dr fauci comes to my house amd personally tells me o don’t have to. I like my mask. I like not breathing in other peoples coughs and hacks. Blech. Basically this is what a lot of us here have been talking about... Just think in pre-covid times how none of us ever wore a mask unless maybe it was someone undergoing chemo during flu season, or something like that. But the rest of us never wore one. Think about all the germs we were breathing it. Mask (and distancing) are the reasons why the flu season was so light this past year, and why so many of us never got even one cold. I swear, I might just keep wearing the mask every winter.

I agree that it might depend on where you live and how you have been living with your state/county's restrictions. Here, everyone is masked pretty much all the time unless they are on their own property. I'll keep wearing my mask. Just because I am vaccinated doesn't mean I can't still get sick. And it doesn't mean I still can't transmit if I do get sick. It's like someone above said. I feel naked without it at this point. I agree. And for me, I feel like once I actually am vaccinated with both doses, I am going to try to minimize my risk. I don't want to go through getting a vaccine I don't feel 100% comfortable with, then not wear a mask/visit with people, and risk getting covid (even though it's much less likely once vaccinated). But I understand that many are happy to not have to wear masks once vaccinated.
I also spent so much money trying to find the "perfect" mask, so I will wear them. Some are really cute!

Before covid, I always had a hand sanitizer in my purse/car and hand sanitizing was always the first thing I did once I got to my car. And I always washed my hands once I got inside the house. I guess I have always been a germaphobe!

We will continue masking for the foreseeable future when we're outside of our home. If we're in a wide-open space, I might take my mask down, but if I saw a person within 20' of me, I'd pull it back up. We've all come SO far and I'm too afraid of blowing it now. There are way too many people who will use this to prove their point and go maskless even though they haven't been vaccinated. NO THANKS.
ETA: DD and I go to our community area to throw our garbage and get our mail. You'd think that people wouldn't be all over the place, but I'm very glad that we've worn our masks (and washed our hands as soon as we got in the car), because people DO appear out of nowhere to do the same chores and it seems like they're on top of us. Not too many people here have respected social distancing or masking, so we're that much more careful.

I mean...sort of. If you're alone or with your household or other vaccinated adults. Large crowds of people with vaccination status unknown? Still need a mask. www.cbsnews.com/news/cdc-guidance-face-mask-outdoors-vaccinated-americans/The new recommendations say fully vaccinated individuals can engage in the following activities without wearing masks:
Walking, running, hiking or biking outdoors alone or with members of their household
Attending small outdoor gatherings with fully vaccinated family and friends
Attending small outdoor gatherings with a mixture of fully vaccinated and unvaccinated people
Dining at outdoor restaurants with friends from multiple households.
Fully vaccinated people can also attend "a crowded, outdoor event, like a live performance, parade, or sports event," as long as they remain masked, according to a CDC infographic of the new guidelines.

I was at a garden center today and most people were not wearing a mask unless they were in the main building. I went to a downtown area and no one was wearing a mask out on the sidewalk either; they wore them in stores. Given that it was a weekday, most people were older and are more likely to be vaccinated.

Never wore a mask while watching DS's baseball games last summer, have not worn one to watch games this year either. His teams don't have a ton of people watching so it's easy to spread out, but we're not necessarily all 6 feet apart either. Most of the other spectators don't wear one either, but a few do. Never wore one at the local amusement park either last summer. Masks were not required at any of these outdoor places, maybe they were at his high school games last summer, but no one wore them once seated. I never wear one while out walking on trails or bike paths or on sidewalks in the neighborhood either, but I rarely see more than one or two people on the trails.
But inside stores and restaurants, sure I wear one. I think they were required for football games last fall, but DS's school only play one game because the superintendent and school board refused to follow the state law...

I’ve never seen anyone wear a mask outside here.
Parks, walking trails, soccer games, football games. I have literally never seen anyone wearing a mask at an outdoor activity.

But how are you going to know if they are vaccinated? Treat them like a cellphone tower. If your 5G coverage amps up when you’re near them, you’re probably safe. 😏

It’s all very confusing to me...masks are to protect others right? So vaccinated people don’t need to care about the unvaccinated? But unvaccinated people need to care about the vaccinated who shouldn’t need protecting?
🤷♀️

Vaccinated people basically got a *few*outdoor concessions where they shouldn’t need to any longer, that’s pretty much it.

I've never worn a mask outside. I just want to know how they're going to determine when it's "safe" to unmask completely. In SC we have an abundance of available vaccines. Some people will never get vaccinated and honestly I'm not going to continue to mask much longer to protect them. They are choosing not to vaccinate and I'm about to choose not to mask.

I swear, I might just keep wearing the mask every winter. This is exactly where I’m at too. My family was so much healthier this past winter just by keeping our distance and wearing a mask when we were around other people. It really wasn’t that hard and it’s far better than spending 3-14 days being sick from some type of crud that now we know can be somewhat avoided. Of course it would work *better* if everyone kept wearing them, but I’m not crazy enough to think that’s what’s going to happen. ETA: To answer the original question, I haven’t ever really felt like I needed to wear a mask outside because I have really cut back on where I go, haven’t gone anywhere with friends or where there would be a crowd, and I will gladly put one on when other people are around. If I’m going for a walk in my neighborhood I rarely even see another person, and if I do it’s easy enough to move away give them a wide berth. I have a mask in my coat pocket just in case, and typically keep 2-3 of them in my purse for myself and DD. In a parking lot, I put the mask on in the car, go in the store and take it off once I get back to my car. DH couldn’t stand crowds on a good day pre-Covid, so there’s no way anyone could convince him to head into one now.

I mask outside in public places but I don't mask when walking my dog in my neighborhood or when hiking, riding my bike, etc. I never have. I live in a semi-rural area. My neighborhood has no sidewalks. If someone is walking their dog at the same time as me we just go to opposite sides of the street.
When I am at work, I do wear a mask when I walk to get coffee/lunch. None of the mentally ill drug addicts that wander the streets near my office are masked.

I’m almost fully vaccinated (a week left) but will continue to wear a mask until I feel comfortable around people. My nephew isn’t able to get the vaccine yet (child) and I would hate to have given him covid. He’s in the age group that is getting it. I really don’t need to worry since I only go to the grocery store right now. I won’t be eating at a restaurant or going to the movies till the fall most likely. I guess it’s up to each individual on how they are feeling about being around people who you don’t really know are vaccinated or not. Don’t think the states can police that and really anyone can lie and say they are as of now their is no proof needed.

I feel like this is a matter of common sense. When I'm walking or running in the neighborhood or on a local trail and not going to be close to anyone for longer than a few seconds, I don't wear a mask outside. When I'm in the city, I mask up and will continue to do so. And personally, I may also continue to do so because 1) masks don't bother me at all and 2) it's been pretty awesome to not get sick with ANYTHING for over a year. I'd be very pleased to never have a cold again.

But unvaccinated people need to care about the vaccinated who shouldn’t need protecting? 🤷♀️ Vaccinated people are not, for the most part, getting the virus or transmitting it. Their vaccine protects both them and others. Masks work both ways -- protecting both yourself and others. Unvaccinated people should still be careful of the same risks they've had all along.

I think there's a difference in being outside alone (out for a walk/run) vs being outside where you're either near people or will likely be near people (park, walking city streets). I don't trust the people I live around for me not to wear a mask when I'm around others, outside or not. But if we're going for a walk around the neighborhood or even at some of the bigger parks, I'll pocket my mask and just put it on if we're coming into contact with others.

Honestly, it just comes down to trust, and what you (a general you) know is true. IMO, if one is concerned about people one doesn't know, one needs to give a wide berth to others outside. Also, IMO, we have got to get over policing others regarding masks outdoors, it's just not (mentally) a healthy place to live. ETA: this comes from a person who masks any time I am outside of my own living space and is not yet fully vaccinated. ETA again: if I'm alone outdoors and no one is within 30 feet and won't be for a while, I'll remove my mask. Living in a city, it is a pain to keep putting it on and taking it off...it's honestly just easier most of the time to keep it on. I agree, Michy. Surprise, surprise, eh? I will be considered fully vaccinated one week from now but will still mask up if a stranger approaches me during a walk or when I'm otherwise out and about for now. BUT, a friend of ours dropped by yesterday to borrow a book, AND WE ASKED HIM INTO OUR LIVING ROOM FOR A VISIT! Unmasked. He and DH are fully vaccinated and I'm so close, it felt safe. And wonderful. ETA: Right now, masking is helping with my seasonal allergies, which are debilitating. 10-12 weeks of fun twice a year. So I'll be masking during my problematic seasons from now on, and in between for the time being.

I'm fully vaccinated but I still prefer to wear a mask. I feel like it gives others who are concerned some peace of mind and it's just a courtesy thing at this point. I wear a mask 10+ hours a day, so it's really a non-issue. I'm just used to it. Thank you. I imagine it would be harder to wear a mask as a courtesy when you must wear one for work! May I ask your preferred store bought mask?

Where I live no masks were required if you can maintain a distance of six feet so if I was walking in my neighborhood or on a hike I never wore a mask. I never saw enough scientific data that supported wearing one when you can distance yourself outside. Just the other day I passed someone on a wide(12 ft+) path and she literally walked even further away and stood and turned her back to me till I passed. I think it will be a long time coming before people like this begin to lose their fears. (And as of today my city has 0 cases per 100,000 with 73% of 16+ having received their first shot). Wow! Those are the best stats I've heard. Anywhere. May I ask if you're in the US?
