I am in MN and we are still mask mandated. Now that our weather is warming up, garage sale postings on Facebook are blowing up. I'm a germaphobe to begin with, so I am sure that colors my opinion. I just wouldn't want strangers touching my stuff and roaming around my garage right now. I understand why people have garage sales, but I just don't know if it's a good idea during a pandemic. What say the peas?

Garage sales here are usually held in the driveway, not the actual garage so I don’t see a big deal about it as long as everyone is masked. I don’t typically garage sale shop, but drive past lots of them and i never see more then 5 or 6 customers at a time at them for the most part.
There is typically a huge neighborhood one in a nice area of Portland every year I do go to, but even though the streets are crowded it is mostly people socializing. As a fully vaxxed person I would feel comfortable attending this year, but I don’t know that it is happening. They canceled it last year.

I've thought about this as they've started up by us, too. This week there's been an estate sale sign up for a home in my neighborhood. Normally, I'd be all over that. Right now though, no, I'm not going inside a building with strangers.
I'd be comfortable going to a garage sale if it was outside and not crowded. I wouldn't want to be the one doing the sale. Too many people getting too close to hand me $.

Unless it’s absolutely crammed I can’t really see an issue. Maybe have some sanitiser to hand and obviously wash yours but it wouldn’t worry me 😊

I've seen some garage sales here and people are usually masked. I don't tend to go to them anyway so it wouldn't be any different now.
A couple of months ago I drove past an estate sale and there were probably 75 people (not distanced) waiting in a line to get in. That would be a huge hope for me.

I think the science is pretty clear by now that touch is not the main vector for Covid transmission, it's the aerosolized particles, so people touching my things wouldn't bother me.
I think the most danger comes when you have to stand there and haggle with someone for 10 minutes, especially if one or both of you is unmasked.
As I sit here and think about it, it's probably way less of a risk than the grocery store (since it's outside and less crowded), and I still go there every Saturday, so I think with proper masking and distancing, I'm not too bothered by the idea of a rummage sale, at least not this year. Last year, I'd have still been on the hell no bench.

I went to a few last summer and would go again now if I wasn't saving for a big trip and taxes. I wouldn't have one because I am too lazy but not because of Covid.
I'm not a germophobe and have been out and about the entire time, masked and sanitizing, but more info has come out about transmission and surfaces and I have even less concern about getting it from touching stuff than I did before. I am vaccinated now too and pretty much living my life with a mask.

I don't think I have ever been to a garage sale in an actual garage. They have all been outside on yards or driveways.
I don't see how it would be any different than a regular store, provided you have in-store shopping at the moment.
Our stores are all still closed and we are under stay at home orders (only grocery and pharmacy are open), so I don't think anyone is allowed to have garage sales either.

My neighborhood is having neighborhood-wide garage sales today-Saturday. I'm not selling because when I've done the sale in the past I've earned about $100 for two days of being stuck out there. They cancelled the sale last year, but I'm not super-concerned about people being outside.
I do grocery pickup and I have no idea how many people have touched my groceries before they made their way to my house.

Garage sales were pretty much nonexistent last year, this year I’m starting to see some signs popping up already. Some neighbors here are organizing a neighborhood one for next month and we have SO much crap to get rid of after not really being able to purge much of anything for a year through the usual methods, so we’ll be participating. I hate having one but at this point it’s kind of a necessity. I don’t think I’ll have our stuff in the garage though, probably more likely that I’ll have the stuff out on tables in the driveway. Hopefully it won’t be raining because that just sucks.
I’m not worried at all about people touching my stuff. By the time I’m ready to part with it and put it in a sale, it’s not coming back into my house. If it doesn’t sell it’s getting donated.

I’m actually really looking forward to garage sales this summer. I think people who did major decluttering never had a grave sale so there’s going to be good stuff for sale. Plus all of the stuff people bought over quarantine that they don’t use anymore.

I wouldn't be bothered by it. I've gone to estate sales all season long (if they're good ones)... the estate sale companies are all controlling how many people can be in the house, requiring masks, etc. If garage sale goers are wearing masks, then I would be fine with it.

I don't have a problem with them. Most here are not in garages. I went to an estate sale last month. They were limiting the number of people in the house and required masks.
We won't be having a garage sale any time soon because dh hates them.

I had a garage sale ONCE here in AZ. I didn't make very much money, and didn't sell very much. Too much work for too little pay-off. Honestly, I don't like GOING to them here, either... too much chance for them to just be junk. I go to estate sales instead, where the estate sale company has at least gone thru and organized the stuff.

I was surprised to see a couple late last summer and haven't really noticed any yet this year. With everything out in the driveway I don't think it is a high risk activity. The ones I've seen have had very few people at them.

In my area no one has these in an actual garage, which I guess is why they're called a "yard sale". lol. So remember the rule of "two out of three" -- the "three" are: 1. outdoors; 2. masked; and 3. social distancing. So if you're outside at a yard sale, or anywhere then you need to pick one of the remaining two, masked or social distancing. When I walk my dog I choose not to wear a mask and just cross the street if I pass someone in my neighborhood (which I rarely do). For a yard sale where I might be closer to people I'd choose to wear the mask in case I couldn't stay totally away from other people.
So yeah, my long-winded way of saying I love a good yard sale and I'd go to one now. I wouldn't hold one myself though, for reasons that have nothing to do with covid... It's just that they are a pain in the butt to organize and I hate doing it. lol

I went to two of them yesterday and one this morning. Some people had masks and some did not. I wear my mask and try to keep my distance, and I have no issues with going.

They aren’t popular here so the issue hasn’t come up but I wouldn’t have a problem with it. Clean hands before and after. Now if someone came and started coughing all over me 🤮.

Not a fan of garage sales even in "normal" times. I would rather donate items than have one. I'm at the time in my life when I am getting rid of things, not accumulating them, so they don't interest me at all.

I had a yard sale a couple weekends ago. They are all over this time of year. A yard sale/garage sale here is always held outside. No one comes inside a garage or shed. They are in the front yard or driveway. Anyway, some people came masked. Others didn't. Most people didn't pick up anything unless they were purchasing it. It did not bother me at all but we have a very low case rate and I had just gotten my second shot anyway.

I didn't go to any last year.. wasn't in the mood and covid was icking me out with the thought of touching a bunch of stuff that someone else might have. And I am NOT a germaboe type. This year.. I MIGHT go to one if there is really something I see that is interesting. Just depends.

I'd rather chew my arm off than HAVE a garage sale, but I'll happily go to ones hosted by other people. They started back here as soon as the weather got nice. I haven't been to any of those yet, but have been to many estate sales... and of course I work for an auction company and we've been in full swing for a while now.

While I love finding treasures from others stuff, I just spent Covid clearing out my own stuff and taking it to Green Drop. Not ready to begin adding more “stuff” to my home yet. And since I’m weak I must stay away lol!

I was comfortable going to sales last summer and will go again this year. Most here have stuff set up in their garages and more stuff trailing down the driveway. With the garage door up, it's not a stuffy enclosed space and I still wear my mask. The only ones I noped out of were when there were already several people browsing inside a garage, or there was someone who would stand too close to me.

I’ve never been to a garage sale that was in a garage.
They’re outside. I don’t think it’s a big deal at all. They didn’t stop here.

I'd rather chew my arm off than HAVE a garage sale, but I'll happily go to ones hosted by other people. I am 36 and I have never had a garage sale. No one in my family in my whole life has ever had a garage sale. We had one two weeks ago and I'd quite happily never have one again!
