post has me worked up, specifically regarding this:"This year Kim landed at 80 on Forbes magazine highest earning celebrity list. Shockingly she lands above such talented and intelligent individuals such as Meryl Streep, Gwyneth Paltrow and Natalie Portman, as well as powerhouse authors Stephen King, J.K. Rowling and Veronica Roth." As an avid reader, there's not much I appreciate more than a good turn of phrase or well-crafted story. It astounds me that Kim monetarily surpasses these phenomenal authors who have slaved at their work and earned their successes. Have you read Stephen Kings book On Writing? He began writing in his childhood, making handwritten copies of his work to distribute to classmates at school. He collected rejection slips for some time as he submitted his works to various publishers. I'm not a huge SK fan or anything, I just feel he paid his dues for any success he enjoys. I won't even continue on by discussing the talents of actors/musicians/performers who put in long, often grueling days on movie sets/stages etc. and often participate in acting/voice/dance classes to add to their skill sets. I know that is useless to try and establish a system wherein only the truly driven, hard working and talented prosper, but I can't help feeling the injustice of a world where Kim K and family rake in all the dough!Some may argue that she does indeed have talent in style/looks/dress/perseverance but I will always disagree. I've never seen her go much out of her way to help or serve ANYONE but herself. I don't know how much of KUWTK is scripted, but she's often self-centered and selfish even amongst her family members. I can't believe the amount of money she makes just for SHOWING UP somewhere. I wish I could grant all of you hard-working ladies (and your spouses/SO's) a monetary reward for your daily efforts directly from her coffers. I'm done, thank you.

This is why I don't watch them, I don't click on their links, I don't do anything that has anything to do with them. They're attention whores, and I think it's disgusting how much money they are making by basically doing nothing. And no, I am not jealous of them at all. I am saddened that our country has gotten to the point where people can do absolutely nothing, and make millions of dollars because people will watch them do nothing.

I have never seen her interviewed or watched a Keeping up with the Kardashians so I have no idea what she sounds or acts like. She is just a self-made celeb and has worked the system to her advantage for sure.
Kanye? Not sure what she was thinking there, though.

I blame our culture for her fame.
No one admits to being fans of the Kardashians/Jenners, but there must be legions of undercover fans or else they would not be able to rake in the cash and get the coverage they do.
I think it would be awesome if people with great talent or skills were the ones who become famous, but apparently Americans now have an insatiable desire for garbage by talentless hacks.
See Twilight, 50 Shades, and so on for further examples.

she will remain "relevant" as long as people talk---good or bad-- about her. it keeps her in the public eye and that public eye is worth money to many advertisers and businesses who associate with her. many may not see moral value in her but she certainly has a business value because she keeps raking in the money from the many businesses who want to ride her coat tails. there is no shortage of people will drink the Kool-Aid.
it was the same thing with Paris Hilton. thankfully all the attention around her has subsided in the US. but as a business person, Paris has kept her popularity alive in the Middle East where she is huge.

I am forever curious about what others in the world are viewing and talking about, and the family has been SO successful that i can't help but look into their doings somewhat. I agree with you 100%. It sickens me how much money they make by doing nothing. Think of the millions of Americans who go to work each day and work their butts off for minimum wage! Something is wrong with our value system. It's very sad indeed!

You might have to revoke my pea-card, because I actually like the show. I think it's entertaining in a Real Housewives sort of way. I know a lot of it is scripted, but to me they come across as a very supportive (maybe too much) family on the show.

I certainly haven't watched a ton of episodes, but I caught a lot of screaming at each other, jealousy, name-calling. They say the most awful things to their mom Kris, call her an attention wh@re, b$tch, etc. I'm sure it's like most families though, where when push comes to shove they have each other's backs. Cleary the show has a huge audience. |

I really, really, really dislike everything about the Kardashians. They're just so gross to me. Kris being the grossest member of the family, IMO. Why, when I'm reading my US Weekly magazine, I just flip right by the weekly Kardashian related article. That's how much I dislike them.   |

Since I don't read People, watch Entertainment Tonight, etc., the little I know about her/family antics I've read at 2Peas/here (usually by accident, like with this thread, thinking it referred to a fellow member) or seen on ESPN (during her/her sister's brief marriages to pro athletes). Sadly, Kim K (& her sisters/mom) gained name recognition from her late father, who was a member of OJ Simpson's defense team because two people were murdered. While the Kardashian clan capitalize on the notoriety, actively seek the media, & make millions, the Brown-Simpson children who tragically lost their mother possibly at the hands of their father have lived with doubt, debt, & avoided the public eye. Our society foolishly values appearance/entertainment over substance!

Our society does have foolish values, it truly is unfortunate. |
