Joining in the shingles thread. My first outbreak I was young, in my early 20's and I had no idea what it was at the time. It was across my chest/boob. It prickled and burned and I couldn't wear a bra for a week. I remember my doctor gave me an itch cream that did nothing. I don't think it ocurred to him it could be shingles.
In my early 30's again I had outbreaks (2 more) and this time they went across my neck. This time I just treated myself, I looked up in home remedies book and it recommended the amino acid L-Lysine so I bought supplements. I remember it helped somewhat with the pain but the rash lasted several months.
It wasn't until more recent years I learned how dangerous it could be. I was at the doctor's office getting vaccinated as soon as I was qualified. I never want to go through that again.

I currently have shingles and it's been pure hell. I did not go to the Dr immediately - big error. Do not be like me, go immediately.

Did you know there is such a thing as genital shingles? It's not genital herpes, the blisters go in a straight line on only one side. I had no idea. That's your fun healthcare fact! Yes, my cousin had this. She is only about 35 now and she had it a few years ago.

Three questions about the shingles shot:
So if I get the shot I should not get shingles after that?
It is two shots and I might feel sick after one or both? (I have never had any problems with the flu shot or with both covid shots)
My husband has had shingles, should he get the shot(s)?
Thank you

Thank you I was told you will not get shingles after you've been innoculated against it Mine was two shots. I didn't feel sick with either, but the second shot hurt so much it made me cry. It took me by surprise how much it hurt. IDK if it was just me. I have a high pain tolerance so it took me by surprise. Shingles can have multiple break outs, I had three previously. So yes, your DH should definitely get the shots!

I just got back from getting my second shingles vaccine. The pharmacist said it might hurt, but honestly, it was nothing compared to my second COVID vaccine. I just hope I don't have any symptoms. I have plans for tomorrow night.

I had shingles in 1993. It was not fun.
If you've had chicken pox you can get shingles. When you have shingles you can give chickenpox to anyone who has not had them, therefore you are contagious.

I appreciate the info. If that happens to you, buy some Benadryl cream. It really helped, and the pharmacist recommended it.

I'm looking forward to turning 50 and being eligible for the vaccine. I had chicken pox BAD when I was 5- like they reblistered over the existing blister that had popped and I was sick for at least a month. I don't want that shit reactivating! That's really horrible! I had CP at 5 and had a super mild case. Then I got them again at 17 and missed a month of school. I was crazy sick and had a dr calling from Children's Hospital daily. They were worried it was going to go into my eyes. My mom had to stay home from work to take care of me as I couldn't even use the bathroom alone. Weird thing is that DH had them about 10 months prior to me having them. We were dating at the time and I didn't get them. I have no idea where I got them almost a year later, but I did give them to my younger cousins before we realized that I had them. I had CP twice, too, and am terrified of Shingles. Just turned 50 and have had the first part of the vaccination. Part 2 is next month. My second CP wasn’t as severe as yours, but still awful. I still have a bruise from my first shot. It was a month ago.

I had the vaccine earlier this year. The night of the first, I had the chills, and a fever. The next morning I felt fine. No problems after the 2nd. I hope you don't have any reactions. It is worth it though. I would hate to go through shingles.
