I'm just curious if many/most women wear a tampon when they shower. It never occurred to me to use a tampon in the shower and I'm wondering if I'm in the minority or the majority. I don't really have an opinion on correctness, just curious. Although I must admit I am completely fascinated by the number of Peas who say they have never bled in the shower. I didn't know that was a possibility since that's a monthly occurrence for me, but I'm guessing these same people probably couldn't relate to my other post about leaking tampons either. But if you do wear a tampon in the shower, how does that work in the morning? When I have my period, on my heavy days it's usually pretty full (sorry) when I get up in the morning. So I would have to put a new one in before hopping in the shower otherwise it would just leak anyways. But then I would have to change it after the shower because the string would be all wet. I know...way TMI...but where else can you ask such things?

I don't because the string would get wet and be uncomfortable after getting dressed.

Well I don't wear a tampon in the shower or bath, but this OP brings up a question to me -
My flow is never very heavy at night. I assumed it had to do with being horizontal and just thought maybe it was like that for everybody. Do you not find you bleed less overnight than during the day?

I guess mine is not as heavy as yours, as I can hop in the shower after getting up, and change it after the shower.
I've really been thinking of switching to the diva cup.

I wear one in the shower. I've always just changed it anyway after waking up and going to the bathroom... The string getting wet isn't an issue for me I guess.

I wear one in the shower if Its not time to change it yet. Why get a new one just because I'm getting in the shower? It gets wet but not real noticeable. Do you change it everytime you pee? It gets wet when you pee but not noticeable enough to change it every time.

I do not. I don't really bleed in water, so it's not an issue for me.

I get up, change the tampon when I use the bathroom, then get in the shower. No, I don't change it again after the shower. If I didn't wear one in the shower then my towel would get bloody. I've never even thought about the fact that the string is wet, so no, it doesn't bother me.

It gets wet when you pee but not noticeable enough to change it every time. I usually hold the string out of the way when I pee. If I can't do that for reasons I won't elaborate on and the string does get wet, then I do find it uncomfortable like having wet underwear.

I simply hold the string to one side when I pee or I take the opportunity to change it.

I have a tampon waiting for me right outside the shower so I put that in even before I dry off.

I don't wear one in the shower. I wake up, pee and remove my tampon. Take a shower, put in a new one and then dry off. I am generally able to coordinate when I need to pee during the day and when I need to change my tampon. If I can't, then I hold the string to one side. I hate the feeling of a wet string.

No, I do not. I have never had bleeding in the shower either. I really feel for those who have clots coming out and for those that bleed through their tampons. I almost always change mine when I go to the bathroom. I don't like the wet string and sometimes it is not always easily accessible(tmi). I do wear a pantiliner, but now that I think about it, I am not sure why, lol. It is just automatic and I guess it does help with the wet string thing.
After reading these threads I will never again complain about my period. I seem to have it much easier than a lot of you. I am 48 so that may change soon though.

I find I bleed more heavily when sitting than at any other time, whether it be lying down at night or walking/standing. And, nope, it never occurred to me to wear a tampon in the shower.

For some reason it just seems cleaner to shower without one then put in a fresh one. Not saying that's logical. ?

I sleep with a towel underneath me for the first couple of days of my cycle.

I'm sitting at my kitchen table literally jaw to the ground. I pretended like I didnt see the hand as a hankie shower thread but this here is just unfathomable and I must comment!!!!
How can you clean yourself thoroughly with a tampon in?
Why can't you use a darker color towel, change towel daily, or use toilet tissue if a bloody towel is the reason you shower with a tampon in?
So many questions. And can we move to not have any hygienic WWTPD threads until 2015. Just too much ahhahahaa

I do and always have. I have never had a reason to take it out. The string does not bother me after I get dressed.
I feel more comfortable with one in that having blood gush out and down my leg. Gross.

In order for your statement to make any sense you would have to be douching yourself with the showerhead when you take a shower. Is that even possible?

My showers are only about 7-8 minutes long so there isn't a whole lot of time for the flow to go anywhere, tampon in or not.

How can you clean yourself thoroughly with a tampon in? I do not understand this question. The tampon does not cover anything I wash. I do not stick my finger in where the tampon is to wash it with soap.

Gross. Is your flow really do heavy that you "gush blood" while you're on your period? I've never seen blood when I shower without a tampon. As I get older, I get bigger clots and sometimes when I stand up from a laying down, or sitting position, yes, it does kind of "gush" out.
