I think the queen was between a rock and a hard place on this one. Grandson with list of grievances against the family asks to use your personal nickname for his baby. Even if you didn't want the name used, how can you say no without adding fuel to the fire? Next thing you know he will be telling oprah that "the royal family wouldn't even let me name my baby what I wanted". If he did ask her, she didn't have much choice but to say yes. There’s also the possibility that the Queen indeed felt she had a choice, that her grandson wouldn’t have ratted on her for saying no, and that she likes the namesake gesture; therefore, neither a rock nor hard place in sight. ~PollyannaBloomer 😆😆 Pollyanna Bloomer FTW! 😁😁

So...back on topic, today it's reported (by a palace source that reporters cultivate for their insider info) that The Queen wasn't asked by Harry about using the name Lilibet. That would be disappointing since it is such a personal and widely known nickname for her. While actual permission is not required it would surely be good courtesy in this situation. BBCWell that’s an article that says a lot of nothing! Headline says they didn’t ask the Queen, according to a Palace source. It then goes on to say a spokesperson for the Sussexes said Harry rang his grandmother before they announced the name, and ... “During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honour. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name." Then further goes on to say “There were subsequent stories in the press quoting "friends" of the couple who strongly suggested that Harry had sought permission from his grandmother. The Times also reported that it understood the Queen had been informed by Harry about the name.”
And ends by saying a Palace source disputes those statements.“A Palace Source”.......”Friends of the couple”.......”A spokesperson”........ It all does seem to be saying that no-one outside the Royal Family can be sure one way or the other.

It is a very cute name. I can’t wait to see pictures. I hope Meghan is doing well and managing to rest.
I’m also here to add that not only do a bunch of us girls in our family have the same middle name, a couple have that middle name as a first name as well. We are all named after the same person and it is an honor to carry on her name and memory, I’ve never thought it was weird that so many of us share her name.

It did indeed. IMO the personal vendettas (aka middle school behaviour) belong in PM. you mean just like when told me "wow you really are a racist ass" in a PM? ...Oh wait - that didn't happen! you attacked me personally right in the thread, because I was commenting on William and Kate's children having brown eyes. IIRC I also came back and apologized within a few hours. I am giving myself grace for popping off exactly once in my 20 years of being a pea.

IIRC I also came back and apologized within a few hours Oh please, why not be specific, don't try to make it sound like you apologized to me for calling me a racist for no reason.

Back to the topic... now Harry seems to be threatening legal action against the BBC
Such a public shit storm over a baby name, which if H&M had thought it through properly could have been prevented. It really was 100% predictable that this would cause controversy given all the complaining they have done about the RF for this whole pregnancy. Which makes me wonder if they did it on purpose? There are so many versions of the name Elizabeth that they could have used, and then called the baby Lilibet in private (and the general public need never have known), but by using such a personal nickname and then making a public statement about it it...this is where we are (again) - them getting criticized, playing victim and then suing someone.
