I saw them at a Target in my area this past weekend, but I know that doesn't help you.

Can someone enlighten me as to what Smart Post is? Smart post is when UPS delivers to your post office and then USPS delivers to you. Adds at least an extra day and alot of hassle.

Sh*t! I ordered DD something from Patagonia from Christmas and I see it's shipping through Smart Post. Keeping my fingers crossed that it actually arrives FWIW, I signed up for the free version of UPS My Choice and it allows me to choose to pay an extra fee - usually a few dollars - to switch something from Smart Post to being delivered only by UPS. That way it gets to me faster and is a little more certain because there isn't that hand off. If the item from Patagonia is important to you, you can always check to see if you can upgrade to UPS only delivery.

No the company is chosing this shipping method. It is a cost saving method since so many are demanding free shipping. And honestly it works well. The problem is there are two different tracing numbers due to using two shipping services. So sometimes wires get crossed. I have never had a package lost with this method and Amazon uses it a lot now.

Sounds like your mail carrier kept taking it to the wrong place! Our FedEx driver does that even though we have actually met him in our neighbors driveway and told him that he keeps delivering our packages to our next door neighbor, who is only a seasonal resident and not home all year. The next delivery, he did it again. Now we just look for lost packages at our neighbors house.

I hate SmartPost, too, but it seems to be the norm these days. I still have Amazon Prime until mid-December. My DS needed some Trombontine for his trombone slide. I have been very busy at work, and the music store closes at 5 p.m. So I ordered some on Amazon, and it was Prime eligible. Yesterday, it was delivered to my post office and today, it was delivered to our house. Now, not life or death, but if UPS could deliver it to the post office yesterday, then why couldn't it just stop by my house! I live less than two miles away lol.
I ordered a sweater from Title Nine three weeks ago and got it this past Thursday, and it was via SmartPost. It's just not very reliable, as far as time frames go.

Sorry that she was not kind to you in that situation, however I am surprised that your employer does not make you have a small UPS for your computer, exactly for this type of situation. I think we just discussed this on another thread not too long ago (maybe about lightening?) and someone that also worked out of their home had some kind of UPS type service through their power company. I think that would be a very beneficial service for anyone who worked from home. I don't think we have it in my area, we would instead have to go old school and install a little mini UPS. A UPS only keeps the power on - it doesn't keep the internet up. And if the power goes out, likely the internet is out as well. In fact, I would lose phone service if the power went out.

We don't lose phone service or internet if the power goes out. However, our router and modem have to be plugged in. The UPS keeps the internet going for maybe 25 minutes, tops. We just have a cheap UPS.

We just have a cheap UPS. The way our internet is set up we would lose internet to my computer. Unless we had multiple UPS's....the internet router/splitter is in a totally different area of the house. And honestly it just isn't worth the cost for me. It happens so infrequently.

Thank you for the reminder about the Advent Calendar!! There are none available at any of the stores near me, but there are some near my Mom and I'll see her Sunday, the day before my son's birthday! I wanted to have something for him to open along with the Detroit Lions game tickets we're giving him!!
If you need me to get one for you, let me know by Friday and if they are still available at that store I could ship to you Monday 11/24. I get 5% off using my Target debit and pay 6% sales tax.

Well that may be true with some service providers, but I have DSL and still have internet and phone services when the power goes out. Others that I know have their cable company as their internet provider and they also usually have internet services (and cable/TV) when the power is out. I think in most cases the power does not stop the service, just your ability to use it without generators or some other backup power.

I have had a number of similar issues with UPS deliveries.. it has been a complete pain in the ass.... especially when I get messages well after the fact, that they "attempted delivery" and I know no such thing happened. So I bet this was a delivery problem, not a Target problem.
