I don't care much about where I eat as long as it's not an hours-long affair. I don't travel just to eat, I want to be doing things. I absolutely hate spending time waiting to be seated, waiting to order, waiting to get the food, waiting to get the check. Ugghh

We love eating local and do so wherever possible but when I visited West Coast USA a couple of years ago, I was incredibly excited when we were desperate for something to eat and a Dairy Queen was en route! I do like the opportunity to eat in chains that we hear about but we don't have at home such as Dairy Queen (delicious!), Panera Bread (really enjoyed) and Taco Bell (awful). Where do you live that doesn't have Taco Bell? I didn't know that such a place existed. Also DQ sucks but I'll defend Taco Bell's Mexican pizza to the death 🤺 Possibly outside the US. We don't have them here in Germany.

I like a mix of both. Mostly we eat at local places, but we seek out some familiar experiences so we can compare them. For example - McDonald's in China. Their Filet o Fish is quite different, they have a giant chicken wing on the menu, and pineapple and taro pies. We also went to a KFC on that trip to try their egg tarts. It's the same reason why we visit the Disney parks around the world when we travel. We're not looking for the same experience we get in Florida - we're looking for what makes each location unique.

I think there may be one restaurant in London but it’s not something you see all over the country. I will totally accept your POV and vow to give TB another go when I’m next in the US. I think we just didn’t know what to order!

One of the main points of traveling is to eat at local restaurants. It seems dismal to me to eat at chains. We don't eat at fast food or chain restaurants unless it's all that's available, like stopping at a rest stop when traveling by car. It’s funny how different people see things differently. I hate having to stop to eat on vacation. It’s annoying to me that we have to stop doing the things we really want to do to eat. We’d have so much more time if we didn’t have to find food. I can’t say this is how we always think, but yes. Especially in Europe. A meal can easily take 2-3 hours. I’ve seen these people all day—I don’t need to spend another 2 hours chit chatting at dinner! Plus, after a day of sightseeing, I really just want to go through photos and then go to bed! Lunches almost always are the local bread and shelf stable salami with some fruit. It’s cheaper and fast! When we travel in the US, we do a mix of local and chains. It really just depends on time and availability. We plan our traveling around what we are seeing and seldom drive out of our way for a specific restaurant. When we were home in May and we ate almost exclusively at chain restaurants. After a year and a half, we were craving American food and we weren’t eating in restaurants just yet. We just spent the last week in Bavaria and we ate at local restaurants every night and ate our Aldi lunches most days. We did hit quite a few Starbucks, as they are rare for us and I was really craving their peach green tea.

I usually love to try out local restaurants and chains when I visit an area. However, I do try McDonalds in every country I visit. I've been to them in the UK, Japan, Norway and Argentina and it's fun to see the similarities/differences (they're usually much better than home!)

I'm not much of a world traveler but every new place I go I check out Mcds 😁 The one I went to in Ireland was actually delicious. 100% Irish beef. No sawdust (I swear the burgers here taste like they have fillers).

We drove and got a little off the expressway (kind of awesome after all) but I was starving after our flight! 😂

We do. We ask locals and we’ve always been pleased when we follow their recommendations.
