After McCarthy questioned the science on the return to a mask mandate for the House Floor, Nancy Pelosi said he’s such a moron. To be fair, her staff amended her statement to questioning the science as a moronic statement. www.cnn.com/2021/07/28/politics/nancy-pelosi-kevin-mccarthy-mask-mandate/index.htmlI realize that their relationship has been very contentious, especially in the last week over the Jan 6 commission. And McCarthy has said a lot of rude, disrespectful things about Nancy Pelosi like saying If she’s so bright and I never find a conversation with her productive. That’s just what’s been in public, I imagine what’s been said in private is far worse. On a phone call after Pelosi rejected McCarthy’s picks, there are reports from a staffer that Pelosi faced a wall of screaming (McCarthy). In private, I’ve called McCarthy a lot worse than a moron. However, I expect better out of elected officials. Admittedly and perhaps unfairly, I have higher expectations and standards for Democrats, I expect them to take the high road. The name calling and Bobert’s throwing a mask in the face of a staffer are just so childish. The situation in Designated Survivor is kind of appealing. Not the death of all Senators and Representatives, just starting over with a clean slate of new politicians. I just wish someone could make progress with term limits. It’s really past time for all of those serving for more than 30 years on both sides to go. I’m not a fan of the more radical new members, either. I’m not sure what the answer is except to stop gerrymandering and protect voting rights. Sadly, I’ve lost a lot of confidence in Americans to think critically or make informed decisions.

I don't think even congress people can be expected to be on and perfect 100% of the time.
I've slipped when I shouldn't, it is just that nobody outside a small group cares what I say.
And he may not be a moron, but he certainly is an asshat among other things. Perhaps she did edit what she wanted to say

I’m watching Biden give a speech in Pennsylvania and he always restores my faith. He’s just so down to earth, straight forward and genuinely cares about people. And on a positive note, I don’t know the details, but they did reach and agreement on the infrastructure deal.

I agree that Pelosi should not be name-calling. I cannot imagine how frustrating it must be to be thrown the kind of vitriol she faces minute by minute on the Hill, however, and to have to listen to the idiotic ramblings of someone who knows NOTHING and not say it. Still. I agree we should expect more.
However wiping them all out would just bring the same all over again. The way the system is set up, it's doomed for failure. I could be persuaded that term limits are good, but the problem - ALWAYS - is not solved. It's a tiny bandage. The problem is that every congressperson needs money from corporations to run for office. That is a bigger problem than most Americans realize. Stop that and maybe term limits won't be as important as they seem to be at this point.

If you can not question the science, it's not science it's propaganda. Then you wonder why people are hesitant to trust the constant back and forth of the claims?

Imagine that, something we can agree on…..term limits and tossing all 535 of them out. The problem with that is the ones that have been there forever have widespread name recognition and continue to get voted in because of it. A large portion of voters check off the name they know rather than taking to time to research the other candidates. So no matter how easy you make it to vote the same ones will continue to hold office until they retire or die.

The "not qualified to question the science" claim doesn't hold water when actual scientists, epidemiologists and doctors are censored and told THEY are not allowed to question the science either.

I am not in favor of term limits (which are unconstitutional for federal elected office, anyway). Voters should get to choose whom they want to represent them, without people from outside their district deciding on an arbitrary time limit. Fix the gerrymandering issue, which is the real problem in Congress, and then we can talk about extraneous stuff like term limits. After McCarthy questioned the science on the return to a mask mandate for the House Floor, Nancy Pelosi said he’s such a moron. Science IS questioning. If you can not question the science, it's not science it's propaganda. Then you wonder why people are hesitant to trust the constant back and forth of the claims? yeah, I’m going to listen to scientists who question the science. Not a political hack from Bakersfield.

Currently THE CDC says you don't need to wear a mask if fully vaccinated and yet the Democrats want you to wear a mask even if you're fully vaccinated. I thought the CDC was "the science" not the politicians. So they can question the science but we can't question the politicians.

The CDC currently recommends mask wearing in areas of substantial spread, which according to the map is the situation in the District of Columbia.

But that link also says masks should be worn ‘where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. “ Which would apply to the Halls of Congress

Yeah, that's my point, the science says it's not necessary and the politicians say it is. We're not supposed to question the science or the people who ignore the science. Because they can't tell who is or isn't vaccinated. Our country is full of liars who lie about being vaccinated so they don't have to wear a mask. They won't "force" anyone to share proof so there you have it, everyone must wear a mask. You're right, that isn't about science! It's about protecting people who need to be protected, because they aren't following the science and protecting those who can't be vaccinated for valid reasons!

I didn’t know what part of CA was McCarthy’s district.
I just checked and it shares a border with Devin Nunes’s district which explains a lot.

You can question the politicians all you want, but the CDC and the rules for the House are following the science. Scientists, epidemiologists and doctors are free to question the science. Still waiting for proof of your claim that the scientists are being censored. Could the CDC website provide more clear guidance? Yes, there’s room for improvement. The guidance changed just yesterday so I’m willing to give them a little more time to fix it before really criticizing. eta - There are plenty of other websites that do have clear guidance on the new recommendation. www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/07/28/1021795290/cdc-mask-guidelines-indoors-vaccinated-by-county-covid-spread

Sometimes the only way to address moronic thinking is to call a moronic spade a spade. This. This is a big part of why we are where we are. Dems expect their people to be perfect and punish even minor flaws. GOPers expect their people to win at any cost and punish compromise. That leaves us with a much smaller pool of Ds to tap, because the human ones who admit to imperfections have been run off, and a much more radical, "exciting" group of Rs because the boring people who actually get shit done and compromise have been run off. We can take the "high road" when we're out of crisis mode. But for now, we need honesty and if that hurts the feelings of the people who LOVE to dish it out but can't take it, too fucking bad.

Exactly. I’m not saying they need to respond in kind to every bit of insanity thrown at them every single time. But some picking your battles and engaging, wouldnt be a bad thing IMO. The current state of the GOP is unprecedented, and requires the Dems to adapt to responding to it. There is too much at stake to *always* take the high road.
