What are your fave stamping inks for your December projects? Pictured are a couple of test pages I played around on with what inks I have on hand. The stamp set I used is Festive Memories by Feed Your Craft. I have a decent rainbow of inks in Distress minis (right side)but that doesn't seem great for stamping images and word phrases. At least not if I want to stamp the same image in different colors, cleaning the stamp with a damp shammy in between. I'll play around with cleaning with a dry microfiber cloth because that might work better. The blues on the left side are Hero Arts minis and I'm not impressed that they seem dry and stained my stamps. The green is my only My Favorite Things ink and I think it'd be fine. That aside from some Distress Oxides (tested but not pictured) is my collection and I know I'm going to want a few other colors. Since I am going to be buying some new ones I thought I'd see if the peas wanted to enable me. I am curious to know what colors and brands folks here love and grab every year. I bought one new ink pad this year - the gold from Ali Edwards. While the color is beautiful, I spent all morning trying to get a good clean image stamped. Its just kinda splotchy. The ink itself looks matte when stamped (and it dries) but the has some shimmer when the light reflects on it. I am not a great stamper, so maybe others have had better results. But I would not recommend buying this one. I bought the same one mom. Also same results. It's not great, almost too dry? I found a cheapy (from Joann's I think) gold pad in my stash and it stamps beautifully.

ghislaine Another vote for Catherine Pooler here. I tried her inks for the first time during the pandemic ("what else to do? what else to do?" - me, during one of our multiple national lockdowns). UGH, SO GOOD. I think joblackford fell down the CP rabbit hole around the same time and loves them too. They are definitely different (and better) than everything else I've tried so far.

Gold ink recommendation from having bought at least 6-7 pads before finding a good one: Delicata Golden Glitz. 😍

ghislaine these are what I'm going with this year. outside of the yellow and dark blue they're all distress oxides. oxides - twisted citron, pine needles, candied apple, spun sugar, tumbled glass, black soot mini inks - mustard seed, blueprint sketch I was matching them up with the little asterisks from the hexagon alphas in this years' FYC release. Tumbled glass is too blue but it'll work well enough in small doses.

If you want a solid print, Hero Arts Silver, hands down. It's a true, cool-toned silver and gives a nice, crisp print. If you want a shimmer effect (albeit less than Golden Glitz, full disclosure here) and a warmer shade of silver (a little less solid print though but not full-on splotchy), Silver Shimmer from Delicata.

I think this looks kinda cool as-is and would make a fun page -- just a pattern of the repeated stamping. I had the same thought about how cool my test page looks! That pic might just be one of my December stories! I bought one new ink pad this year - the gold from Ali Edwards. But I would not recommend buying this one. Ew, thanks for letting us know. I was thinking about buying the Altenew Antique Gold because Jennifer McGuire recommended it. I'll do a little research first though. ghislaine these are what I'm going with this year. outside of the yellow and dark blue they're all distress oxides. oxides - twisted citron, pine needles, candied apple, spun sugar, tumbled glass, black soot mini inks - mustard seed, blueprint sketch I was matching them up with the little asterisks from the hexagon alphas in this years' FYC release. Tumbled glass is too blue but it'll work well enough in small doses. Wow! Those look like great matches! I really like the color of Candied Apple in the Distress Ink so I was thinking about getting it in Oxide too. I'm definitely going to have to check out the Catherine Pooler Inks. I'll have to figure out which mini sets will get me Fall and Christmas colors for my projects. Thanks for all your replies!

It's a shimmer ink range by Tsukineko (the Japanese company behind StazOn). Golden Glitz is this warm-toned, shimmery gold. Ugh, so pretty and festive. It works best on white and light-coloured cardstock for full effect. In this comparison shot I found online, Golden Glitz is number 3 (middle row):

Ok I made a fun discovery. The green floral paper in the main kit is also in Tim Holtz file folders this year but in black. Where Ali's has a green background and Tim uses the same floral but with a black background. But the actual pattern is the same.

I haven't done much with stamping either, could it be a special type of paper for metallics? I have no clue. When I tried this morning I pulled out my good stamping paper and it was just so splotchy and bad. Tried using my stamping platform and it didn't help either. I thought maybe it was the stamps (I was using the new number set from Ali) and with black Versafine Ink, they stamped perfectly. So I grabbed the gold ink again and tried and nope. I finally gave up.

Exactly. I thought it was me, but it can't be all of you too. Add me to the list. I have both silver and gold AE ink and they just frustrate me. I also have a few colors from AE and I just can't get a good image. All of my other pigment inks from other companies stamp perfectly fine.

I have these too and they are old but still going strong! I was also going to recommend the Tsukineko Brilliance in Galaxy Gold. I think I picked up a different 4-pack of dewdrops (from Joanns) that had Galaxy Gold, Starlite Silver, Starlite Black (which is more of a shimmery dark gray), and Moonlight White. I really like the Brilliance Moonlight White, for those asking about white inks. I had SC’s gold small cat’s eye ink, and it dried up super fast and doesn’t stamp well. I’m guessing it’s a similar/same formulation for AE’s metallics. I’ve been impressed with Catherine Pooler inks and how well they stamp. Distress Inks aren’t really meant for fine stamping - they are better for mixed media and blending or edging. I think they stamp pretty splotchy (like a lot of dye inks do), but sometimes comes out ok. I think the Distress Oxides have better coverage when stamped, but the images aren’t as crisp. VersaFine gives nice, crisp stamp images, but the color range isn’t very large. I do use VersaFine in Satin Red quite a bit.

I love the Catherine Pooler inks but not sure about matching them up with DD products. They stamp and blend beautifully. Can anyone use this lovely TN? It's got blank bright white pages, quite heavyweight paper. It's this item: jmplanningessentials.com/product/winterberry-blank-travelers-notebook/ It doesn't have a ton of pages so it would be a good supplement for a DD if you were doing a trip or something like that. I can mail it with stamps (no tracking). RAK by jo.blackford, on Flickr

I had said that last year would be a once and done for December Documented....but ... I think I'm going to do one this year also. First year in the new house, last year with DD21 at home (she moves out Dec 28th), we're starting a new Christmas Eve tradition...
So of course, I'm behind on the planning curve. I'm going to look at HL this weekend and see if they have any 8x8 albums with rings vs postbound. If not, I was looking at the Doodlebug but the album plus page protectors (the ones that come with it are divided and I'm not a pocket scrapper) add up fast especially with shipping added in. I might end up trying 9x6...I'm pretty sure I've seen those at HL.
I think I've used enough of my Christmas stash to justify buying a few things - papers mostly I think. I do have a couple of partial EP kits but I need to supplement them with more secular images/colours - they are both Nativity themed.
