I had said that last year would be a once and done for December Documented....but ... I think I'm going to do one this year also. First year in the new house, last year with DD21 at home (she moves out Dec 28th), we're starting a new Christmas Eve tradition... So of course, I'm behind on the planning curve. I'm going to look at HL this weekend and see if they have any 8x8 albums with rings vs postbound. If not, I was looking at the Doodlebug but the album plus page protectors (the ones that come with it are divided and I'm not a pocket scrapper) add up fast especially with shipping added in. I might end up trying 9x6...I'm pretty sure I've seen those at HL. I think I've used enough of my Christmas stash to justify buying a few things - papers mostly I think. I do have a couple of partial EP kits but I need to supplement them with more secular images/colours - they are both Nativity themed. Yay!! It’s not too late to get your album ready. It sounds like this is a perfect year to document!

Every year I come to this thread and read all the fun stuff and look at all the videos and pictures and I have yet to make a DD. LOL Maybe one day.
ETA: Has anyone ever put together a kit without buying one? If so where did you get your album and pages of various sizes?

ETA: Has anyone ever put together a kit without buying one? If so where did you get your album and pages of various sizes? Absolutely! Especially when I first did JYC, before DD was a big thing. My first album is an 8x8 post-bound with page protectors from HL. My second album had no page protectors - I used a chipboard cover with binder rings, lots of custom page shapes that I cut myself from a mix of patterned paper I loved, some transparency and acrylic pages, trims, rubons, stickers, the works. That was probably my favorite one. Then I did one in a notebook with coil binder (it’s so stuffed!). After those, I’ve pretty much used 6x8 albums, mostly simple stories. I don’t generally stick to a kit, but pick up collections and various embellishments that I like and throw it all in my own kit. (But I also have purchased kits I couldn’t resist to mix in.)

ETA: Has anyone ever put together a kit without buying one? If so where did you get your album and pages of various sizes? I NEVER use a kit 😂 usually I can’t stand the options available as they are the wrong colour red, an olive green or have too much pink… I’m a weird one, the kits most others love are just the opposite of what I like! Also I’m in australia so all the snowflakes and winter themes clash with our super hot summer weather 🥵 … I’ve only ever seen snow twice in my life 🤣! This again means that most of the kits have half or more items that just don’t really work for me! Albums At the moment I get either a 6x8 echo park or simple stories binder album (depending on which one is the nicest on the inside cover, and the “right” colour red) or a 3x8 Ali album (this year) or I also have a few citrus twist life crafted albums as a back up to house my dd. Papers I then match these albums with the random 12x12 papers I’ve stashed over the years from many collections from just about every brand. Again I usually choose papers for the “b” side pattern rather than the “a” pattern everyone else likes! I also have a large stash of cards from my gigantic project life card stash. I love black cardstock backgrounds paired with super bright colours so again my albums look VERY different 😁 Embellishments So, I still have a huge hoard of jolees boutique 3D title stickers and other paper pieced titles, as well as other embellishments, that I am slowing now working through and using. I also can’t go past a few of the Christmas doodlebug doodle pops and other ephemera for pages that mainly involve the kids. Page protectors I have collected a wide range of 6x8 page protectors, mostly from simple stories, as even with my 12x12 albums I love using every single different type of page protector you can imagine 😏 Transparencies Mainly Ali edwards with a few fj thrown in Out of pocket pages Some old fj I got on sale as well as a heap I make myself. I also have a huge selection of Elizabeth crafts dies that make great pages that fit all of the above albums as I don’t do cut you own ones as I’m too lazy 😬 Sorry for the book!

ETA: Has anyone ever put together a kit without buying one? If so where did you get your album and pages of various sizes? Of course! Many DD/JYC-ers DIY their own kit. I think most scrapbookers have enough stash at this stage to do the project without purchasing a single thing (we just struggle resisting the shiny, new things ). Not sure what you mean by "pages of various sizes" but Ali Edwards and Felicity Jane offer paper insert sets in the 6X8 format. The Simple Stories holiday binders (large spine) come with some free paper inserts as well. And, of course, you could cut your own! We'd love to have you along for the crazy ride that is the December album project! It's exhilarating, exhausting but also incredibly fun. And they make beautiful bundles of memories to look back on...

Hi everyone! I'm loving keeping up on this thread and I can't believe we're so close to December... where did the time go!? I'm both super excited and can't wait... and also a little anxious and hoping the time goes more slowly because I have so much to do still, I haven't even started Christmas shopping! I wanted to pop in here and say that I am all set up in my album and putting it away until December so I can finish up a few other projects before diving in headfirst with daily documenting. I shared a flip through of my foundation pages on my youtube and thought I'd link it here if anyone was interested. youtu.be/wkLl0oRcEys

Nancy Damiano is so talented. I love her style and end up saving nearly everything she posts. Same. When the original 2Ps board ended, I downloaded all of her GG videos and put them on an external hard drive, because I wasn’t sure YT would have them. Actually, I did that with a few Garden Girls. I might need to pull that drive out and re-watch them over Thanksgiving weekend while I work on my December projects

Was she on the Two Peas creative team back in the day? I used to love her stuff but I think that was before Instagram. I just rediscovered her this month as well. She posted something that came up in my feed and I was like, Hey! It's Nancy and immediately followed her. She used to do lovely travel journals about trips to Florida. I love her style of scrapbooking. Her travel journals are always amazing. And her Disney layouts were/are The Bomb!

I pulled these out of my stash, too, when I was looking for metallic inks to use for DD, they still worked! I am still looking for a more antique-y gold for vintage feeling layouts, the Tsukineko and Delicata gold is a little too yellow for some of my projects. In my search, I also bought the Tim Holtz metallic Distress Crayons, and they are also a nice option for adding metallic sparkle to holiday projects…

I have these too and they are old but still going strong! I was also going to recommend the Tsukineko Brilliance in Galaxy Gold. I think I picked up a different 4-pack of dewdrops (from Joanns) that had Galaxy Gold, Starlite Silver, Starlite Black (which is more of a shimmery dark gray), and Moonlight White. I really like the Brilliance Moonlight White, for those asking about white inks. I had SC’s gold small cat’s eye ink, and it dried up super fast and doesn’t stamp well. I’m guessing it’s a similar/same formulation for AE’s metallics. I’ve been impressed with Catherine Pooler inks and how well they stamp. Distress Inks aren’t really meant for fine stamping - they are better for mixed media and blending or edging. I think they stamp pretty splotchy (like a lot of dye inks do), but sometimes comes out ok. I think the Distress Oxides have better coverage when stamped, but the images aren’t as crisp. VersaFine gives nice, crisp stamp images, but the color range isn’t very large. I do use VersaFine in Satin Red quite a bit. I have Tsukinedo Brilliance in Galaxy Gold, Starlite Silver, and Pearlescent Lavender. Is the pad on you Starlite Silver different then your Galaxy Gold? Mine is, and I don't get the shimmer from it that I can get from the others. Though it seems a bit dry too. Distress Inks being great at inky techniques and not super at stamping is why I'm looking for something else. I see that VersaFine is available in cubes so I may give them a try. Thanks for the recommendation of Satin Red! I love the Catherine Pooler inks but not sure about matching them up with DD products. They stamp and blend beautifully. While I'm not using Ali Edwards DD products, it looks like some of the colors I'd want to try like Deck the Halls and Cranberry Fizz aren't available in minis yet. The Simple Stories Vintage Rustic Christmas binder doesn't come with the paper inserts. I'm kinda sad about it because I adore that collection. I'm hoping it's a pandemic blip thing and not a standard going forward.

Especially considering their other new holiday binder this year, Make It Merry, does come with paper inserts. Probably a pandemic-related issue, indeed. The Country Christmas holiday binder from a couple of years ago has a very similar feel to Vintage Rustic Christmas and did have paper inserts. Did you like these inserts by chance?

Side note: your idea a couple of days ago for the Product Play class was one of my favorites. All the ideas presented in the class have been really nice, but yours was one of the few that only used items from the main kit, so it was very doable for me. I spent way too much money on December Daily, but I couldn't afford (nor would I ever use that much) to buy everything. I've been a little disappointed about how many of the ideas I can't use because I don't have the products. Also, your instructions were so clear for all sizes. Your contribution was just fabulous, and that page will definitely be in my album this year.

The what's on my shelf is going to be a recurring theme for my DD I'm going to start with the cross stitch as my front cover Then I'll scraplift Nancy's shelf/banner design http://instagram.com/p/CWYVDTRhAGt and I'll repeat this design for the following pages a) trip into NYC b) Getting Xmas Tree c) Cookie Making d) Decorating the house e) Movies Here is how to make the banner http://instagram.com/p/CWb0wtJvOV9

I think the scroll idea would be fun as a title across a page, too. Horizontal not vertical. We are attending a Christmas concert, will give it a go.
I hate it when my mojo is high but my free time is low!

Yes, I have the pictured binder too and loved making use of the paper inserts. I like the Rustic Christmas collection better which is part of my disappointment! I will note that the Rustic Christmas binder still has the plastic pocket pages. I just placed an order with Scrapbook.com to get a bit more of the it because I like it so much. I think next year will be buying much less when it comes to Christmas products but since I'll be measuring everything against Rustic Christmas there probably won't be much to tempt me.

I bought a 12x12 DCWV Christmas pad from Joann's today and this is some tinfoil hat shit but I swear they have the first few pages at the top really nice and thick cardstock and then the further down you go the papers thin out. Not copy paper thin but definitely not as nice as the ones on top. Do they think someone will test out the first few at the top to see its quality and forget the rest? I dunno but something's fishy lol I looked at them, but didn't touch. I know the one halloween I bought, it advertises as having embossed or metallic pages, but it was only a few of the pages. It does seem kind of weird, but I bet more intentional than not. You would think it would actually be more costly to mix quality of pages versus just printing all the same?! @sunnycamom I've never purchased a kit either. Half the fun of scrapbooking for me is curating supplies...I tend to use more Simple Stories type lines also. I've used an Echo Park album, a Simple Stories album, last year I tried the Simple Stories 6x8 Snap flip book, which are fun but require their own page protectors or you have to adjust other type of page protectors to fit. Also don't recommend it if you want to include a ton bcz they are made for smaller projects. Alas, I find I don't really enjoy doing DD so I just follow along bcz it's fun to see what everyone else is creating. Also like Catherine Pooler inks, but they are very juicy & make me nervous! Concord and 9th are good too. I actually use the Pinkfresh cubes most which they sometimes initially stamp splotchy or the color seems off, but as they dry it fills in and adjusts. Texas Scrap I am going to have to look out for that pack you found, I could use a newer white ink.

I remember watching a glitter girl video with my daughter who was 5 at the time. She got all inspired and made her own version of whatever shimelle was doing. It was so cute. I had forgotten all about that. Thank you! Tomorrow will be fun.

That is it! Booty can no longer. I am documenting the injustice that is my neighbourhood Christmas tree. So, we went to grab brunch at a local place here, in the city, and walked our full bellies back home to work off some of the calories (ha, as if that made a dent in all the pastries that were consumed). On our way back, we went past the beautiful, all decked out tree of the fancy side of our neighbourhood. Garlands galore, ornaments, yada yada. She's all decked out. "Like a cabaret whore", per my SO. (disclaimer: nothing against cabarets or prostitutes) Then, approximately 5 minutes later, as we get near our home, we walk past the tree they put up in our nook of the neighbourhood, the one without the fancy chocolaterie shops, indie perfume boutique, antique book shops, etc. Literally 5 minutes of walking or 2 bus stops. And here she is again, our tree sans ornaments and with the one, single, way-too-short garland that only lights up the top half of the tree... Ah yes, our tree of plebian shame. Well fuck them. We pay the same amount of taxes, we shop at the same little grocery stores, we go to the same park. Heck, if the fancy schmancy schmucks want to go to church, they have to come to our nook and pass right by our semi-naked tree. This is the year I properly document our positively Dickensian tree. Every November, I think to myself: "This is the year they'll finally grant us a second garland. Or a new one that is long enough! I can feel it!" And every November, they let me down. Fuck them. I am documenting this injustice for eternity in my DD. THIS IS HOW REVOLUTIONS START, ZUT ALORS!
