My favorite thing about the DD thread last year was clicking in on it and seeing that adorable gif of Dale (or Chip?) goofy reflection in the Christmas ornament. I’m a little bewildered every time I open this thread and see Jack. That’s all. Just had to get that off my chest. Every year, a new Christmas star gets their gif moment to shine. We've had Kevin McCallister, Dwight Schrute and Dale in the past few years. Now it's Jack's turn. While Jack's not your traditionally Christmas-normative guy and may look a little scary, I like that he embodies the December documenters in his many attempts to capture the Christmas spirit, his desire to fully embrace Christmas no matter what, his hopeful, naïve perseverance despite all the obstacles met and errors made and adhesion to the Christmas spirit despite being so different. We've all been Jack in our yearly efforts to make the holidays the best season of all and this thread has been the place of comfort and encouragement for when things have gone both wrong and right (ah, the crappy photos that need salvaging, the pages that just don't seem to come together, the wrong gift purchased for one of the kids, skipping a tradition due to fatigue, etc.). Many of us also celebrate a different Christmas (or end-of-the-years holiday altogether), have a not-so-perfect family. But it's still the warmth and love of the Christmas season that prevails in the end. I hope you'll come to enjoy Jack's place as the DD mascot and embodiment of December resilience this year.

@sleepybooty Well, when you put it that way…😅
I shall attempt to embrace it. Your lovely response has made me consider rewatching NBC with this perspective. Sounds like I have a bit in common with the gangly guy.

Thank you for sharing the Paper Person sneak, groovy. I love the look of Twinkle, the main kit. And yay for more ethnic representation. Embedding the image so it immediately shows up in the thread!

YAY! This thread is back! Thanks for setting it up again, Booty. Can't wait to see all the sneaks in the near future, although there will most likely be a grumpy post when I realise that all my favourite kits won't ship to the UK (hello, Kelly Purkey, I'm looking at you). I am loving the 8x10 size. I've not worked with that size before, but I'm really intregued by that size especially when the majority of the photos I take are landscape anyway. Worth a play with methinks. Really not botherd with the handwritten quote on the front, but as long as the spine just has stars on it, I'm cool with that, I tend not to look at the covers of albums once they're filled and on the shelf.
Very excited for The Boy Called Christmas. Have any of you read the book? It's wonderful. I bought it to read to the kiddos as a bedtime story one December but I ended up reading it to myself because I was enjoying it so much. The other two books in the series are great too, especially The Girl Who Saved Christmas.
@julie5 Yes! One of the few christmas traditions my husband and I do together is settle down and watch Die Hard every December. Usually between Christmas and New Year. Love it.

Yipppee ki yay mudderfuckas. That’s the very best Christmas movie ever. Welcome to the party pal. We had a feral cat come visit us on the porch one year while we were watching Die Hard just before Christmas so now we call all grey feral cats Hans Gruber and all black & white strays Simon Gruber. It's not logical or anything, but we have a decent population in the area sired by the Gruber boys so we can call them all Hans or Simon when we spot them. Gremlins is also a Christmas movie, fellow GenXers... I seem to recall there's a quiet scene with Silent Night playing when all the gremlins are in the movie theater... I might need to watch that again this year.

When I saw the DD sneaks, I thought a thread might be close behind. Thanks sleepingbooty for setting us on the right path. I have an album in my stash and bought some FJ in the sales earlier in the year so probably don't need much. But who am I kidding. I'm sure I'll find some more things to order

Oooh, oooh, alternative Christmas movies! Yes, I'm in!
May I suggest, once again (I'm sure I've discussed it in last year's DD thread), In Bruges? It's a Christmas classic in our home. Can't imagine December without it.
And White Reindeer, a pretty dark drama-comedy about a widow navigating a lonely Christmas season:

I've probably watched In Bruges at least six times, sleepingbooty. It inspired a visit to Bruges during December a few years ago and we were completely in awe. One of the biggest highlights from an incredible holiday in Europe.

Nightmare before Christmas is awesome!! Is it a Halloween movie? Is it a Christmas movie? No, it’s a 6 week long celebration movie! lol My daughter’s ELA teacher had the class write persuasive essays last year on that topic. She thought that was such a fun way to learn more about persuasive writing! Should I confess to never seeing it? I’m not a fan of that style of animation so never watched.

Who is doing a non-traditional DD in that you're not documenting what happened days 1-25/31? I don't document my 25 days of December. I tell 25 different stories. I'm not sure how I'm going to approach this year's project...
In the past I have done: 25 Christmas time activities (some were more than one per day and some didn't happen in December) 25 Christmas traditions-I've done this a couple times 25 Christmas memories 25 of our favorite Christmas happenings told by different people in our family. Kind of like DD1 tells a Christmas memory or activity she loves and why.

One of the biggest highlights from an incredible holiday in Europe. Ooh, a fellow fan! Bruges is a gorgeous and enchanting little city. I'm glad you got to visit it while travelling through Europe. Very quaint yet filled with important European history and historical art. Should I confess to never seeing it? I’m not a fan of that style of animation so never watched. Maybe this is the year you attempt The Nightmare Before Christmas? It's a lovely story about finding yourseld and breaking away from society's expectations to experiment, learn to love and be loved for who you really are, not how others perceive you.

Christmas movies 2021: HALLMARK UPDATEHallmark's countdown to the Countdown to Christmas movie season clock started over the weekend, ladies! US Peas can download the official countdown clock app for Apple and Android. iOS now also has a Countdown to Christmas widget to keep up with the Hallmark Christmas movies schedule. Per the clock, the first Hallmark Christmas movie will air on Saturday October 23rd this year! The first movie from the 2021 Christmas lineup to have been confirmed and officially revealed by Hallmark is A CHRISTMAS TREASURE featuring singer Jordin Sparks and Hallmark movie alum Michael Xavier. A Christmas Treasure tells the tale of Lou (Sparks) who opens a 100-year-old family time capsure which holds her grandfather's old journal. This discovery prompts her to rethink her current life and wonder whether to leave the small town of Pine Grove where she's taking over her family's local newspaper business to further her writing career in New York City. Meanwhile, Kyle (Xavier), a chef lands in Pine Grove with doubts about the future of his own. When Lou and Kyle meet, they find someone to share their questions and wonder about what's to come, which decisions to make as they form a connection and find the magic of the Christmas season together.

Hallmark starting before Halloween always makes me start putting up Christmas stuff earlier and earlier lol. Also, Jordin will have multiple songs in the film! Excited for that. I have quite a few pieces from the Department 56 Nightmare Before Christmas set I found on Facebook for super cheap a couple years ago and it's almost time to start setting that up. The best thing about NBC is it transcends holidays. I throw a wreath on it after Halloween and suddenly it's ready for Christmas

I made good on a vow I made on another thread to get rid of the DD stuff I haven’t used in ages. Apparently I have a problem with numbers. I have a 12x12 Iris box full and more to store.
