Just your portion only, not including alcoholic drinks, tax and tip, what is the most expensive meal you have had?
I don’t think I’ve ever gone over $75. I know I have gotten a steak that was over $50, plus salad and sides. Maybe a soda. I’ve had King Crab legs too, but it was not over $75.

I think Alinea in Chicago. I do not now recall how much it cost (it was probably 12 years ago), but I do recall being a little surprised, after eating at a lot of very pricey NYC restaurants while I lived there, that it was more expensive. I have had French Laundry reservations twice but had to cancel both times .

18 years ago DH & I went out for Valentine's day.
VERY nice restaurant and VERY good food.
We had surf & turf and everything was ala cart (sp?)
Bill before tip was $250.
We've never done it again.

Well Gavin Newsom’s most expensive was a dinner at French Laundry — $280 million! 😂
I wish I could say French Laundry for myself - but I’ve never been there. I’ve done Chez Panisse and Sons and Daughters in SF - Sons and Daughters it was like $200/ person for the tasting menu plus wine pairing at like $100pp

We just paid about £800 last week for a meal for four, so about £200 each. Special birthday and we were treated so it tasted even batter 😊

A few years ago, my son treated me and my 2 dd to Wolfgang puck. It was inside of a Detroit Casino, after we had flown in, on our way further north. Everyone’s meal was over $100. The food was superior.

Pre-COVID we would regularly spend $240 for three of us at our favourite restaurant, so $80 per head. Mind you, we usually use restaurant gift cards we get for Christmas and our birthdays, so we don't often have to fork out the money ourselves.
The most expensive meal was probably at that same restaurant, when they had a special event for their 10th birthday. It was $300 for the two of us, all you could eat and drink. Bloody good value. I just about drank my share in mocktails alone, not to mention the food.

In the last year it would be Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad where we had their $99 four course tasting menu for our anniversary. Adding a couple specials and the wine pairing brought the meal to around $400 for the two of us.
I would love to take DH to Addison in Del Mar for his birthday next year. The 5 course tasting menu is $190 per person and the 10 course is $280. The wine pairing is on top of that.

Imma plead the 5th on that one. DH is a wine connoisseur and a couple of bottles will drive the bill up pretty quickly.
But it’s not a regular thing. We’re mostly cheapskates and will split an entree a lot of the time at our regular restaurants.
ETA: I didn’t read the part about not including alcoholic beverages. Hm. Probably our meals at Primo in Rockland, ME. James beard award winning chef. Best food I’ve eaten. Maybe $100/pp for the food? We don’t drink much there because we have to drive home - no Uber.
Christmas Eve prix fixe at Artisans here in Houston might have been more, but overpriced IMO.

Probably the first real date that my late husband and I went on in August 2007. We went to The Lobster Pound in Ogunquit Maine and had large lobsters, steamers, potatoes and corn. Dessert was Maine blueberry pie. So delicious and if I recall correctly he pulled at least 4 $100 bills out of his wallet to pay for it. A sweet memory.

Unless it is free, I am hesitant to go to a really expensive restaurant because I don’t eat a lot and feel like it would be a waste! 😣 I don’t even eat my share at really expensive buffets. You all have to been to some really nice places!! The food must have been awesome!

Hmm. I don't know which was the most expensive meal. But there are a couple that I know we had that were pricey.
Garde Manger in Montreal was probably the most expensive but we also had a bunch of alcohol. The Mansion in Dallas and Edge in Park City were also pretty pricey.

I think The Herbfarm - it was $250/person before wine pairing and tip. And worth every penny.

The most I personally ever spent was at a French restaurant in Houston. I slipped in beforehand and pre-ordered, pre-paid to do something nice for my boyfriend. He took it six ways to Sunday the wrong way. (Never wonder why I didn't marry the guy.) That would have been about 1982... and it was a whopping $100 range --- a true extravagance from me at the time. I have been invited to dinners that were far more expensive since, though. (But not by him! )

About 5 years ago for our 20th wedding anniversary we went to a local steakhouse that was housed in an old bank; stunning decor and so creative. We were warned how expensive it was beforehand. It was $300 per person. The food was awesome but I’ve had meals just as good for a lot cheaper.

I don't recall what things cost individually. Friends were celebrating their anniversary about 5 years ago and invited us to join them at Topolobampo in Chicago. It was several courses with wine. Our bill for the two of us was around $500. I about fell over. Yes, it was delicious and an experience to remember. Would I do it again? Negative.

I’m a cheap date. I don’t think we’ve eaten anywhere more than about 75-100 per person. DH and I aren’t very fancy people. Hahaha!

I have absolutely no idea. But I don't eat some of the more typically expensive entree items so that means even if I have an appetizer, drink, & dessert (which is very rare, since typically that's far more food than I can comfortably eat in one sitting) I still don't rack up exceedingly expensive meals.

We took our daughter to Daniel Boulud in NYC for her 16th birthday. One of her courses was risotto, with the option of shaved black truffles for an additional $150. Well, she loves truffles so she went for it! I don’t remember what the individual meals cost but our total was about $1500 (not including tip) for the three of us 😳 but totally worth it.

A few years ago I went with a girlfriend to a molecular gastronomy restaurant in NYC with a 9 course tasting menu that I think was $400 pp (I know our total bill was over $1k for the two of us and we only had one cocktail each). I didn’t choose it and didn’t pay for it. I helped her with a legal matter pro bono that netted her a mid-six figure result and she took me to NYC as a thank you. It was not my jam, and I don’t even remember the name of the place.
For meals I actually paid for, DH and I spent about $300 at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant in reunion tower (the ball in the Dallas skyline). That included a few cocktails and was amazing.

Husband And I have dined at Aureole with the tasting menu and wine menu running about $175 pp. Le Cirque we definitely payed $400 for 2 people. I’m lucky to have an amazing restaurant in our town doing progressive tasting menus that are about $150 per person not including drinks.
Gosh I miss in person dining. 😔

We paid $150 per adult and $50 per child (3-9) for a character buffet on Thanksgiving, in the ballroom at The Disneyland Hotel. We were seated almost 3 hours after our reservation time and the nut free children's buffet had something cross contaminated on it, so we took about 5 bites of our food before we had to leave with our sick tree nut allergy DD. Worst $500 I've ever spent.

For our anniversary a few years ago we had a 4 or 5 course meal at a local restaurant. I think it was around $125 a person, but it also included wine with most courses. It was sooooo good, but sadly they closed down a few months later because the owners/chef was burned out.
Technically we just spent $120 per person for a dinner on our vacation in Colorado, but that also included horse riding to and from the lodge where we ate a really good dinner.

That I've paid for? I'm guessing $150-200 but I'm not certain, since I never paid attention to the bill pre-alcohol. Corporate dinners - definitely more but not sure how much.

Dinner for 2 at Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Resort! Part of it was paid by a family friend because I planned his grandkids' trip but we went in without worrying about the price of anything. Got drinks, dinner, apps, more drinks, and dessert. At the end of the night our bill was south of $200 before tip and worth every bit.
