In case you haven’t noticed, we have a bigger than usual mess at the Southern Border.
I personally feel we as a country have every right to have closed borders for the simple reason we can’t take in everyone that comes knocking at our door. I also welcome those who come to our country legally.
At some bridge in Texas there are several thousand folks who originally left Haiti after the big earthquake several years ago, went to South America worked there until the jobs dried up and decided to head north to the United States. From what I understand there are some seeking asylum, which is legal, and a bunch that are trying to enter illegally.
The Biden Administration has decided to fly a large group of these individuals to their home country Haiti. Which they are currently doing.
This photo popped up on Twitter that has people upset. Keeping in mind we have mounted police units all across the United States that are used for crowd control and it makes sense to have Border Patrol Agents on horseback along the southern border. We don’t the circumstances that led to this happening. Keeping that in mind what do you all think about this photo?

I'm not opposed to mounted police. But, I think like our regular police departments, there are border patrol officers who are too aggressive and violent. And too many that stand by silently. Our police departments need major changes, restructuring and training. Border patrol, ATF, ICE etc probably do as well. And the situation in Del Rio with Haitian migrants only illustrates the need for immigration reform. I think we need to send significantly more humanitarian aid to Central American and Caribbean countries. If we can dramatically improve conditions there, maybe fewer will try migrating to the US. eta - Its hard to tell from the picture, but there are videos that look like the agents are using the rope in their hands on people. So how do you think the Border Patrol Agents should stop these folks from entering the country or going farther into the country then they currently are?
Do you think they should just stand around and do nothing?
This is a situation where you are damed if you do and damed if you don’t with a lot of critics that offer no workable solutions.
As far as giving money to countries south of the border in aid, that has been done but the problem is in some cases one is dealing with a corrupt government.

One of the news stations sent reporters to Central American to interview folks on what is making folks head for our Southern Border.
I watched part of an interview and a man was explaining people were leaving because of the drought that has gripped that part of the country and how it has affected the growing of food and he showed a corn cob and hoe the lack of water made corn worthless. So according to this guy it’s one of the reasons people are heading north.
The folks from Haiti came because all the jobs they had since leaving Haiti years before had dried up. They feel they can go back to Haiti because there is nothing there.
Today the Envoy to Haiti resigned because of the “inhuman” treatment by sending plane loads of Haitians back to Haiti.
Yesterday it was reported, from an anonymous US official, that US Officials were letting some Haitians into the country. I thought “what the heck”. There were not many details that I saw so I just put it aside until this popped up.
So to add to all the problems already at the border and if any of this is true the question becomes are the US Custom and Border Agents deliberately making what is happening at the border worse to score political points?

The top google searches for the border patrol incident are Fox reporting that the migrants were not whipped, exactly what the previous posted said. And the reason why I questioned her source of news. She also referred to the President and Vice President as pseudo. And plenty of left wingers are questioning and criticizing President Biden for returning migrants to Haiti. Other migrants are seeking asylum, no mystery there. Left wingers are also questioning who gets to stay and seek asylum. I would disagree that the administration is a shit show, but I would acknowledge (and many other left wingers recognize) that there are many challenges facing the president and he could have handled some of them better. But, he has taken responsibility and taken steps to change things and do better next time. Without a doubt, I would rather have President Biden in charge than the previous incompetent, dangerous, narcissistic stupid egomaniac who surrounded himself with equally incompetent people. |
