We purchased our home 33 years ago. I had just finished my first year of teaching and made about zero and a half dollars. Over the years, we upgraded almost every inch of the house. Yesterday, I saw a house in an area we really like and I called our realtor that we just met last week as we considered moving. Saw the house at three pm, put in a bid at four and by five-thirty I had a new scrapbook room. Yikes. I am going back to carpet instead of the bamboo floors I love, but the rest of the room is awesome. I need to measure it, but it is a lot larger than my 10 x 11 room. The closet is also a walk-in closet. The other guest rooms weren't very large and the closets weren't walk in. I have room in another part of the house for my three ladder shelves of albums and probably can buy another few Kallaxes. I have five already, but if you have room, why not? I have ordered 50 (14" x 14") boxes from Amazon for packing my paper. The rest of the house will get packed in liquor and apple boxes! I am putting off listing my house for a few weeks so I have a good two or three weeks to pack up my house before it shows.
My favorite part of the house is the back yard. It is a giant gulley of trees coming down from NORAD. I'm excited, but still have to wait for the inspection before I pack anything.

How exciting for you. Will you be sentimental about leaving your house? My very first house, I went to every single room, including the backyard and said good-bye to it. LOL. I was there 8 years. The 2nd house, not so much.

The 2nd house, not so much. Last week after the realtor left, I needed a moment. We have upgraded almost every inch of this house. The realtors were giddy with the shape of the house. We also added on a fifth bedroom and a 12 x 24' Trex deck looking out onto Pikes Peak. The new house will need some upgrades, so that part stinks, but oh, the back yard. I will have moments. I'll also be sad to leave our neighbors. Some have been here just as long as we have. Our kids grew up together. Thankfully I can drive about 5 minutes and see people whenever I want.

Congratulations! As someone who recently moved, I do not envy the packing of the scrapbooking stuff, but it will be so worth it when you’re in your new place!

How exciting! Things are moving quickly in our housing market in the PNW - maybe in your market too? My friend had to move for a job and got an offer over-asking a day after the place listed. It made for a very frantic process. But it sounds like you know what you're in for and you're ready. Good luck!

In busy markets in Colorado, they take pictures on Wednesday, list the house on MLS (multiple listing sites) on Thursday, take tours Friday through Sunday and Sunday night you pick the best offer. (You can list it longer.) My agent said my house will go that weekend for more than we are asking. The house we bought had 6 offers. One was $100,000 over list price, but the money was as solid as ours. We are selling ours and will have 50% down.

I lived on Old Fountain Blvd in the early 00's. Loved every moment and left that house behind, a long time ago. But, in alot of ways, that house is still home! Every time I go back to COS I am amazed at the way Powers to the east has grown!
Doesn't mean I don't love an enjoy our homes since then, but. That one was special.
Congratulations!!

I live here and think the growth from Powers east is out of control. If you go north, Castle Rock is almost Denver.

Congratulations! For moving boxes, watch Facebook Marketplace. With so many military in the area, you should be able to find plenty of boxes for cheap or even free. And buy real packing paper—don’t use newspaper. You will never get the ink off of everything.
Good luck with your new adventure.

The 2nd house, not so much. This is something we have trouble with. We've discussed moving, but we were married in the yard of this home, and it's so hard to walk away from that.

Yesterday Amazon delivered 50 14" x 14" boxes. My husband asked why and I told him my paper does not go in random boxes. I figure if I place the paper horizontally in the box up to the top I can stack them pretty high.

Wednesday DH and I went to look at a new house down the street from ours.. a new neighborhood. Found a house which we both loved. Master bed on the main floor and full basement and a craft room on the main level. Price is high but we have tons of equity. We thought it would work out.. but nooooooo, by the time we figured out comps and all that, the payment was over double what we are currently paying. So yeah no new house.

When you say NORAD, do you mean THE NORAD as in Aerospace Defense?
Congrats on the new house, enjoy the journey that is packing and moving!
